all bleached of its colour and smaller, surprising, finding new gravel and gritting my teeth. Sister! The battlements! Covered in clay! Towing the horse cart back up the mountain we might find religion, a temple, a boulder to worship or roll around parodying Sisyphus, his weakness, muscles and failure falling away. I don’t fucking want to be here!

I want to be out west with all of the carvings, something unknowable carried in wires, over the plains and into the winter and suddenly, whistling, bombs by the dozens. Remember the fires and look to the sky, the birds are circling and one of them, backwards, is bringing me home.
