Death Dinner
youtube
So I was listening to this 2022 panel and they have each cast member bring a photo from like a nice day on set with each other. They don't show the photos in the recording, BUT Lauren Cohan said something about her that stuck with me. She said that when a character dies, they have death dinners, and she brought a photo from one of their death dinners where they played Heads Up. She then corrected herself and said this wasn't really a death dinner. This stuck out to me because I either heard or read Emily say that during her death dinner, they played heads up. I either saw this in the Coda Talking Dead episode, read it in an article, or one of the cons I watched this week with Emily. I have been reading and listening to so much stuff and I didn't think that tidbit of info would be important enough to save until I came across this con today.
It's perfectly possible that they have played Heads Up as a cast numerous times, and not just at Emily's death dinner.
I did also learn here that Christine Wood was not invited to Emily's death dinner, even though she died in the same episode.

This panel was a fun watch. This was prior to the season 5 premiere. I think there were a few tidbits like Beth's storyline and how they integrate comic book Andrea and Dale without TV show Andrea and Dale.
I read another interview with Gimple while at work where the group that he absolutely knew had to be together post prison was Beth and Daryl. So take that for what you will.

In the end, when they're all gone When the world is silent and the days are long Just you and I, we'll be alive We made it on our own
'Cause everybody makes it 'till they don't And everybody wants to think they won't 'Cause everybody makes it 'till they don't And everybody seems to think they won't, they won't, they won't, they won't
Baby, I'm still alive but my heart is beating slow Baby, tell me I gotta know Are you okay? You seem too far gone Infected, standing there all alone
'Cause everybody makes it 'till they don't And everybody wants to think they won't And everybody makes it 'till they don't And everybody seems to think they won't, they won't, they won't, they won't
The best of me, the best of me is you The best of me, the best of me was you
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa Ladum, badum, mmmm
The interviewer at the Amsterdam panel brought it up as a random tidbit of info
I remember reading a few days ago that "Fingers Crossed" from Billie Eilish had some interesting lyrics? Someone give me details 😂

Answers I Want From TPTB if They Never Intended Beth to Come Back:
1. What did No KIAs on BEF mean in Clear?
2. Why the sheriff's hat flashback in A?
3. Why did you not show her fans a burial to give them closure?
4. Why was the group so disturbed by the Beth silhouette walker trapped in the car of WHAWGA?
5. Why the time skip?
6. Why have the music box canonically symbolize Beth and have it be seemingly broken, only to work after Aaron says "I have good news,"?
7. Why did Maggie panic with Beth walker in Them, and he specific dialogue, "I closed it and it is still in there,"?
8. Why was Daryl so freaked out about going through the cluster of cars in Them that he went around?
9. Why do you not have Daryl ever talk about Beth, or anyone?
10. Why did Daryl check the face of the Beth lookalike tied to the tree?
11. Why distinguish Beth's portrait from the rest in Maggie's office?

I was able to decode all of these but 1 (??)
B or C for Effort is also on there but I forgot to write it in my drafts.
So Emily suddenly reposted this in her stories on April 1st. The day after her comic con in France. The post is from March 20th and yeah she is promoting her music bla bla. But the album is literally called "The supporting Character" with the first song being "Omaha Hotel", "Cadillac", and "When the Midnight fireworks start" (and others) which are all suspicious songs as we know. And it's a Pink Vinyl😆😆 why repost it now🤔
Also maybe yesterday (?) she posted this from her notes which are some songs she's going to be singing and it's probably nothing.. but why did she cover them

Bluebird Symbolism in TOWL 1X4 And Its Relation To The Numbers "10" and "2"
I’ve written a bunch of posts on bluebird symbolism before, particularly during TWDDD, that show was full of these bluebird references. Go read those posts (for exemple here, here, here or here) for more in-depth analysis of the symbolism, but long story short, the bluebird symbolism was the reason we really could tell for sure that Rick and Beth are two sides to the same coin as far as resurrection symbolism goes. We all remember the Blue Heron painting behind Beth in Still, as she and Daryl emerged out from the labyrinth of death that was the golf club. “We made it!” she exclaimed, effectively foreshadowing her future fate.
Tumblr media
Then, through foreshadowing provided by Noah’s t-shirt, (with a stylized blue heron) we see, in TWD 8x2 The Damned, another Blue Heron painting, this time behind Rick!
Tumblr media
We didn’t know it at the time, but we later learned that Andrew Lincoln would be taking a break from the franchise, and his character Rick would be “just gone” for the unforeseeable future. But, we also knew he would eventually return, as the OG Sirius character he is. And that’s interesting for TD, because Beth and Rick are paralleled so closely when it comes to the resurrection symbolism they’re surrounded with.
In TOWL 1x4 What We, we see this tapestry fairly early in the episode.
Tumblr media
The birds are peacocks, and peacocks are definitely blue birds.
Tumblr media
@angelthefirst1 posted an excellent post on elevators and the 10 - 2 symbolism this morning, and I wanted to piggyback off of that because of how it ties neatly into the bluebird symbolism and the numbers 10 and 2.
Elevators, much like bridges, ladders, stairs etc, are metaphorical passages through which the characters can move between the "realms". These liminal spaces are what allows characters like Beth and Rick to return to the realm of the living, after having stayed in the "death realm", the "underworld" for an extended period of time. And we saw that in Still, when Beth and Daryl moved through what a Gimple described as “the nine circles of hell” at the golf club, before they returned to the "realm of the living".
We also saw this theme of "passages", liminal spaces between the realms, around the second blue heron painting, the one from TWD 8x2 The Damned. We specifically saw Rick and Daryl move up through the elevator shaft in order to reach the floor where the Blue Heron painting was.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We first see Daryl opening the elevator shaft from the inside, he then gets up and subsequently helps Rick up into the corridor.
Tumblr media
The elevator shaft is the metaphorical passage that foreshadows Rick's journey to the "death realm", but it is also, as seen in TOWL 1x4, what allows him to return to the realm of the living. And as @angelthefirst1 pointed out, him doing so was accompanied by a voice repeating the numbers “10” and “2”.
And this is where it gets really interesting.
Because yes, it is a reference to the Slabtown clock, the “Get Well Soon” clock. We all have our different takes on that. It can be interpreted in several interesting ways. I believe one of the main purposes of the clock was to call back to the red fire engine we first saw in 5x5 Self Help. That fire engine, Engine 82, was present at the heartbreaking last shot of Coda, when Daryl carried Beth’s seemingly lifeless body out of Grady. I'll explain why below.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Remember, ladders, like elevators, stairwells and bridges, are metaphorical passages through which characters can move between the realms. Take Rick for instance, his death was foreshadowed by the elevator shaft and the blue heron painting from 8x2 The Damned. Then he “died” on a bridge.
We were specifically shown a ladder in 5x7 Crossed, Maggie used it to provide shade for Eugene after Abraham had knocked him unconscious. The ladder literally helped him “wake up” from an unconscious state.
Tumblr media
It’s no coincidence that the fire engine from season 5 specifically was a number “82”, pointing towards episode 8x2. Episode 8x2 The Damned specifically foreshadows Rick's "death" and "resurrection".
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s no coincidence that it was Noah’s t-shirt, with the stylized heron, that foreshadowed Rick’s “death” and “resurrection”, and that the t-shirt specifically pointed us to episode 8x2.
It's no coincidence that we see Engine 82, complete with a ladder, front and center as Daryl carries Beth out of Grady. Engine 82, with the ladder, foreshadows her resurrection.
And it’s no coincidence that in TOWL 1x4, we see another representation of a blue bird, this time a peacock, right before Rick metaphorically “returns” to the realm of the living, to Michonne, to the life he knew. Because those blue birds herald resurrection.
(Obviously Rick hasn't physically returned to his previous life and his family yet, but he experienced a psychological breakthrough, where he chose Michonne, he cose his family and he chose "the realm of the living". He chose to reject the CRM, where he had learned "to be dead" as he explained to Michonne in the episode)
So finally, let me return to the voice repeating the numbers “10” and “2” from TOWL 1x4. We know the Slabtown clock can be interpreted in a multitude of ways, and like I said above, I believe it's a callback to Engine 82 from 5x5 Self Help. I'm getting to that in a minute, first let's briefly explore some of the other potential interpretations, because of course, they're interconnected.
I’ve described a few ways of interpreting it in previous posts, one way to interpret it is to break down for example the “2” into “one one” which is a reference to the “one one” on Noah’s t-shirt.
You can also read it as a reference to episode 10x11 (read 10 - one one), which was called “Morningstar”, an obvious reference to the Venus/Sirius symbolism (read more here).
Interestingly, 10x11 Morningstar is the episode where Daryl got his upgraded vest, and in this article on how Daryl got new wings, I found this part particularly interesting:
Tumblr media
Cailey Fleming, who plays Judith, explains how she restored the tattered wings so that Daryl now finally has TWO wings again, dotted with TEN stars.
See how that’s another representation of the numbers “10” and “2”? In an episode foreshadowed by the Slabtown clock, if you read it as 10 - one one? An episode literally named Morningstar, which is a Sirius/Venus reference?
Tumblr media
And see how one of the wings are now blue? That’s another representation of bluebird symbolism!
In TOWL 1x4 we see Michonnes scar, and she tells the story on how she and Daryl got branded. Daryl's scars interestingly form a constellation along with other scars that reasonably be interpreted as the Roman numerals X II, which translates into 10 and 2. Or if you read it as 10 - one one, you could say it points to episode 10x11 Morningstar.
To recap, in TOWL, we see michonnes scar, an X, in an episode where we also see two peacocks, two blue birds. See how that conceptually shares similarities with the scars on Daryl's back, that forms a X II, pointing to an episode where he gets a revamped vest with TEN stars and TWO wings, one of them blue? See how the 10 2 symbolism and the bluebird symbolism keep popping up together?
Tumblr media
In TOWL, the voice repeating the numbers 10 and 2 is tied to the elevator, and remember, elevators = passages between the realms. And the same goes for ladders. Now let me remind you of Engine 82, last seen as Daryl carried Beth's lifeless body out from Grady, and why I believe the Slabtown clock is a callback to it.
I mentioned above that one of my favorite ways to interpret the 10 and the 2 and the Slabtown clock is that it serves as a callback to episode 5x5 Self Help, where Abraham, Eugene and the rest of Team Washington found Engine 82. And when they did, it was backed up to a building marked with this particular number:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That's right, Engine 82 was first seen backed up to a building marked 102! A direct reference to the Slabtown clock, and directly foreshadowing Beth's "death" and "resurrection".
Imo, the voice repeating the numbers “10” and “2” in TOWL 1x4 were referring to the building where we first saw the fire engine, back in 5x5, well before Beth “died”. The “102” on the building foreshadowed the Slabtown clock, the Slabtown clock was a callback to the 102 on the building where we first saw the fire engine.
Engine 82 represents the presence of metaphorical “passages" between the realms, such as elevators, stairs, ladders and bridges, through which the characters can travel unhindered between the realms. They are what foreshadows "death", but also what allows for "resurrection".
Depending on how you choose to read the numbers on the Slabtown clock, you could also argue that they point to episode 2x2, which is when we first meet Beth, or 2x10, which is 18 Miles Out, the episode where she initially attempts suicide, but eventually decides she wants to live (again, foreshadowing her surviving).
Like I mentioned, it could also refer to the “one one” on Noah’s t-shirt with the stylized heron, and it could refer to episode 10x11 (read 10 - one one) which is called Morningstar (straight up Venus/Sirius symbolism).
Tumblr media
Or, like I’ve described above, it could be a reference to the building where we first saw the fire engine, Ladder 82, in which “ladder” is one of the metaphorical passages which allows characters like Rick and Beth to undergo a “death and resurrection” arc.
No matter how you chose to interpret the numbers “10” and “2”, it’s safe to say they indicate “resurrection” for anyone associated with them. Particularly when they’re accompanied with the presence of blue birds!
(Side note, Ladder 82 is noticably very red, and it was backed up against a red door on the building marked with the number 102. I call it “red controls the gates” symbolism, illustrated by the red fire engine backed up against a red door. I've been tracking this symbolism for a long time, and have several posts on it. If you want to explore the symbolism surrounding the color red, read this and this)

Some interesting Gimple interviews
Q: So many main characters died in season 3. Was there a conscious decision on your guys’ part as you mapped out season 4 that you wanted to lessen the kill count a bit?
A: ...So it’s just in telling the stories and seeing where the stories go. You can do that in any episode and even in its least incarnation it has a great deal of power, but you shouldn’t lean on that power. And just in the stories we were telling this season, it really didn’t seem like our stories with these characters were leaning that way. They often do and there are plenty coming up. And I don’t even mean season 5, I mean season 6 and season 7.
Q: Scott, your first season as showrunner is in the books. What was the most valuable lesson you learned?
A: You can do irrefutably impossible things with the right amount of planning and support from intelligent and hardworking people and pizza.
Q: Season four explored the things people do to stay alive. What’s the theme of season five?
A: Are we too far gone to be people anymore, to actually be human beings, to be able to relate to one another on an emotional level, to be able to live a real humanistic and emotional life — are we too far gone? Next season really is who do we become after that? Once that question is answered for ourselves, who are these people? That idea will be explored a few different ways. Commentary from me: I think we will see Georgie again once Rick and crew prove that they are NOT too far gone. This was the same question Heath was talking about with Tara before the PPP card. I don't think we will learn what PPP is until that question is answered.
Q: This season was a remix of the comics. Will you continue with that approach in mind?
A: Absolutely. As we said during our first conversation, in “Pretty Much Dead Already” when Sophia comes out of the barn, that’s a remix. If we use verbatim from the comic, that’s awesome. And if we have to change it, that’s an opportunity to tie character and theme to it in different ways. There are ways we even chose to remix it, like with Lizzie and Mika, to find ways to take things that Robert did. He long played that [with Ben and his brother, Billy] in the comic, and we can do the same thing even a bit longer than he did it just because I liked the way he did it in the comic and I wanted to turn it up that much more.
Commentary from me: He says they can take a comic book storyline and really stretch it out and do it a whole lot longer than the comic dead. Ringing any bells? Issue 44 anyone?
Q: Of the ones that I've seen recently, including "Daryl" and "The Ones Who Live," they've been driven less by a sense of survival than a sense of hope. And this seems to be the case, particularly after the pandemic. I'm wondering if this notion influenced the shape that this show and "Daryl" have taken.
A: That's interesting. I feel that hope has been integral to the show all along. Granted, it was sort of, "We can find a safe place; we can actually live. We can do more than survive; we can live." But then you get pulled down by the things you have to do to survive.
Commentary from me: This just makes me think to Beth's diary entry monologue in Inmates.
Robert Kirkman on if the Walking Dead will ever have a cure ^^
And this more recent article contradicts Kirkman.

Emily also did Mangafest in Amsterdam 3/23/24
Some points worth mentioning (I'm watching this at work on closed captioning so some thing might have been misheard by the CC): 1) Randomly brings up the "very specific details like putting braids in her ponytail" (The comicbook Andrea hair)
2) Accidentally says "Ulan the costume designer, who still is the... I mean I don't know if she still is but I think for one of the shows" (side-eyeing the slip up there)
3) When she gets asked about her death, she keeps it short and sweet "It was a good gig. I was sad. It was a nice run. Yeah"
4) Her favorite scenes to shoot were Parting Glass with Lauren, and the porch conversation with Daryl (this is not TD point and just a cute tidbit I loved - the porch conversation is my favorite piece of dialogue in TV history). Cassady bringing up the snowball fight scene and learning that was a Norman improvisation is adorable too.
5) Some fan gives Emily a song title to write about "Life After Death" and the same fan was apparently talking to Cassady before the panel where he learned she hadn't had real Dutch cheese, so he gave her cheese.
6) Interviewer gives random tidbit of info that Billie Eilish's first song was based of the walking dead. It's called Fingers Crossed and it was released in 2015. Has some pretty interesting lyrics...
7) They talk about for a bit vinyl records because Emily does a lot of her special releases on vinyl records (they do some IG spotting). My confirmation bias brain though links it to Georgie and Slabtown of course.

Adding to Daryl's Age post
There is just no way Rick is in his 50s in TOWL, he looks fantastic. Rick is definitely older than Daryl (they've always have a older brother/younger brother vibe) in the show. This makes me think Daryl is no more than early 40s in the Daryl Dixon spinoff.

Ladybugs
Beth was place around ladybugs in season 4. 1) 4-spotted ladybug in her cell - Lady bugs with more than 7 spots indicate bad luck and bad harvest, while ladybugs with less than 7 spots indicate good luck and a good harvest.
2) She picked up a spotless ladybug in Still 4x12. Spotless ladybugs symbolize a blank slate and pending evolution, or phase of new growth. The represent personal transformation.
Ladybug Symbolism
A) Good luck
B) Fertility & Rebirth
C) Protection
D) True Love
E) Adaptability and metamorphosis

This is about Heath and the PPP card. I actually don't believe the PPP is part of the CRM and I don't believe Jadis is the one who took Heath. A Above, I attached a picture of what Jadis looked like in season 7, as well as a screencap of a blond woman you can see ushering Heath into the tarp on the bridge when Tara and Heath get separated. The fact that we see this woman before Heath comes out to help Tara shows me that whoever took him was nice enough to let him help Tara (I don't think Jadis would have let him help her). The woman is wearing a colored jacket, while the garbage people all wear black. The hair also looks nothing like Jadis, and is more a bleached blond.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSjMnMZGHR4 I think the PPP might actually be a group that is standing against the CRM, and not actually a part of it. I think this because, although I have not seen Tales, the Davon character had similarities to Beth in how he valued human life. I don't really believe that the CRM values life in this way, given they kill & experiment on people. This is assuming that Davon is part of the PPP and knows what it is, rather than having picked up the card in the same type of circumstances that Tara did.
TPTB reminded the audience of Beth and linked her to Heath at the beginning of the episode Swear 7x6 when Heath made a few very Beth-like comments. First, he mentioned how people use others. He also mentioned that they are just surviving, not living. Lastly, he said her last words verbatim "I get it now." Beth was linked directly to PPP in the Bulletproof Picasso video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNHJ7zz16bY
With this in mind, PPP might actually be Georgie's group, and PPP might actually be the Phillipians Prayer Model . Georgie first turned up in the episode called The Key, and all she asked for in return for the knowledge to build was records (Beth "It's been a long time since I heard a record" Slabtown 5x4).
"14 Do all things without grumbling or disputing, 15 that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, 16 holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain." Phillipians 2:14-16 This led me down the path of searching what a seahorse symbolizes in the Bible (due to the seahorse key Maggie used to find the Beth walker in the trunk of the car in 5x10 Them)
"God provides you with food and shelter, Jesus to swim through life with, and the promises of His Word to hold on to. Like the seahorse, you may sometimes have to hold on and wait for God to deliver His promises — but He always will, and at just the perfect time."
"A protective bony armour cleverly protects it from imminent danger. So strong is this armour that it is almost impossible to crush a dried dead seahorse in your hands. Its tough skeleton makes it unappetizing for predators, so seahorses are usually left alone." **I know Angela Kang said Jadis traded him, but I think there is a possibility that she was bluffing to throw the scent off a bigger reveal**

Thing I Can Make Out On The White Board:
1) The CRM is clearly planning to make a move on Portland. We know this because the map the promo shows, the top left says Portland and Post Operation, that latitude and longitude for Portland, Oregon are on the board. (Also, the World Beyond spinoff, which I have not watched)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2) I think the π symbol could be a reference to pizza or an implication that the story is now coming full circle.
3) RPED and marine - marine is a military branch and I think RPED can either stand for Respiratory Protective Escape Device or Rapid Prototyping Experimentation Demonstration. We know that the CRM has made devices to attack people with chlorine gas, we also know that they are performing experiments.
Tumblr media
4) Radio G7 Span and East of River - G7 is the Group of 7 that includes Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, UK, and the US. It is a government thing. I think this shows the widespread reach of the CRM. When I looked up East of River, it brought up Washington DC, as East of the River is a part of DC called the East End.
Tumblr media
5) Food Lines/Inventory Seeds RW 32.62527 - I can't put a whole lot of meaning to this beyond possibly trying to attack Portland's food supply, unless seeds are referring to their bomb capsules. Both the Seed stand and the seed mention made me think back to the season 3x1 Seed but that can just be a coincidence.
Tumblr media
6) Code 3362, FL/only - I haven't been able to find what code 3362 means, but I think FL means food lines OR front lines.
Tumblr media
7) Engage -> Assess -> Execute -> Reclamation -> PPP exception - I think this is just how they keep files on communities and document them. I am uncertain exactly what the PPP exception is, although I have made 2 posts on it. I think it means Power Projection Platforms in regards to what the CRM views as assets (A's who can be reformed the the CRMs benefit, and control military forces) or medically it refers to glycolysis and the Pentose Phosphate Pathway and how the body responds to methanol (metabolic acidosis).
Tumblr media
8) Echelon Exception - we are aware that there is something called the Echelon Briefing. We know that historically Echelon was a government surveillance program (which is similar to how the CRM knows about all these communities). We also know that Echelon literally means rung of a ladder or level.
Tumblr media
9) Intel / Rules / Contact Park - I cannot read anything that it says in between the section titles. I do know there was a character on Fear the Walking Dead: Dead on the Water (or something along those lines) named Park. That show was about the USS Pennsylvania (I think) going against its orders to fire up on Chicago.
Tumblr media
10) Refinery C2H5OH1 - The CRM is manufacturing ethanol. We know ethanol to be alcohol, the most concentrated form being moonshine. We know that if not made properly, it becomes methanol which is poisonous to the body because our body turns it into formaldehyde. I think this is why Beth says "bad moonshine can make you go blind" and I also think this is why Alone takes place in a funeral home. (I also think Alone took place in a funeral home to emphasize the fact that Beth did not get a funeral). I think this is Pharmakon, poison and cure coming full circle. Even in the episode Still, Peach Schnapps was a poison and Moonshine was the cure. (Daryl said Peach Schnapps is not good and Moonshine is a real first drink).
Tumblr media
This is just info, I can't really make the best sense of it all as I have no watched any of the spinoffs and haven't seen past Carl's death in the show. (My fiance and I are only on 5x7 of our rewatch)
