Some Chick Hicks headcanons that approximately zero people asked for

•I see a lot of “Chick had asshole parents who pushed him really hard to win,” but imagine for a second... relatives who were unsupportive, disapproving, maybe even mocking of his racing dreams.  Like I imagine he grew up in some podunk town in the midwest, and he clearly wasn’t built to be a racecar.  So his whole family were also non-racers, and proud country folk.  When he took off to pursue racing they were all “So what, this town ain’t good enough for you?” and “Look, he thinks he’s fast! loooooll”

•His parents split up when he was in his late teens.  Perhaps his father realized he was LGBT and wanted to move somewhere safer, Chick’s mother supported the decision, and they divorced amicably.  His father still comes home for the holidays and is pretty good friends with Chick’s stepdad.

•Chick, however, is a bit salty about the divorce.  Hicks is actually his mother’s maiden name, which he took after the split.  Partly out of rebellion, partly because he thought it was a cool name.

•Chick is also a chosen name.  His birth name is Charles or something mundane like that.  He will cut anyone who dares call him that.

•He has an older brother and sister, both of whom stuck around their hometown to get normal jobs and raise families.

•He really looked up to the King when he began racing, and they were actually pretty good friends.  Nowhere near the level of Doc and Lightning, but they were decently close.  So Chick spent years working his ass off, putting in nearly double the amount of time the other rookies spent training, yet he was still always coming in second--because the others were built to be racers.  Him, not so much.  He came to resent Strip, and they had a falling out.

•Chick was still playing rough when Cal came onto the scene after Strip’s retirement.  During one race Cal received some minor injuries due to Chick’s methods.  Of all things, this was the event that made Chick think “My god, what have I done?”  He retired the second he saw the terrified look on Cal’s face.

•I may or may not have based Chick’s hometown off of a tiny town in Indiana I lived in for a while... and I may or may not have based his childhood home off the house I lived in and picked out which bedrooms he and his relatives would have... and I may or may not have decided that he often went to this one drug addict filled apartment complex to buy from this one dude who sold... really bomb-ass pies.

I love the new cars like Cruz as much as everyone else but can we PLEASE show some appreciation for Louise Nash????? She’s a trailblazer for female racers in the universe! Stealing a number to race? WHAT A BAD ASS! Remember when Lightning is naming the other racing legends and Cruz jumps in to name Louise? That’s because Louise gave Cruz someone to relate to in a game she didn’t think she could play. Louise shows how important it is to have women role models in major industries for young girls. When Cruz flips over Jackson Storm you know who’s face they voom into? LOUISE. Because she’s rooting for her fellow woman. NOT ONLY ALL THAT BUT she’s an homage to a REAL NASCAR racer named Louise Smith who’s known as the First Lady of racing. Anyways I could go on for hours please send love to this car
