This is one of the places that you shouldn't miss out when you have your trip to Cebu!
Just right next to the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño is the famous Magellan's Cross.
The original cross was made of tingalo wood, however, it was covered with another wooden case to protect the original cross from being chipped by tourists to serve as souvenirs.

“I LOVE CEBU”
Good Day Scoopers! here is a simple chorus demonstration of the winner of the 34th Cebu Popular Music Festival, I Love Cebu.
This song is one of Cebu’s pride and is used to promote the tourism of Cebu as well. This also has its distinct dance steps and is performed by festival contingents after a festival competition as a grand finale. See:  Sinulog sa Barangay 2019 Grand finale - I LOVE CEBU
Going back, for everything to be easier, I transposed the song to the key of C. It has a lower register than of the original but it is good especially for beginners.
Here attached is the full transposed chords I used: I LOVE CEBU chords
Have fun and enjoy playing!

This video shows an example of a situation whenever a Cebuano speaker and a Tagalog speaker have a conversation. There are lots of words in Visayan language that have the same spelling but have different meaning in Tagalog. Watch the video and see the difference of langgam in Bisaya and Tagalog.
________________________________________________________________
Bisaya: langgam - bird
Tagalog:  langgam - ant
Want to know more Visayan words that totally have different meaning in Tagalog?

TODAY’S FEATURED ARTWORK:  Sinulog by Lee Marvin Torbiso “This artwork was inspired by one of the famous phenomenon of the Philippines, Sinulog. This is the most beloved festivals of Cebu, it is what makes Cebu known as Cebu. Colours shown everywhere inspired me to draw out this event to capture the beauty of the festival as if I was doing photography with a pen. It has also been a great study for me to understand the culture of the people and how to proportion a scene in art”. ----- Post by Lee Marvin Torbiso

CEBUNIQUE
So GUESS WHAT.
Apparently, Thirsty, a popular drink product in Cebu, and Dimsum Break, a popular fast food chain in Cebu, don’t exist in Manila! As per my friend who used to live there and is now studying there.
Seriously! Can you believe that? I don’t think my life would be the same without a tasty Thirsty drink or a delicious Dimsum dish.
Guess that’s another Cebunique quirk!

CEBUANO QUIRKS: LANGUAGE Edition
When I encountered Cebuano language during my first month in Cebu, I really find it interesting with its idiosyncratic vocabulary. Every word sounds weird to me at first but I got used to it after staying for few more months. I learned how to speak their language as well and got exposed to their remarkable expressions that they use in casual conversations.  Fascinatingly, I discovered that some of their expressions can also be used in different ways with different meanings even without changing the words. Here are the Cebuanos’ top five most common expressions.
1. “Ambot”
As from what I have observed, the precise meaning of “ambot” depends on how the person delivers the expression. But basically, the person who’s saying this is either confused, frustrated, or might have lost his patience with the person he’s talking with. For an instance, if you keep on asking the same questions to a Cebuano, he would probably say, “Ambot nimo uy!” in an exasperated tone.
2. “Kuan”
Cebuanos call it as a universal word for just about anything. It can be used as a noun, adjective, or a verb. It can actually be used numerous times in a Cebuano sentence and still creates a sensible thought. Here's an example,
"Ang kuan didto sa kuan ba, murag kuan kaayo ang kuan".
3. “Chuya/Chuy”
Chuya or Chuy/Choy is often used when Cebuanos notice something that is amusing, unique, or beautiful. Usually, they'll say "Chuya uy!" or "Chuy lagi na." It means they appreciate or amused by something.
4. “Buang”
This word is commonly used as an adjective to describe something or someone who does something ridiculous or silly. Usually, they call someone buang if that person did something or just planning to do something crazy or stupid because buang literally means "crazy" or "insane".
"Hoy, na-buang na ka?" (Hey, are you insane?)
5. “Bitaw”
Bitaw is used as an intensifier over a statement. The word alone may also serves as a response of agreeing to something that has been stated. For example, someone is telling you that the traffic in the city is heavy, if you agree, you could just simply say “bitaw”.
Learning Cebuano language may not be difficult, however, using the expressions properly may take some time to getting used with.

CEBUANO QUIRKS: FOOD Edition
For today’s edition, we’re going to talk about none other than FOOD! Yes, tasty, delicious and mouth-watering Cebuano FOOD.
And no, this isn’t your usual gastronomy blog post. We’re not just going to delve in on the what’s and where’s. For this edition, we’re delving in on the why’s and how’s of eating these immensely popular and unique Cebuano FOOD. Disclaimer! Not everyone finds some of these delicacies appealing to eat. However, it would be wrong to say they aren’t delicious to eat.
Moving on!
Puso
Tumblr media
Source: https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&source=imgres&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwi_uuy27OHjAhWa7GEKHRkyCu8QjRx6BAgBEAU&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwelovecebu.com%2Fpuso-cebus-hanging-rice%2F&psig=AOvVaw3JF9a2a3DVvoqF--TL-8WL&ust=1564754909551087
The all-famous and Cebu-unique FOOD, with cooked rice encased in woven palm leaves, puso or hanging rice.
For the price of 10 pesos or less (definitely less), puso is a cheap source of rice to which plenty of us Cebuanos prefer to buy to eat during events and parties. The small but affordable FOOD serves as a more efficient and cheaper substitute to freshly cooked rice.
And, like all Filipinos, we never eat meals without rice. So, to fully satisfy your stomach’s needs, we’re here to gladly tell you that puso actually goes really well with plenty other FOOD. Cebuano FOOD, to be exact.
One of which is:
Lechon Baboy
Tumblr media
Source: https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&source=images&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwiN6MS57eHjAhWU-2EKHdVsAO0QjRx6BAgBEAU&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.mamasguiderecipes.com%2F2018%2F02%2F10%2Fsecret-cebu-lechon-recipe%2F&psig=AOvVaw3naKvlpGq7yM_0gsv5-Ugm&ust=1564755125059463
Another widely-popular and incredibly mouth-watering FOOD – lechon! Cebuano-made lechon baboy, specifically.
It is no secret that Cebuano lechon baboy is one, if not the, best lechon in all of the Philippines. It is so good that numerous Filipinos of other ethnicities order from Cebu and ship them to their provinces!
As you eat lechon baboy along with puso, you’ll be in for 100% satisfaction. The blandness of the rice in puso completely complements the salty taste of pork skin or the soy sauce that accompanies the meat of the FOOD. Oh, and don’t ever miss the skin! The crunchiness and taste of a freshly cooked lechon baboy’s skin is haven to one’s taste buds. All in all, the combination will give you the dinner of a lifetime.
Another Cebuano FOOD that will surely go well with puso, is:
Pungko-pungko
Tumblr media
Source: https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&source=imgres&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwjh1fqH7uHjAhUEfXAKHXCuACMQjRx6BAgBEAU&url=https%3A%2F%2Fsteemit.com%2Fdailyfoodphotography%2F%40alvibokz15%2Fstreet-food-pungko-pungko&psig=AOvVaw227j99BuTM4m3NyFVFkS4P&ust=1564755306172074
None other than one of the famous street food source and student favorite lunch venue, pungko-pungko!
Cheap, delicious, basically everywhere – pungko-pungko will definitely satisfy the adventurer in you, especially if you’re a first timer. Rather than food, pungko-pungko are actually small stalls located almost everywhere urban, most especially near schools. They usually sell cheap, fried food that countless Cebuanos are in love with. But what most first timers don’t know is that the food served in these small stalls, other than puso, is the best kinds of FOOD.
Such as:
Ngohiong
Tumblr media
Source: https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&source=imgres&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwjik_S57uHjAhWCHHAKHWpECAQQjRx6BAgBEAU&url=https%3A%2F%2Fgutomna.com%2Fcebus-lumpia-ngohiong-ngoyong-recipe%2F&psig=AOvVaw2C4nt13xpHYTEJTjv4hO31&ust=1564755454724485
Ngohiong! To some, these can be called ‘Chinese Ngohiong’ but cheaper. With its signature sauce, ngohiong will surely satisfy your tastes with the help of puso.
Ginabot
Tumblr media
Source: https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&source=imgres&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwiJ_IDb7uHjAhWB62EKHc0eBwkQjRx6BAgBEAU&url=https%3A%2F%2Fsteemit.com%2Fworldsdailyfood%2F%40steemitkyle%2Fginabot-of-cebu&psig=AOvVaw3CrDHpAklXiy4dT8n8i-_A&ust=1564755514232763
Ginabot! This tasty-looking, fried food is a whole Cebuano FOOD all on its own. It’s basically the chicharon bulaklak of Cebu but, you know, tastier, way more delicious and cheaper. Don’t miss this fried FOOD which you can commonly find in your nearest pungko-pungko. Just like every other FOOD, it tastes best in the company of rice or, in this case, puso!
Lumpia
Tumblr media
Source: https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&source=imgres&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwi5hdb-7uHjAhWbc3AKHWniAaMQjRx6BAgBEAU&url=https%3A%2F%2Frasamalaysia.com%2Flumpia-filipino-spring-rolls-recipe%2F&psig=AOvVaw07_liluj9YSvsNXNwWmLg-&ust=1564755598945215
Lumpia! Filipino-version of a spring roll, lumpia with its sweet and sour sauce paired with puso will make you drool and satisfied at the same time.
And, of course, the world-famous:
Fried Chicken
Tumblr media
Source: https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&source=imgres&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwib5Y2w7-HjAhWMOnAKHYMtAwIQjRx6BAgBEAU&url=https%3A%2F%2Fpinchofyum.com%2Ffilipino-fried-chicken&psig=AOvVaw0Tvhu2aLMVv1SiWsbom603&ust=1564755702667689
Fried chicken is so common but delicious delicacy that Cebuanos still love to eat it in a meal. With the cheapened version of this FOOD available in pungko-pungko’s, it is all the more reason to grab a seat down and get yourself a delicious fried chicken.
These are just some of the delicious Cebuano FOOD available in a pungko-pungko. To find out more, a trip or visit to one these stalls is a must! Don’t worry, a budget of less than 50 pesos is already enough so your stomach won’t be the only thing satisfied after the visit, but also the inner frugal you. It’s a win-win, don’t you think so?
Moving on, this particular Cebuano FOOD is considered as a league on its own and even exotic by some. This FOOD is none other than:
Tuslob Buwa
Tumblr media
Source: https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&source=imgres&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwi2m9zV7-HjAhVLM94KHdk3CYwQjRx6BAgBEAU&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.atlasobscura.com%2Ffoods%2Ftuslob-buwa&psig=AOvVaw0rVi41cBNPOF48MEVP4n8n&ust=1564755781449081
The boiling hot, delicious mess of a dish, tuslob buwa.   As unappealing as it looks, tuslob buwa is a dish worth enjoying but not on a daily basis. With puso, your experience with this FOOD will be nothing but the best! Hot, fresh and delicious, tuslob buwa will not leave you wanting.
With all these FOOD, you can further enjoy your Cebu experience whether as a first-timer or not. Just like all Filipino FOOD, Cebuano FOOD will leave you drooling and wanting for more. Don’t forget to list these FOOD on your bucket list! It’s all surely worth it! ----------- Article by Chelsea Gonzales
