Tropical non-alcoholic cocktail of good King Moggle Mog XII
Tumblr media
This one was fun! And a lot of work. It was also exactly what I needed after three days of being sick, kupo.
I don't have a pineapple corer that would have made this a million times easier. I was planning on doing three pineapple cups but gave up after two because my hand hurt from the cutting and scraping, kupo. Which was perfectly fine with me because the kids got their pineapple cups and I got a glass where I could see everything.
As usual I had to guess at proportions, and in this case, ingredients. Does the original drink include pineapple juice or just the pineapple cup? No idea, kupo. And because of my hacking and slashing technique I ended up with pineapple chunks that included the core and I wasn't about to spend my evening separating the two. So I just chucked the chunks into the blender, strained out the juice, and added it to everything else in a pitcher.
The fruit cocktail was the most baffling part of this recipe. It's entirely possible that the original recipe called for fruit punch or some other kind of mixed fruit drink only available in Japan. Were I to do this again, I would leave it out altogether because it didn't add much to the drink and it's not like you can suck up the fruit chunks even with a boba straw, kupo.
And the boba... well, I'd definitely do it differently next time. The brand that I used said you can make it ahead of time and store it in the fridge. I did that, added a little honey to keep things from clumping, and put it in the fridge overnight. The next day I had sad, mealy boba. So... maybe store it in water or make it fresh. Or leave it out, which is probably what I'll do in the future, kupo.
Verdict: It's guava, mango, and pineapple juice. It's yummy, kupo!

Blue Mage
Tumblr media
please enjoy my hack job of editing out my family's calendar and bulletin board.
I've never had blue curacao before and didn't know what to expect -- I've historically been more of a beer/whisky drinker. I was delighted to find that it's orange flavored. Together with the lemon-lime flavored Ramune, this was very refreshing. Perfect for recovering from a long day of work after being out late at the Crystalline Resonance: Final Fantasy Piano Concert.
I made the kid's version with the pictured blue curacao syrup and mine with the liqueur.
Verdict: Kid and parent approved!
Source: Eorzea Cafe Akihabara
Difficulty: Easy | Yield: 1 serving
Ingredients:
Two pumps blue curacao syrup (0.5 oz/14 ml), or more to taste OR 1 shot blue curacao liqueur
1/2 bottle Ramune original flavor (can substitute any lemon-lime soda)
Soda water
Instructions:
In a lowball with ice, add blue curacao syrup.
Add Ramune.
Top with soda water

I'm building my stash
Tumblr media
I'll probably have another drink or two posted this weekend. I need to get some flavored syrups and some more booze.
As an aside, I took the kids to a local Asian market to see what I could find for this project. The teenager wanted to find some natto because, quote, "it looks good." We had a natto tasting and my friends let me tell you it is FOUL. My tongue wanted to recoil into my esophagus. Maybe, maybe it would be more palatable had the teenager not put the entire packet of Japanese mustard in there, but I doubt it. The texture is just.......... NO.
Tumblr media
None of us liked it. We're chalking it up to An Experience and tossing the rest.
We had a few other misses (shrimp crackers, banana Pocky) one definite win (big jar of kimchi because the kids go through it like they're afraid the jar will self-destruct if they don't eat it fast enough. We bought a gallon jar once and it lasted a week), and one meh (Japanese brown sugar sponge cake). The little one got some popping candy and must like it because I'm finding empty wrappers all over the house.
I'm much more inclined towards Korean flavors than Japanese, but I'm hoping this project will open some new culinary doors in my house.

Gridanian berry drink
Tumblr media
I'm completely winging it when it comes to measurements. In any event, this tasted good to me. I generally don't love raspberry flavored things but the tartness of the cranberry juice offset that sickly sweetness that I'm not that fond of.
Verdict: Good, though I'm not terribly objective about the Chambord. A slice of lime would go a long way here.

1.5 oz framboise liqueur (two of the small side of the jigger)
4.5 oz cranberry juice (three of the large side of the jigger)

Drink of Bard
Tumblr media
While I wait for more specialty ingredients to arrive I thought I'd bang out this simple drink since I had everything on hand.
Verdict: This is fantastic! For such a simple concept it really was a delightful little treat. I think if you wanted to booze it up you could probably use some RumChata or maybe Bailey's and put it over ice. I'll definitely be making this again and I think I'll garnish with some freshly grated nutmeg next time.

Difficulty: Ridiculously Easy | Yield: 1 serving
Ingredients:
1 cup (250 ml) milk (I used almond milk)
1 tablespoon (15 ml) peach puree
Instructions:
Combine milk and peach puree in a glass.

X-Potion
Tumblr media
This was the first recipe I attempted from the cookbook, the one that started all of this. I didn't take a great photo because I didn't know that I was going to be doing this at the time. I also had some trouble with my food coloring -- all I have is gel coloring and it's.... not fresh. So my purple came out blue. I added pink to try to get it purple-ier and it kind of worked but was way darker than I intended. Oh well. It tasted fantastic.
I've never had Moscato wine before because I'm generally not a sweet wine person. I accidentally ordered a hilariously huge bottle of Barefoot Moscato so now I have to come up with something else to use this in. Please send me ideas if you have any. ^^
Anyway! The citrus is the star of this drink and the lavender is there on the back end. I think if I make this again I won't reduce the syrup quite so much, as it was very thick and it was a challenge to get it mixed with the citrus juices. I think I cooked out more lavender flavor than I would have liked.
I served the lavender citrus juice to one of my kids along with a splash of soda water. She reported that it was very sour -- probably another effect of the highly reduced lavender syrup.
I also tried topping the alcoholic version of this with a bit of soda water and it was a refreshing twist on a white wine spritzer (white wine spritzer... white wine spritzer... white wine spritzer...).
Source: The Ultimate Final Fantasy XIV Online Cookbook
Difficulty: Easy | Yield: 6 servings
Simple Lavender Syrup
1/2 cup (100 g) sugar
1/4 cup (85 g) honey
1 cup (250 ml) water
3 tablespoons dried lavender
Lavender Citrus Juice
1/2 cup (125 ml) lemon juice
1/2 cup (125 ml) lime juice
Simple lavender syrup
1 cup (250 ml) water
1 drop purple food dye, optional
Per X-Potion
1 oz (30 ml) gin
2 ounces (60 ml) Moscato
4 ounces (125 ml) Lavender Citrus Juice
Instructions
In a saucepan over medium-high heat, stir together the sugar, honey, and water. Once the sugar and honey dissolve, add the dried lavender and bring to a simmer. Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for 25 minutes. Remove from the heat and let cool.
In a large pitcher, mix all the ingredients for lavender citrus juice together. Place in the refrigerator overnight to chill before serving.
Combine all the ingredients in a tall glass. Lightly stir together and serve.
If you don't feel like adding alcohol to this, you can enjoy the lavender citrus juice on its own.

Welcome to Drinking Eorzea!
Hello and welcome!
I recently acquired The Ultimate Final Fantasy XIV Online Cookbook and the first thing I made was the X-Potion recipe. I was looking for something fun and challenging to do in the kitchen and it hit all the right notes. I was hooked.
So it looks like I have a new hobby. I want to drink my way through recipes in the official cookbook, the Eorzea Cafe menus, and maybe even come up with some of my own recipes for in-game drinks.
As far as the Eorzea Cafe drinks go, I don't speak Japanese and Google Translate only goes so far, plus I'm sure I'll run into issues sourcing ingredients. Everything I do here should be considered a rough first draft, and I welcome any and all comments, suggestions, and translations!
Skål!
I have Amazon affiliate links in a few places. I already hate myself.
