Hi! I'm autistic.

And I wasn't diagnosed until my early 30s - in fact, it's been only about a year since!

Getting diagnosed gave me the chance to take a class these past five weeks in which I got to meet and be around other neurodivergent people my age, which I enjoyed immensely and helped me grow as a person. 

(One truly doesn't realise how important having peers to talk to is until you get to do it; and no, having neurodivergent friends online does not cut in my opinion. Being in a room with eleven other people that exist in your space and are tangible makes a big difference - I've never felt so at home before.)

However, as great as the past few weeks have been, the rest of the time since my diagnosis I've felt a huge amount of shame. Shame I'm trying to overcome! I will never wear my diagnosis as a badge of honour or think of it as something to be proud of. And that's okay. Am I weird and cooky and a little hard to understand sometimes? Yeah! But that's also okay. 

I'm working on accepting myself every day, and every day it gets a little bit easier. 

#this post took a lot of effort but i think it's important to share #if you're also someone struggling with their diagnosis (or the thought you might be neurodivergent)... you're not alone #In other news: i'm done with class and now looking for a job as a data analyst :)
