Ode to a modern Mr. Rochester
He is bristly and weatherbeaten, very salt-of-the-earth looking,like fine leather. There is something animalistic about the hardness of his stare, the hair on his arms,his chest, and the stubble on his jaw. He is older than you. You have alot in common but the age gap leaves enough differences to keep things interesting.
He is very attractive now, but you can tell that he was something to behold in his glory days, and he looks great clean shaven but you prefer him a little scruffy. He is kind and soft and warm, and when he holds you he is gentle and you feel like nothing could ever harm you. His body envelops you like a human shield against all forces of nature.
He is considerate and caring. He understands that you are younger and have a life ahead of you, and you understand that he is older and has lived a life before you. But neither of you resent that, it only adds to the mystery of discovering each other. You are not a bird trapped inside a cage he has made, but he does keep a feeder outside his window, hoping to catch a glimpse of you now and then.You are equals despite your unequal years. But he can also be stubborn, opinionated, hardened and gruff at times. He takes charge of the situation when he has to.
He has lived in a different time. A different world.When he laughs at your jokes you feel this sense of accomplishment at having amused this man who has probably heard every joke in the book. You take pride in having shown something new to a person to which everything is old, he has seen it all.But he makes you feel like he’s never seen anyone like you. When you look into his eyes, they are deep. Like a river that has been worn down by the wisdom that flows through it. Eyes that hold a universe in each iris, pupils like black holes.
He is wise. He will tell you the secret to life and then kiss the life out of you. But you will not die, because you have become one. And in parting you take away a little piece of each other that you keep. Until the next time.
