Throughout the season I’ve been wondering who Len would’ve liked this season. He loved Artem and Pasha so much, I have to think he would’ve been all about Ariana and Charity
I would’ve loved to see him critique Harry 😂

And just like that, Season 32 of Dancing With the Stars comes to an end.
All the competitors returned for one final show, most participating in the opening number. There had been some concerns as Jamie Lynn had not been pictured in a photo of the returning stars and their pros posted before the finale but she confirmed that she had been sick so was waiting for medical clearance. She got it and briefly appeared in the opening number even though she didn't dance. And Barry treated us to one more shirtless dance as he and Peta danced in the audience at one point.
There was also a performance to celebrate Christmas featuring the pros along with Alfonso and Julianne. At one point, Witney Carson and Helio Castroneves joined their former partners (Alfonso and Julianne, respectively) while former winners Hannah Brown and Rashad Jennings joined in to dance with their former partners (Alan and Emma, respectively). Jason performed his song "I Feel Like Dancing" and even did a little dancing with Daniella, who then finished the dance with her husband Pasha. (The show tried to make a Big Deal about the fact that they are the first husband and wife duo in the finale but neither seemed to want to make it a Big Deal). Charli D'Amelio also performed a new routine with Mark Ballas, who was congratulated on his new baby! Charli also helped hand out the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy as well.
Before we got to that point, our finalists had two rounds of competition to go through first. The first round was the redemption dance where each couple was assigned a dance style to redo and hopefully get better scores after working with a judge. In the second round, the rulebook was thrown out the windows and the couples put it all on the line with their freestyle routines.
For one last time this season, let's take a look at how our stars did!
Alyson and Sasha: Alyson thought that Alfonso had made a mistake when he announced she made it to the finals. But she and Sasha celebrate being there and vow to work hard to the very end. Carrie Ann assigns them to dance the salsa again, which was the very first dance Alyson did for the competition. She gave Alyson some pointers and you can see how much Alyson improved from Week 1 to Week 11. I've said before that I could justify Alyson winning the trophy because she was the most improved and this proved it. For her freestyle, she combined Taylor Swift and Jennifer Lopez to do a nice mash-up of ballroom and Latin that showed off her talent and her personality. She also got in a reference to American Pie by saying: "This one time on Dancing with the Stars, I made it to the finals!" It was great to see her in the finale and she should be proud of her fifth place finish.
Charity and Artem: Carrie Ann also mentored Charity and assigned her to do the tango again. She also gave her some tips on how to connect emotionally with her dance. I don't really remember Charity's tango and usually I would rewatch the routines to comment on them but with it being the finale, I decided to just go with my memory. I do remember her freestyle. She decided to tap into her past as a cheerleader and even had help from the cast of Cheer. It was a pretty fun routine. I feel like we've had some cheerleading/sports inspired freestyles that were a little better than this one but for what it was, it was a great way to close out Charity's time on the show. Fourth place may seem disappointing to some driven like her but it's still nothing to sneeze at. She should be proud of everything she did on this show.
Ariana and Pasha: Ariana and Pasha get some coaching from Derek, who assigns her to dance the samba again. It's a fun and energetic routine, again highlighting how talented she is as a performer. Carrie Ann thought she was off the beat but Derek and Bruno thought she did it well. Ariana then had her freestyle, which I thought got off to a weak start and I didn't feel she did much dancing at first. Toward the end, she started to really shine but I was hoping for more. But I am happy that she made it to third place. She worked hard despite her injury and I wish her all the best when she makes her Broadway debut in Chicago!
Jason and Daniella: Bruno assigned Jason and Daniella to dance the foxtrot again, which they danced during Disney Week. He gave them some pointers and Jason definitely improved. This time he glided across the floor and he channeled some classic Hollywood feelings to help with the elegance of his dance. All the judges were impressed. For his freestyle, his was fast paced and was inspired by the Lindy-hop and jive. It was fun to watch and had a lot of content. Jason handled it masterfully and showed how to throw a celebration with your freestyle. I always suspected it would come down to him and someone else so I was not surprised to see him in the final two. While falling just short of the mirrorball trophy likely stung, second place is still a great honor. Way to go, Jason!
Xochitl and Val: Bruno also worked with Xochitl and Val, also giving them the foxtrot as well. And like Jason, Xochitl also channeled some classic Hollywood glamour for an elegant dance though she still also gave it a modern twist - much like her Viennese waltz. Unsurprisingly, she received perfect scores for her routine. She and Val then celebrated her culture by doing a Latin-inspired routine. Her freestyle absolutely was a reflection on herself and she shone throughout it all. Every finalist deserved the mirrorball trophy for their own reason and Xochitl deserved it for how hard she worked and how she kept topping herself week after week. Congratulations, Xochitl and Val on your win. You deserved it!
Thanks to everyone who has read my thoughts on this season of Dancing With the Stars! It certainly was a fun season that kept us guessing to the end. I look forward to Season 33 next year and hope you'll come back to find out my thoughts about that!
Have a happy holiday season if you celebrate and I hope you all have a happy New Year!

Dancing with the Stars Season 32 Week 6: Halloween
We are kinda late with this, but it's okay. I just want to make note of a few things. As the whole season has been, Halloween night was fine. It wasn't amazing. It wasn't terrible. It was fine. The level of dancing for everyone this year (yes, everyone) leaves a lot to be desired. And I think the judges are not doing at least two couples any favors by being extremely lenient with them. Also, I have already said this a few times, but I found Niecy to be an amazing guest judge. She was kind when she needed to be. She gave tough love when it was needed. She was real with everyone. She came having done her homework. She looked for specific things regarding technique and she was on point with all of it. I'm going to split this up into the top scores, middle of the pack and bottom of the leaderboard.
Top Scores
I'm going to start this with saying that I don't think anyone deserved a 10 this week either. However, unlike last week, I can see why the 10s happened. Xochitl's dance was fine. I don't like contemporary, so that's already a point against it. And Val has NEVER impressed me with his contemporary choreo. Like Charity last week, this dance felt oddly disconnected from the actual music and I'm just not sure why. She still has balance issues though the judges still have yet to call it out. I got the 10 though because Niecy talked about powering through an injury and all that.
Ariana I think had the best created Argentine tango that I've seen on this show in YEARS. I think the music added to giving us the right mood and the choreography was classic ATango. Props to Pasha for that. It might have been my favorite piece of choreography of the season (not performance). Now Ariana did well, but her legs were nowhere near as strong, sharp or precise as I needed them to be. Again, no 10 from me, but I understand Bruno's 10 for the very classic Argentine tango that was mostly fine.
Jason was the closest to perfect for me, but he still felt slightly off. Not sure what was happening, but he just wasn't as grounded as he typically is.
Middle of the Pack
Okay, so this is the point in the season that I have to tug on Artem's edges a bit. WAKE UP, MAN! Your partner is amazing. Why do you have her tipping her way through a jive. He has the same problem that Tony had where most of his partners kinda just mark their Latin dances. This jive was low energy and boring. Niecy was right to tell Charity to just go for it and Derek was right to say that Lele and Charity can learn from each other. The problem with Charity though is while Lele can and is making progress on refining her dances, Charity is not making progress on the letting go aspect. And again, that falls at Artem's feet more than her.
Last week was a breakout dance for Lele. I think this week was the week that cemented her as a legit contender, score be damned. It wasn't perfect but it was a very good dance. It was actually better than the judges (namely CAI) made it out to be. Yes, we need just a tad bit more refinement, but Lele is basically there. Ariana, Charity and Xochitl are not that superior to her in terms of performance or technique anymore. Either those three need to not be scored as high as they are, or Lele needs to be scored higher.
I put Barry in the middle of the pack because even though he scored lower than Mauricio overall, in my opinion, he had a much better night in his individual dance. As a performer, I think Barry is the best of the season. No one embodies a character like he has. No one commits to the dance like he does. He lost some of the grace and refinement as a result of this, but it was still a really good dance.
Bottom of the Leaderboard
Mauricio is gone, but I fully expected it. He improved but he is not the dancer that folks were acting like he was and with his fanbase being questionable, his time was quickly running out. To me, it was his best dance and also a perfect dance for them to leave on.
Alyson had her best dance in my opinion. Her timing was much better, she wasn't as hoppy as she usually is in her dances and she looked much more confident. Her technique was much more sound as well. Niecy was right about the grace and refinement. She is lacking that. But it was a definite improvement and it was a dance that made me sit up and finally take notice of her.
Okay so Harry is not as bad as many folks want him to be. He's not great. He's really not good honestly. But he's not terrible. He is trying. He is getting better. And he actually has potential to be a decent dancer. His big issues are that he dances very small. Between the way he dances inward, his posture kinda caving in and him not fully using his lines, it's a problem. He also just doesn't bend his legs when he dances. It's weird. It's almost like he gets out there and forgets how to move from point A to point B. I'm not a professional, but I wanna just get in the studio with him and work on that. I think fixing that would make his dances look a lot better.
Thoughts on the Marathon
So I shared some of this throughout the week, but here is a more comprehensive look at my feelings. It was actually handled much better than last season. It felt like they were trying to give a specific person more points (like it usually does), but they didn't go out of their way to crown her the winner if she didn't deserve it. Ariana probably should've been 4th, but she got 2nd. Meh. Not too big of a difference. Xochitl probably should've been 3rd but won. Again, not terrible. I feel bad for Jason and Lele being shafted. Usually they get the top 2 right, but after that nonsense last season, I will gladly take the top 4 being right. Everyone else went out about when they should've. I've seen talk about Charity sneaking into the top 4, but she just would've been 4th anyway, so it doesn't make much difference to me that she was 5th.
A few things. That was the sloppiest and worst danced marathon I have ever seen on this show. The fact that they ran out of steam that badly when it was also the shortest marathon that they have ever had was disappointing. I also do not like how they get the couples off the floor anymore. In seasons past, the producers would come in, tap them and quickly leave. The couple would exit the floor on the sides or into the audience and go onto the raised part of the stage. I did not like the pros, dressed as grim reapers, going to tap the eliminated couples. They did too much, took too much attention off the dancing and got in the way. I just want that to never happen again. Cute idea. Not practical at all for the competing couples or the viewers. I also don't like how they stuff the couples in the audience. Put them on that stage to lessen the chances of them running into the other couples. If a couple just has to go up the stairs when they get eliminated as opposed to exiting to the side, let them do that so that don't run into people.
So those are my thoughts. Let me know you all's lingering thoughts and we'll be back on Tuesday.

Mating season!
Season 31 of DWTS must be mating season for the pros.  First, Sharna, then Jenna, then Lindsay, Witney and now Daniella!  What the heck is going on with all those pros popping babies out now almost all at once?? LOL.  Anyway congrats to Daniella and Pasha and of course those others who are still expecting!

It was Week 2 of competition and our contestants were tasked with dancing to music by the King of Rock and Roll himself, no doubt trying to capitalize on the success of the Elvis movie that came out this past summer. The remaining 15 couples were split into three different "eras" of Elvis' life - classic, Hollywood and Vegas. Who rose to the occasion and who had to leave the building with the King?
Let's check it out!
Teresa and Pasha: Poor Teresa. She really tried and her jive to "All Shook Up" did show some improvement. But the votes just weren't there and in the end, the judges were split. Derek and Bruno wanted to keep her but Carrie Ann and Len voted for Cheryl, which was understandable. Len's vote automatically breaks the tie so Teresa had to go. But she should be proud of what she managed to do in just two weeks. And I'm sure her father was smiling down at her during her performance.
Charli and Mark: Charli continues to do well in the competition, easily handling the quickstep to "Bossa Nova Baby". But she's going to have to step up her game. While last week she was alone at the top, this week she was in a three-way tie for first place. So if she doesn't want to be the one who burned brightly early and then faded away to the middle of the pack, she's going to have to really work and wow the judges.
Gabby and Val: Gabby is coming for Charli as the top woman in the competition. I still am not a fan of her packages and still find something lacking in them. But in the end, it's more about the dancing than her personality. Well, at least for me. So I think if she continues to nail her other dances the way she nailed the Viennese waltz to "Can't Help Falling in Love," then she could make it to the end. (Also, nice touch to add her fiancé at the end as well).
Wayne and Witney: Wayne is still the best male dancer in this competition. He had some concerns about his ability to do the jive but he had nothing to worry about. He handled the fast dance very well, burning up the dance floor to "Burning Love." I love watching him each week and look forward to many more to come.
Trevor and Emma: Derek is right - Trevor is starting to love dance rather than fear it. He handled the rumba very well and it was rightly given high scores - this dance to "Always on My Mind" was his best one so far. Hopefully there will be more dances like it in the future. Trevor is likely Wayne's best male competition right now and I am really rooting for him.
Daniel and Britt: Daniel and the jive go well together. He really felt the beat of "King Creole" and let his body do the rest. He and Britt are working very well together and he is handling the faster dances very well. It will be interesting to see him dance a slower song but for now, I'm enjoying the joy he is bringing to all his routines. (Also, his co-star and past DWTS contestant Marlee Matlin was in the audience to cheer him on).
Heidi and Artem: Heidi is getting better and I think it's because she's feeling more comfortable in the ballroom. Her foxtrot to "Suspicious Minds" was elegant and she continues to have a great relationship with Artem. I'm eager to see what they do next week.
Selma and Sasha: I was a little worried about her this week after hearing she had the jive. A Viennese waltz is slower and likely easier when you have limited control over your body. The jive - not so much. But she broke out of jail and performed a kickass jive to "Jailhouse Rock," including some acrobatic work. Selma is showing that physical limitations may slow you down but you can still do whatever you put your mind to. Way to go, Selma!
Shangela and Gleb: I do enjoy watching Shangela perform each week. Her quickstep to "Shake, Rattle and Roll" was a fun romp around the dance floor but still maintained the dance. She always puts a smile on my face and I hope she and Gleb continue to do so for several more weeks.
Jordin and Brandon: Jordin lost her footing a bit during her quickstep to "Hound Dog" but recovered well. She needs to work on controlling her body better. The moves are there and she has the ability to perform them. And she has a great partner in Brandon. They work well together and I think once she works on a few weaknesses, she could explode from the middle of the pack and move up.
Vinny and Koko: Vinny certainly wins "Most Improved" this week. His quickstep was much better than his salsa. He still has a lot to work on but Koko will no doubt help whip him into shape. Hopefully this is the start of an upward trajectory for our Jersey boy and not just a fluke. (PS: Their song was "Viva Las Vegas").
Sam and Cheryl: Sam is pretty steady so far. He handled the Viennese waltz to "Heartbreak Hotel" very well though he did have some pain from his routine the week before. But he pushed through it and delivered another solid performance. But soon just being solid won't be enough. He'll have to step it up if he wants to move up the leaderboard and have a chance of winning the mirrorball trophy.
Jessie and Alan: Jessie seems to be more focused this week, likely starting to find her balance between dancing, work and home. She handled the moves of the foxtrot but I think she still needs to learn how to inject her heart into her dances. That will certainly help elevate her in this crowd. Alan should be able to help her with that with little "Trouble." (Sorry, couldn't help myself).
Joseph and Alexis: Daniella tested positive for COVID the morning of the show and so she had to go into isolation. Joseph and Pasha were required to wear masks while dancing because they were close contacts and had tested negative. Joseph also had to perform his Viennese waltz to "If I Can Dream" with troupe member Alexis Warr. So, first, kudos to her for learning the routine within hours. Second, kudos to Joseph with handling the change and performing the dance admirably. Way to go! And third, feel better soon, Daniella!
Cheryl and Louis: Cheryl and Louis took Carrie Ann's advice to do something more difficult after her great start in Week 1. And it may have backfired on her. She struggled with her tango to "A Little Less Conversation" and tried to deliver. I do understand why Carrie Ann and Len voted to save her. It's so early that this week could easily be a fluke and that Cheryl could recover from it. We'll see how she does next week.
Next week we'll celebrate 60 years of James Bond. See you then!

Dancing with the Stars Season 32 Week 5: A Tribute Fit for a Legend
So this is super late. I did not realize how much I did not want to write about 5 contemporaries that I did not find to be all that good or interesting. Only one was cool. The rest I either didn't care about at all or just weren't all that good. So what I'm gonna do is talk about the Len tribute, my favorite dance of the night and then talk about my general feelings about the rest of the night.
Len Tribute
Len's tribute was the best moment of the night for me. I kinda miss watching a straightforward ballroom routine. Over the last 5 years, we've gotten so far from that with all the themes and the desires to be different that the pros are creating a lot of unmemorable dances because they're losing the essence of the show and the dance. This waltz really captured the essence of the show and was such a beautiful tribute to someone that had such a major impact on this part of the dance community. I love rule breaking and updating dances as much as the next person, but only if there is a well thought out reason behind it and you're not just throwing things together. Anyway, I may have had my feelings about Len from time to time, but I cannot deny his impact and how much all of us will miss his presence. What a great way to honor him.
Favorite Dance
With all I said about traditional routines, I have to say that Barry and Peta's paso was my favorite dance of the night for the same reason that I really enjoyed the waltz for Len. It was a classic paso and we really got to see Barry at his best so far. He did extremely well and that dance left the biggest impact on me. The score was appropriate and I have to say that it might be my favorite dance of the season so far.
Thoughts on the Contemporaries
I didn't care for them at all. Charity's was weird and kinda detached from the music. Harry's was bad. Mauricio and Mira's were non events (and Mira's was kinda cringey). Lele's was cool but again, I just didn't even really care for it. I never want another night of 5 contemporaries. It's too much. Especially because we mostly have untrained pros putting these dances together and they always end up looking the same.
General Thoughts
No one deserved a 10. I think Charity and Jason deserved the highest scores with 27s. Xochitl should've gotten a 26 because they were some pitter patter moments throughout the dance. I thought Ariana had her best dance of the season. Alyson was fine. There could've been more in hold. Jason still needs to work on his hold. Also, I'm not shocked that Mira was eliminated. That was the most obvious elimination of the season to me. Yeah, that's really it.
I also do not like the fact that the show is keeping the judges' save around without actually committing to whether or not it is going to be something that they use. At this point, we know it is coming back up this season. Be honest and let us know that it will be returning during a double. Either do that or it looks like you're only keeping it around to save Charity, Ariana, Xochitl or Jason if they end up in the bottom with Harry or Alyson. And while it would be hard to lose one of those four over the other two, it happens. We don't get to pick and choose how we let this show be this show. Either force the judges to judge properly or don't bring this shit back next season, Conrad. And this is on him because he loves to play these games with trying to keep people over others in ways that he feels is slick (when it's not and I see right through him and have since the stuff he pulled back in season 12).
Let me know your thoughts and I will talk to you all soon.
