RIP Len Goodman
Most of you may have heard the news by now. But if not, Len Goodman passed away on Saturday at the age of 78. It's no secret that I have had disagreements with Len over the years when he was judging. However, he seemed to really have a good heart and he was an undeniable ballroom legend. It cannot be denied how much he was respected by everyone in and out of the ballroom. His opinion carried so much weight and a 10 from him was one of the greatest accomplishments on DWTS. Even though he had retired from judging anyway, DWTS, SCD and ballroom as a whole will definitely be missing his presence. May he Rest in Peace.

DWTS 29 week 5: 80s night
Yeah okay I didn’t exist in the 80s so some of this is a bit out of my range. I mean, I know most of these songs and fashion references but not so much the cultural phenomenon.
There were a few dances here that I thought were just good but don’t have much to say about them so I just listed the scores.
Justina’s jazz 8-8-8 = 24
Jesse’s tango started good then he looked like he got in his head and started looking stiff and stumbled here and there. 7-6-6 = 19
Chrishell’s cha cha cha Chrishell is not a bad dancer. She’s decent. But there’s something about her posture, the way she throws out her arms, the way she takes her steps, that just always looks off. It’s something that should be correctable and I don’t know why Gleb hasn’t corrected it yet because it was visible since week 1. Good lord NKOTB look OLD now. Anyone remember Joey McIntyre from season 1? 6-6-7 = 19
Jeannie’s jazz tbh i thought her dance last week was better but it comes down to execution i guess 8-8-8 = 24
Monica’s tango i think finally this was a dance that truly suited Monica. She looked quite good and finally showed some performance quality. Sometimes in hold she looked like she was fighting Val a bit. Great response to the results mishap from last week. ok i wasn’t expecting TWO nines. 9-9-8 = 26
AJ’s waltz started out really good, then right at the start of the chorus he looked like he struggled to lead the turn. Then he eventually recovered and finished well. On a whole, really beautiful and one of the stand out dances of the night. 8-8-8 = 24
Skai’s jazz 8-8-8 = 24
Vernon’s tango 7-7-7 = 21
Kaitlyn’s tango 9-9-9 = 27
Nelly’s samba Oh wow, this was a breakthrough for Nelly. He finally looked like he was felt the performance and enjoyed himself out there. Maybe the song helped. Could have used more hip action. Could this be the start of an upward trajectory for Nelly that sees him lasting longer than we thought? 8-8-8 = 24
Johnny’s contemporary beautiful. Oh wow. It was controlled and not flaily but still conveying the emotion of the song. 10-10-9 = 29
Nev’s quickstep 8-9-9 = 26
Jesse and Vernon were in the bottom 2, and the judges saved Vernon. It was a clear and obvious decision. Jesse seems like a nice guy but just hasn’t shown enough at this stage.

DWTS 29 Week 4 review
Wow this was a pretty good week. Lots of good dances.
Nelly and Daniella paso more shaping, embody the style more. Felt like people chilling at a party rather than a paso. i blame the song 7-7-7 = 21 i would have given a 6
Chrishell and Gleb foxtrot not a foxtrot song. took really long for them to do actual foxtrot steps. i was almost convinced it was a rumba and i heard wrong. 7-8-7 = 22 derek what
Monica and Val samba who the hell is picking her songs? they don’t really suit her at all. that said she handled this dance well. could’ve used a bit more bounce but this was her best dance. 8-8-8 = 24
Anne and Keo paso I NEED THAT JUMPSUIT. best costume of the season?? Anne’s story touched me so much. still kinda wobbly also i don’t get why people keep using this song?? i doesn’t seem to work in the style 7-7-7 = 21
Nev and Jenna rumba nice choreo from Jenna. footwork is a bit steppy but his posture and movement was very good. 8-8-8 = 24
Justina and Sasha salsa i LOVE her energy. feels like this style came at the right time for her because she was thriving and hopefully it will springboard her to really emerge as a final contender. 8-8-8 = 24
Kaitlyn and Artem vwaltz she was elegant and good. good point from the judges that we need to see her do a different type of dance soon. there was like one developpe where she hopped a bit but it’s just a footnote. 9-8-8 = 25
Johnny and Britt jive i think he could have been a bit more bouncy and something about the choreo arrangement vs the cutting of the song was weird for me. 8-8-8 = 24
Jeannie and Brandon tango whew! What a dance! Too bad it didn’t quite stick the landing. I think she would’ve gotten 8s if the mistake had come earlier in the dance and she had time to recover, rather than it being the freshest thing in the judges’ minds. 7-7-7 = 21
Vernon and Peta rumba ooh! He got the hips! And he moved through the moves quite smoothly. Just the styling needed work. 8-7-7= 22
Jesse and Sharna cha cha cha I’m worried about him because I just keep forgetting he’s on the show between weeks. And it feels like there’s something in him that could be a really good dancer but it just doesn’t quite come through. 7-7-7 = 21
Skai and Alan foxtrot Cameron Boyce was on my wishlist of people I wanted to see do this show. This was a gorgeous, mature dance from Skai. I was dubious about the song-style match but it worked. CAi scored a tad too emotionally but you know, I can understand it. 10-9-9 = 28
AJ and Cheryl cha cha cha I feel like DWTS spends so much money just to get the BSBs on the show that in the end they can only afford to use 2 BSB songs out of their extensive discography which is Backstreet’s Back and Larger Than Life. He bumbled through the actual cha cha steps. I would have given a 7 or two 8-8-8 = 24
Nelly, Jeannie, Jesse and Anne are all tied in the bottom which is crazy cos I feel like they all differ in dance quality.
Okay so there was some weird technical error? And they didn’t print Tyra’s cards right? And there was that AWKWARD moment where they basically forgot Chrishell was standing there. But ultimately Monica and Anne were in the bottom 2. They siked Monica, telling her she was safe then rushing her back to possibly end her DWTS run right there. Anne by virtue of being in the bottom last week was eliminated.

DWTS Season 29 week 2 & 3 ramble
This is gonna be more of a summary of my thoughts from two weeks of dancing rather than my usual review. And also since week 4 already passed, I’ll try to be quick and brief.
So, Charles and Carole were eliminated in that order. I don’t think anyone is surprised. Anne was the other person in the bottom two with Carole at the end of week 3, which also isn’t surprising.
I think Nev and Kaitlyn had the highest scores across both weeks. Not surprising as they both have prior dance training and look the best in their dances so far. In the chasing pack we have Jeannie, Justina, and maybe. I think these ladies have the potential to match Nev and Kaitlyn but am not sure how memorable they are. I also think Jeannie should have ended Disney night on top love her partnership with Brandon and they are quickly becoming my favourite pair this season.
Of the rest, AJ could be a dark horse. Not the best dancer right now but keeps improving, shows potential, is a good performer (which is different from being a dancer but helps on a show like this) and has a good proven partner in Cheryl.
I initially included Chrishell in the chasing pack but I doubt Gleb has the choreography to really help her stand out. Like, her waltz was just lots of flourishes without much actual waltz steps.
Meanwhile I’m finding Jesse and Vernon really forgettable. They aren’t bad, I just forget about their dances right after I’m done watching the show.
Nelly is in low-hanging fruit territory. He strikes me as a very reserved person, and it shows in his dance the way you just feel like his lines could extend a bit further.
Am I the only who think they keep giving Monica really weird songs?
I think they should just retire PoTC dances because nothing is ever going to top Riker’s. I supposed the set pieces were too expensive to not reuse.
If only Johnny found his latin hip movement... Also, you mean they made a Mulan film and got a white singer to cover THE song from the movie? Instead of giving an opportunity to a Chinese singer? Smh Disney.
Well, week 4 was a lot better than these 2 weeks and I have a proper review for that

DWTS Season 29 Week 1
OK so despite everything that happened with the show’s production, I’m watching this show, because dance still takes my mind off the various stresses in life. Obviously I hate how Tom and Erin were forced off the show, but I won’t begrudge Tyra of that. I think she’s a decent host. Next, I was pleasantly surprised to see Derek Hough back as a judge. I knew Len was stuck in England and couldn’t return to do the show, and there were rumours Derek would replace him but I didn’t think they were true. Scores are CAI-Derek-Bruno.
I honestly wasn’t expecting there to even be a DWTS season given the pandemic. I’m not entirely convinced it’s a good idea to have one. They have social distancing measures in place but ehhhhh idk. But again I’m glad to have something to distract me from other shit.
Opening was decent enough considering they were clearly avoiding group rehearsals and filming. Interesting that apparently Ray Leeper choreographed it because I only know him as a jazz choreographer.
AJ McLean and Cheryl Burke - Jive I didn’t recognise bald AJ at first. I thought he was a soccer player. Based on this one dance, he has a lot to work on technique-wise. But with Cheryl as a partner he could be a dark horse. Song was not good for jive though. 6-6-6 T18
Chrishell Stause and Gleb Shevchenko - Tango I find Selling Sunset cringe as a show but have nothing personal against Chrishell. She looked very wobbly on her feet. Like a baby deer taking its first steps. I think she has potential, but don’t know if Gleb is the pro do help her reach that. Height and looks wise I see why they were put together. I just don’t trust Gleb as a pro. Wow those scores were harsh. I wasn’t expecting that. 4-5-4 T13
Vernon Davis and Peta Murgatroyd - Foxtrot Man has footwork, I’ll give him that. I’m talking about his touchdown dance, that is. But his foxtrot was nothing to sniff at either. A lot of the issues I saw were pretty commonplace for athletic men getting foxtrot early on, like smoothing out his extensions and getting more glidey steps. Thought he deserved maybe 1 more point. 5-6-6 T17
Anne Heche and Keo Motsepe - Cha cha cha OMG I love her sass. Similar problem to Chrishell in that her steps didn’t always look secure, though cha cha is more forgiving a dance than tango. 6-6-6 T18
Jeannie Mai and Brandon Armstrong - Salsa She has potential if she can control her energy. I hope Brandon gets a good run with her because I think they could be another potent pair. 6-6-6 T18
Jesse Metcalfe and Sharna Burgess - Quickstep Props to him for tackling the quickstep right out the gate. If you wanna be sexy, that is not the pattern to wear. Also, quickstep isn’t a dance you smoulder in. He looked kinda intense and maybe not enjoying himself as much as he could have. He could be decent, though. And welcome back Sharna! 6-6-6 T18
Skai Jackson and Alan Bersten - Tango I’ve never seen any of her shows but she seems like such a nice girl. Carries herself really well. Looks like she and Alan get along well too. Tango could have used more travelling and she looked a bit tense at times. But she can become good. Weird music for the dance style. 7-7-7 T21
Kaitlyn Bristowe and Artem Chigvintsev - Cha cha cha One of the strongest dances at this point of the night. She looked the least Bambi-like and had good turn out but it was not consistent. Like Derek said, she felt a bit “safe”. Welcome back, Artem! 6-7-7 T20
Nev Schulman and Jenna Johnson - Foxtrot Haha he’s so adorkable. Also random, but I know Catfish as ‘the show that was on before Teen Wolf’. He has lots of potential and could also become a fan favourite with his affable personality. His dance felt oddly short compared to the others though? Oh and I dunno if it’s Jenna’s hair or how she did her makeup this week but she looks so pretty like this. 7-7-6 T20
Johnny Weir and Britt Stewart - Cha cha cha Bit like Skai, felt a bit tense at times in the dance. Some actions were a bit hard-hitting. Those eyes are crying out for some matching purple eyeshadow. Nice to see Britt being a pro. 6-6-6 T18
Justina Machado and Sasha Farber - Cha cha cha Best cha cha yet. She was nicely grounded but still energetic. Hit some good lines too. I can picture her being good at ballroom styles as well so she’s one to watch. 7-7-7 T21
Charles Oakley and Emma Slater - Salsa Emma said he has a natural rhythm in training so I wonder if he got into his head in the performance because I wasn’t seeing that. Other problems - flat footedness and lack of hip action we’ve seen before in tall athletes. 4-4-4 T12
Monica Aldama and Val Chmerkovskiy - Foxtrot She has a natural grace. I think she didn’t get into hold quite right initially so they looked a bit awkward for a while. Also I wonder when CAI will realise that no one cares about her lifting rules anymore. They all stopped caring over ten seasons ago. Thought her score would be a little higher. 6-7-6 T19
Nelly and Daniella Karagach - Salsa Nelly seems like such a fun, chill guy to hang out with. I feel like he was thinking quite hard about the dance and not fully immersing himself in it. He looked kinda reserved and trepid. He got all the steps though. Bruno was a little generous there though. Congrats to Daniella for her first dance as a pro partner! 5-5-6 T16
Carole Baskin and Pasha Pashkov - Paso Doble Throwing someone a paso on week 1? But the song works I guess. I feel like we’ve seen that cage like 5 times. Clearly this dance was just playing up to the whole tiger thing rather than actually trying to be a paso. 4-4-3 T11
Ok well. This show wasn’t bad. I miss Tom and Erin but I can get on board with Tyra. There aren’t any standout frontrunners yet, but a few low-hanging fruit. I think we’ll have a better picture once everyone has done one ballroom and one latin style.

DWTS 28 catchup: week 9
It’s boy bands vs girl groups night. With Joey Fatone as guest judge. Supposedly Emma Burton would have been there too but didn’t make it or something. Honestly, having Joey and Emma sounded like a really great idea. But also Emma’s dance judge qualifications are very dubious and Joey’s only one is being a former contestant, which hasn’t always worked before. Did enjoy his role in the opening number though.
Wow, I really like watching Pasha dance.
Part 1: girl group songs
James and Emma - Jive to the Pointer Sisters. This guy just oozes class. I didn’t see anything wrong with this dance technically. James pointed his feet and had very nice kicks and flicks. Maaaaybe he could have lifted his knees higher. He gave off very smooth jazz vibes and not what I’d hope for from a jive. 9-9-9-9 T36
Lindsay’s partner and Jenna - Argentine tango Destiny’s Child. Jenna stepping in for Lindsay again. To be fair, I was expecting this to be a full-on “microphone pole” dance where the female pro does most of the dancing while the male just stands around holding her. This dance wasn’t - well the back half at least. 7-6-7-6 T26
Hannah and Alan - Salsa TLC. Great dance, lots of turns that Hannah pulled off really well. Felt kinda short, but maybe I just didn’t want it to end. I feel like she might get picked on for not having a more competitive ballroom posture because she was very grounded and kept her knees bent. Social salsa does that though, so I can close an eye because everything else about this dance was good. 8-8-8-8 T32
Ally and Sasha - Samba Spice Girls. Okay, a lot of strutting, not as much samba, made the dance feel short. I’m realising all these dances are shorter cos they are making the contestants dance twice. I feel like Ally fell in and out of the samba bounce/feel and rhythm. It would look like she got it then two seconds later look like she was just doing steps. 10-10-10-10 T40 uh, what? do the judges have a soft spot for spice girls or something because that dance was good but not great.
Lauren and Gleb - Quickstep the Supremes. Good dance, thought they had good contact and nice footwork. Gleb played it safe and worked up the choreo starting with on the spot moves and the slower travelling steps, before going into the fast 90mph quickstep we all know and love to hate. 9-9-8-8 T34
Kel and Witney - Paso Doble En Vogue. Can’t remember who I said this for last week, but same thing here. Kel got too into the ‘mood’ of the paso and clenched his whole body so he was too tense. Made his footwork stompy and his shoulders come up. 8-8-9-9 T34
James and Emma - Jazz NSYNC. Um, THANK YOU costume team for putting James in that vest so we could see his arms. Wow. And he can f*ckin do a dolphin dive. One of the sexiest moves in my opinion. Okay, uh, I’m kinda conflicted about the choreography. I liked how it incorporated some NSYNC moves without completely copying the MV or Wanye Morris’ dance from some seasons back. And it definitely felt like something I would see at a boy band concert. But it also felt very basic structure wise. The steps were very discrete. 9-8-10-9 T36
P.S. go rewatch Frankie Muniz’ samba to the same song. Please. It was awesome.
Hannah and Alan - Tango BTS. This was a good dance. Something about Hannah threw me off at first. I think she was very tense in her frame and kinda grew into the dance. The execution was great though. Sharp, clean. 10-9-10-10 T39
Lindsay’s partner and Jenna - Foxtrot One Direction. He did the steps, stayed on time. Standard. 6-6-6-6 T24 mate...this was better than his first dance.
Lauren and Gleb - Rumba Backstreet Boys. Oof, her harshness was there from the first move. Felt very rough and not...viscuous. That’s the word for rumba. She had the range for hip action, but she wasn’t flowing through it, rather it was almost pose-y, like “my hips are here, now they are here”. 9-9-9-9 T36 Scores are stupid, her first dance was actually better than this.
Kel and Witney - Viennese Waltz Boyz II Men. Wowowowow comeback from Kel! That dance was smooth and effortless. I think he missed one or two heel leads but whoo! That was a lovely viennese waltz. He looked like a leading man out there. 10-10-10-10 T40
Ally and Sasha - Jazz NKOTB. I really liked the vibe of this dance. I didn’t really know what to expect because I didn’t think the music was the best song but I think Ally and Sasha did a good job with it. The choreography looked really fun and had many moments of interest. 10-10-10-10 T40
Bottom 2 were Lauren and Lindsay’s partner.
We did it. We finally got rid of you know who.
Now please for the love of all that is holy and sacred let James win this competition.

DWTS 28 catchup: weeks 7-8
k so I had a crazy end to the last month/start of this month and forgot about this show (except during the airing hours where I would see people start arguing/complaining on social media and be like ‘shit I have to avoid my phone for hours now’). I’ve managed to avoid major spoilers.
Week 7: Halloween night
Kel’s jive this was pretty tame, I thought Kel could give more energy. He was also lacking bounce. 9-9-9 T27
James’ Viennese Waltz wow, what can I say? James continues to impress. I’m just watching clips for this catch up instead of going through the whole episode and seeing rehearsals so I wonder if he was a specific character or something. 9-9-9 T27
Ally’s Tango decent dance. I would have liked more tension/impetus for a tango, but also the music wasn’t really lending ito that mood. One jupmy moment from Ally, otherwise solid. 9-9-9 T27
Hannah’s jazz like Kel, I expected more energy. Also, the choreography was very bland. The song doesn’t get my hyped up either. 8-9-8 T25
Karamo’s paso doble We’ve seen this before - Karamo, I feel, was trying very hard to nail the mood of the paso that he got too stiff throughout his body. Also had a few missteps. 9-8-8 T25
Lauren’s argentine tango the AT steps were okay. They needed more body contact, the gap between them was very perceptible. Lauren was quite loosey goosey with her frame which made their lifts and tricks look like a chore. And the whole dance felt oddly heavy. 9-9-9 T27
I dunno why Lauren and Kel are equal to Ally and James. Their dances this week haven’t been their strongest.
Lindsay’s partner jive Nothing more than we were expecting. Just enough to pass again, though I think this style did expose him. Flappy feet, went off time, had a few stumbles. 6-6-6 T18
Kate’s rumba This dance felt unusually short. Some posture and hip action anomalies here and there. There were times I felt Kate could have extended her lines just a bit more. Finally a ‘Wicked Games’ dance that isn’t an angst-wrought faux-contemporary. 8-8-8 T24
And team dances! I wonder how the teams were chosen
Team Trick (James, Ally, Hannah, Lauren) Relatively simple and clean but very nice to look at. Dunno if James slipped or he was meant to fall and crawl back? He was solid otherwise. 9-9-9 T27
Team Treat (Karamo, Kate, Kel, Lindsay’s partner) Also simple and clean. The concept is really weird though and I don’t know I want to read too much into it. 8-8-8 T24
Karamo and Kate (NO!) were the bottom 2. CAI saved Karamo. Bruno saved Kate. Len save Kate. I agree in saving Kate.
Week 8
Cute opening titles...what was that about?
Jenna stepped in for Lindsay this week.
Lindsay’s partner’s jazz wasn’t expecting much but somehow this ended up being his most pedestrian dance. it’s a jazz ffs, you can pass anything off as jazz on this show. 7-7-6 T20
Lauren’s jive her hard-hitting tendencies were coming out again. Also the dance felt very disjointed, like there were a lot of “okay, run to next formation now” or “okay we’re gonna stand here and wait for the next phrase”. 8-8-8 T24
Kel’s Salsa damn! Where did this come from! Kel brought the moves here. His side-by-side with the other male pros was wonderful. A good dance in a week where he’s at risk. 9-9-10 T28
Ally’s paso doble Good job Ally! Nice, fierce, intense paso, but still very controlled. The production and musicality were also all on point. 10-10-10 T30
Hannah’s quickstep A good, cute dance. Nothing wrong I noticed, just not the most memorable on the night. 10-9-10
Kate’s Jive I don’t understand their costumes but it was a really good dance. Kate had a nice bounce in her step. Shame about the mishap in the middle, though she didn’t let that faze her. 8-8-8 T24 I feel like she could have gotten one 9 if not for the missteps
James’ contemporary this style could have either been really exposing or really good for James. I’m glad it was more towards the latter. His movement was really really good. The dance on a whole was also very nice, though some parts I felt a bit disconnected because the camera zoomed in and cut out James’ action, or I just felt like I wanted more from the choreography there and then. 10-10-10 T30
Okay so there were immunity dance-offs...who picked who? Also there were parts in each dance-off where the contestants interacted with each other that makes me think the pairings were predetermined before the show instead of picked live in previous seasons this was done. Again, I’m just watching clips to catch up so I don’t see the whole procedures.
James already immune because he had the highest score these 2 weeks and overall highest average.
Ally vs Kel - Jive I thought they were both equally matched. Kel’s jive was a lot better than his Halloween one, which makes me think that Kel really shines if you give him a song he can get into (Queen, High School Musical, etc). Winner: Kel (2-1)
Kate vs Lindsay’s partner - Cha cha we all know who would be better in this one. Anyway, the song just made me miss Charlie White’s cha cha and wow HOW DID CHARLIE WHITE NOT WIN THE SHOW WITH SHARNA Winner: Kate (3-0)
Hannah vs Lauren - Salsa Have either of them done salsa before this point? Hannah and Alan did a very good job - went right for it and didn’t stop. Lauren was very tame, and I blame Gleb here because they didn’t have much salsa steps, just some basics and a hella bunch of showboating. The part where he left her alone was so awkward and Lauren didn’t even milk a second of her solo. Hannah wins for me. Winner: Hannah (3-0)
Oh wait is the immunity for this elimination or the next?? The next?
Kate and Ally were in the bottom 2 which is RIDICULOUS. CAI and Bruno both save Ally. Which is fair, as much as I’ve come to love Kate.

Any idea on who is going to get eliminated next? I'm hoping the same person everyone else is hoping, cause he sucks. I could careless what his political opinions are he's bad. He keeps getting votes though, but he has a jive and I could see him having a hard time. Other then him the only person I can see going is Karamo. I don't know who else could be in trouble. Maybe Hannah?
I think Karamo is in danger. If he who shall not be named’s jive is bad enough, and everyone else dances well, then we’ll find be rid of him. I don’t think Hannah is in danger *yet* because Bachelor Nation has a decent pull within the show’s voting base.
