So, I’ll be listening and reading Namjoon’s songs and lyrics as a special celebration for his birthday. I’m going to cry my heart out while I’m doing this, and I’ll leave my thoughts here, chapter by chapter, song by song, lyric by lyrics.

Note: This is how I feel the songs, and that’s how I also feel about music in general, it depends how each one of us feels it, so this is only mean to express how I feel while listening to them.

Special thanks to Kim Namjoon for writing this beautiful lyrics, and giving a meaning to music, it means a lot me and Namjoon, you mean a lot (like, A LOT) to me. So this is for me, and for you, love you, and I wish I was able to talk about your songs face to face.

Chapter 1: Voice (목소리)

After listening to it, I feel heavy, but not in a bad way. Namjoon deeply talks about his youngerself, and I can understand him, even If I haven't gone through the same. The lyrics... he talks about finding his dream, and how the world was against this, but despite of that, he got where he is right now. I feel so proud of him, and thankfull to this well-written lyrics.

" My identity that I wrote down matched to the drum and bass "

This is so meaningfull, this is what music means to him, and what music also means to me. It's like finding your safe place in music, a place to be yourself and open to who you really are. Reading the lyrics of the song feels like listening to a story that you don't want to end... it truly fills me. And after carefully reading the lyrics I feel they are part of me too...

Chapter 2: Do You

I need to have a conversation with Namjoon about this song. He says the right things, with the rights words. Things that need to be said out loud. It's a self- empowering song, that is meant to put you on the focus, on who you are, and not to let anyone change you. Just do you.

I have to say this: I love Namjoon playing with words, like "Like I said, fashion will soon be passion. If you write it in Korean it’s the same, 패션*" It's so smart. He talks about the way he thinks using the exact words.

I'm going to make my little sister read the lyrics of the song, and even more, I'll make everyone read the lyrics of this song. Without a doubt: another masterpiece.

Chapter 3: Awakening  (각성/覺醒)

This songs, just like the other, are deep because this is Namjoon, in raw, this is him telling his own stories, speaking up for all he went through since he got into Big Hit.

“My heart pounds, my colleagues stab me in the back While saying that I became a moron after joining a company"

Like he says, he lost friends, mates, they stabbed him in the back, saying awfull thing about him (a couple of things I remember from the 4ThingsShow he participated). And after all of it, he proved himself. I'm proud of all decision that Namjoon made, cause it led him to who he is right now.

"Yeah fuck you I’m an idol, yeah yeah I’m an idol At one time I hated it but now I love to get that title"

To be honest, I don't like the title "Idol" at all, and everything that comes with that label. But, Namjoon is so much more than that. He is a true artist, loyal to his music and his thoughts, and that's why I love everything he writes. This album, mono and every song that Namjoon took part proves this. I could even say that Namjoon is more than an artist. He has taught me things my parents haven't in my 17 years of life.

I'll end this chapter saying that Kim Namjoon is art.

Chapter 4: Monster

I think that writing this songs is like a way for Namjoon to express all his anger, in the most amazing way. It's a smart way of releasing all his feelings, he is giving music a purpose. And I truly love that. This might be directed to all the people that make fun of him, and judge him, and as always shows this confidence in Namjoon about his rap and lyrics (and wordplay!) that I love about him.

"My rap ain’t for you- My music ain’t for everybody, especially not for you-" 

Chapter 5: 버려 (Throw Away)  

It's really hard for me to understand this lyrics, and I wish I could talk with Namjoon about this, but as what I read, I think the lyrics are about what rap means to him... he put his soul into his music, and with rapping he found this place to let's say "throw away" all this feelings... I'm not sure about this... sorry Nam...

Chapter 6: 농담 (Joke)

I think Namjoon is really coming at every one who thinks they are rappers but actually aren't for him, (and it makes sense with every verse) I feel yah. He is also like defying everyone who thinks he isn't a rapper... it's insane, and I love it. It feels like a shout of confidence of who he is, a "come at me". And I know that after all the hate comments he received this might be his way of releasing all the anger and thoughts he hold for a long time. He found the best way to do it. Proud of this man.

Chapter 7: God Rap 

So... I'm feeling a bit down lately, but I'll give my best. God Rap seems like another self-confidence anthem, and it truly feels like one... I'll leave a couple of quotes:

"If you asked me if I would be born again as someone, I would choose myself"

"Even if I can’t die a legend that’s okay cuz I’m my legend"

"I don’t have any religion, because I am my own god"
