People that I want to see more of / people that I think are under-rated: Anna Popplewell
“Some people manage to make that transition from child actor to adult actor seamlessly. But I felt that if I spent my whole life on a film set without taking a few years to do something else, all I would ever know about was film sets.”

disclaimer: i have only watched the narnia movies, i have not read any of the books. if there is information from the books that relates to any of this i would love to hear it. this post was inspired by @fallingskiesandrisingseas and their character posts of the pevensies
its so horrible thinking about how the pevensies came back to england after basically living another life.
they basically lived a lifetime. they had friends, possibly enemies, lovers maybe, they had people they cared for and who cared for them, they grew up.
and to have all that taken away when they come home, years and years of building a life in narnia gone
sure they have their memories, but not their bodies, friends, kingdom. theres no way they could’ve acclimated back in england after being in narnia for decades. all the costoms they learned, the languages, the repect and adoration they created. gone
i know narnia and beyond is some religious allegory for heaven/an afterlife, but to people who aren’t religious/grew up being taught it, it was devastating to watch. theres no way they would’ve come back home of their own free will.
i mean they grew up, they matured. they knew war and death, love and respect. i mean Lucy became a woman a leader a queen, she had to be taken back to a body that is way to young to know most of that stuff.
i mean how would they even know how to act anymore, act not like nobles, like the commoners they are in england. its been YEARS, theres no way they remember every detail from their past lives. they wouldn’t even need school really, maybe some stuff but would they even want to pay attention. theyre fully mature adults trapped in a childs body.
and how would their kingdom fair when they left without any warning. we see later that it fell to history, but before that happened. their leaders are gone, their protectors, their friends, family, just gone forever. im sure there were people that were trusted to take over, but thats still a big change when losing the kings and queens of narnia
i truly believe they shouldve been able to live in narnia forever. the other movies should’ve been different characters or something else. i love these movies, i just wish they hadn’t ended like that

2021 redraw of this 2016 piece.
One of my first otps from literature as a small child was Shasta and Aravis from The Horse and His Boy by C.S. Lewis.
I LOVED Aravis when I was a kid. I loved that she was such a strong and vocal girl in a country where girls were taught that they should be silent. I loved that Shasta and Aravis fought throughout the whole book, yet the times they spent apart they felt less grounded without the other to back them up.

ya know…what if Susan’s decision to believe Narnia was all a game was just her COPING MECHANISM to help her deal with and process all of the unpleasant emotions she felt after leaving the place…has anyone considered THAT???

Will never understand why the Pevensie’s had to leave Narnia so soon after they helped Prince Caspian reclaim the Telmarine throne from his uncle and help the Narnians retain their freedom from the Telmarines after winning the revolution.
Like, I understand that in the moment Telmar and Narnia each had their “fit” ruler in Caspian, but it’s not like the Pevensie’s could’ve helped him settle into the role, you know? Granted, he did have his prior knowledge of Narnia thanks to his Professor, Aslan, Trumpkin, Trufflehunter, and the Centaurs to help him adjust to his responsibility…and also there is the fact that 1300 years have passed..but I mean…come on!
The Pevensie could easily stayed a few more months to help/mentor their new friend on how to lead, protect, and respect the Narnians and their traditions in the best way possible before they left like…why so soon, Aslan? Why couldn’t they stay a little bit longer? Huh? I’m sure their presence and wisdom wouldn’t have diminished Caspian’s role as King at all nor do think it would have hurt his growth as a person either rather it probably would’ve done the opposite. Maybe it would’ve made him more assured/confident in himself three years later??? Ya know!
Plus, the Narnians probably would’ve like it too! Having their Kings and Queens back to help set up the new foundations for the themselves as they begin new lives alongside the Telmarines.
But no…Aslan had other plans and we’re just supposed to be okay with it. *sighs heavily to the Pevensie’s, especially to Peter and Susan* I’m so sorry, you guys.

The difference between the Narnia fandom and other fandoms
I just spent a little time going through all of my fandoms posts in social media and i just realized something which is actually really ironic.
I noticed that there is a specific area in which narnia fans stand out in comparison to fans of other fandoms.
Books such as the Divergent trilogy, the Hunger games trilogy, the Maze Runner, City of Bones and even Harry Potter are known for their saddening deaths of beloved fictional characters. All over the internet you can find posts where people get upset about Sirius Black’s death or about Finnicks and Prim Everdeen’s death (they also really terrify me) for example. People are complaining that their favourite characters in books always face a tragic end but this is exactly the point where Narnia fans react so differently:
In terms of characters that die throughout the book, the chronicles of narnia definitely takes the lead. The characters from all the seven books die except for only one person, Susan Pevensie. Some characters have died of old age while others face a tragic death. Peter, Edmund, Lucy, Jill and Eustace were young when they died in a train wreck. Outsiders may think that this is the controverse spot of our fandom but in truth we are not frustrated about everyone dying in the series.
We are only sad when we talk about Susan’s fate in the Chronicles of Narnia. It sounds really ironic but we are literally sad and terrified that Susan Pevensie got to live because now she is left alone by herself, living without her family. This is what truly makes everyone of the narnian fandom frustrated. We all wish that Susan would have died alongside her siblings but instead she had to cope with losing her whole family.
The Chronicles of Narnia is a series that doesn’t associate death with a saddening event. The last book shows us that living can be worse than being dead.

ya know….for as underwhelming as the movie adaptation was for the voyage of the dawn treader book…a small part of me has always secretly wished that Peter and Susan came back to Narnia again and joined their siblings Edmund and Lucy on the voyage to the Lone Islands with their cousin Eustace and King Caspian just so they could mess the accuracy of the movie up even further and create a completely separate storyline where in the end all the Pevensies and Eustace get to stay in Narnia forever, Susan and Caspian would get married, and they’d all live happily ever after….or maybe not…given what happens in the silver chair…but that’s just my take and idk if any one else feels the same…?

Though I do agree that peter acts totally out of line in this scene, but has anyone ever thought about just how dark of place he was in up until then???
Like, I want to say the raid on the telmarine castle was executed not only out of surprise but also out of revenge because if you put yourself in Peter’s shoes for moment, it’s as clear as the norther sky (excuse the pun, but…) that this kid is not in the right frame of mind.
Because 1) he’s angry at the Telmarines and their stupid catapults for destroying HIS familie’s home and castle Cair Paravel 1300 years ago; 2) he feels guilty for not being their to protect and defend his people and he narnians from their attack; and 3) he feels most definitely responsible for all the lives lost that night.
Now if takes these all together you get Peter and his vengeful desire to want to slaughter Miraz and as many Telmarines as he can before the night is up. Like…how messed up is that? Granted I know this is a human way to react to an injustice but still…if I were his siblings I’d be very concerned about him.
I’m watching the chronicles of narnia: prince caspian and damn I ALWAYS get terribly pissed at peter during the attack to the telmarines castle scene because EVERYONE TOLD HIM that was not a good idea and still he insists on pulling it off and ends up getting almost all the narnians killed.
he should’ve listened to caspian he’s been living there way longer than him and knows the telmarine’s ways. but no, he and his stupid pride. I just cannot stand peter pevensie 😠
