Proper Motivation
Rating: M
Tags: Established relationship, can be read as gender-swap or trans!Steve, spicy content
Written for the STWG prompt motivation:
"But I don't want to do my exercises. It hurts and it makes me hot and sweaty and not even in a fun way," Eddie whines, draping himself over the treadmill dramatically. "It sucks and I hate it."
This had been a near daily fight since Eddie had gotten out of the hospital. Despite the doctors insistence that the walking would help him regain the strength in his legs, Eddie was having none of it. He would whine and fuss and kick his feet like a toddler having a tantrum. Stevie is at her wit's end. She knew her boyfriend hated exercising but this was getting ridiculous.
"Baby, I know, but you need to do it so you can get your strength back. It's only for six weeks, and if you show improvement, you may not have to anymore," she tries, pitching her voice a little higher. It was like dealing with a child.
Which... maybe that was part of the problem. Maybe she was coming at this from the wrong angle. Time to switch tactics.
"Tell you want..." she purrs, which suddenly makes Eddie sit up straighter from where he was still lamenting on the treadmill. "For every hundred steps you do, I'll take off a piece of clothing. And once I'm naked, if you finish your allotted... I'll let you do whatever you want to me. How's that for motivation?"
"Anything?" Eddie asks eagerly. He gets to his feet and starts fiddling with the buttons on the treadmill.
"Anything we've done or already discussed."
Eddie's face goes a little pink. "Even the thing with your tongue?"
Stevie nods, delighted. "Even the thing with my tongue. Maybe I'll even ride you after, since you'll be so tired from being such a good boy."
Eddie gulps and she can hear the treadmill whir to life. He starts walking , shaky as he is, but now he's got a determined look on his face.
She can't not reward such good behavior. She pulls her t-shirt tight over her chest, her tits and the outline of her nipples practically visible through the thin material. It draws Eddie's attention down and she giggles when his eyes go wide watching her tits bounce. "Just a sneak peek," she teases.
Eddie keeps staring, mindlessly walking and following every single movement of her tits and hips.
She should have done this ages ago. "Keep it up, baby," she coos. Stevie thumbs at the hem of her shirt, pulling it up to reveal the tanned expanse of her stomach and the tiny little panties she's wearing, the one Eddie really likes to take off with his teeth. "Almost there."
Eddie moans, his steps faster, the tent forming in his sweats getting more and more visible.
Stevie just grins.

Tags: Meet Ugly, Steve and Dustin are brothers, pre-relationship
Written for the STWG daily drabble prompt: not a meet cute but a meet ugly
This is not at all how Steve pictured his Saturday going. He could be anywhere, instead, he’s standing in a comic book shop, fighting over a toy with another grown man who looks like he’s going to beat Steve over the head with it.
“Let go!” the guy yells, trying to tug the action figure out of Steve’s hands
“No, you let go!” Steve yells back, yanking it back. He has to give the guy props, though. He’s just as relentless as Steve is.
The guy sputters, an attractive shade of pink coloring his cheeks as his curly hair falls in his face. Wait, what? “Fuck off, why are you even here? Don’t you belong in a gym or something?”
Steve scoffs, still yanking. “Does it matter why I’m here? Just let go already!”
Dustin had been asking for this action figure for months now, talking about it and showing Steve newspaper clippings and TV commercials. Steve, being the good big brother he is, promised their mom that he would do his best to get it for him for his upcoming birthday. He’d be damned if he was going to let some punk, albeit a very attractive punk, take it away from him. Why did they only put three out on the shelf anyway?
They play tug of war for another few minutes, until the bewildered clerk, who had been watching their exchange, finally butts in and says, “Uh, I think I might have another one in the back? Can you wait here?”
They both nod, neither of them letting go of the toy. “I wish he would have said that in the first place,” Steve grouses, watching the clerk disappear behind a door. “Why they only put out a couple of copies of a toy I will never understand.”
It’s Hot Guy’s turn to sputter. “Toy? TOY? This, sir, is the limited edition statue of Kas the Betrayer that Wizard of the Coast put out to celebrate the anniversary of his DnD release! Not that you would care about any of that, you troglodyte.”
Steve has no idea what any of that means. “Oh, so that’s why Dustin wanted it. Makes sense now. He loves that guy.”
“Wait, it’s not for you?”
“Uh, no? It’s for my kid brother’s birthday. He loves that Dorks and Dragons game and he ran a Kas… uh… campaign? Last year? It was his first time. Kas is kind of a big deal to him.”
The other guy starts to look a little contemplative, but that’s when the clerk appears with another, much less rankled looking box. Steve immediately lets the one in his hands go and takes that one instead. “Thanks, man. I appreciate it.”
The clerk shrugs and heads back behind the counter. Meanwhile, Hot Guy tugs his hair in front of his face. “Uh, look. I’m sorry I said such shitty things over a toy. It’s just, Kas is kind of a big deal to me too. You could have just said.”
Steve waves him off. “No worries, I get it. But now we both have one.” He pauses and considers a second. It’s worth a shot. “You could make it up to me over lunch in the food court.”
Hot Guy’s eyes go wide. “Are you serious?”
Okay, wow. “Well, I was, but you can just say no, you don’t have to-“
“No, no, no!” Hot Guy says, waving his arms around, nearly dropping the box he fought so hard for. “No, I’d like that. Eddie,” he says, holding out a hand. That pretty pink flush is back. Steve kind of wants to see how far it goes down.
“Steve. Now let’s go, before any more wayward nerds decide they want to fight us over these.”
Eddie, dork that he is, bows and motions towards the cash register, “By your leave, my prince.”
Steve rolls his eyes. He always did like the nerdy ones.

I think a really good relationship dynamic is when one partner is an entirely absurd person and the other partner's perpetual thought process is, "I adore you. Why are you like this? I'm going to kiss you at such length and with such fervor that you'll get disoriented and stop being like this for five minutes and I can rest, for fuck's sake."

AO3 Comments are SO SO SOOOOOOO important because you can only leave Kudos ONCE. You add to the hit count ONCE (every 24 hours).
So whenever someone updates their fic, the ONLY way an author knows who their regular readers are is if they comment on each chapter. And we WANT to know who's still reading.
Believe it or not, some of us think about the name that pops up constantly in the comments and go "omg I can't wait to see what they think of THIS SPECIFIC SCENE cuz I KNOW they'll say something about it!!!"

Tags: Angst with A Happy Ending, Steve Harrington needs A Hug, Eddie Munson Gives Him One, Established Relationship
Summary:
The thing is, Steve has become convinced he’s cursed. Not like… Vecna cursed, or anything, just sort of doomed when it comes to love. He loves hard, falls fast, and it seems like no one else can keep up with him. He’s either too intense, or too much, or just isn’t what the other person is looking for. A placeholder. Someone to bide time with until something or someone better comes along. It’s been his fate ever since Nancy dumped him for Jonathon.
He’d thought Eddie was going to be the one, though. Two years they’ve been together and it’s been perfect. Eddie is everything Steve has ever wanted in someone to love; laughter, great sex, honesty, and someone who seems to love being in love as much as he does.
Or, so he thought.
(Or, the one where Steve has All the Feelings and doesn't know what to do about it, but it all works out in the end)

Screaming in Tune
Rating: T
Pairing: Steddie
Tags: Pre-Steddie, Came back wrong, mentions of Eddie's death, sort of unreliable narrator
Written for the daily drabble challenge over on the STWG: prompt was "Wanderlust"
This was heavily inspired by The Amazing Devil's Farewell Wanderlust which... well. Here it is.
-*-
Steve can feel it growing, inside of him. The itching need under his skin that he can’t figure out how to put a name to it. He just knows it’s tugging him, hooking underneath his navel, and making him long to be somewhere, find something.
He hasn’t said anything. Things are still tense, even weeks after their town split like a cored apple. At night, he can see the red glow against the darkness, and it calls to him. Maybe it’s from the wounds the demobats gave him, or just the poison of the Upside Down that has sunk into his bones. He doesn’t know, tries not to give too much thought to it. But it makes it really hard to concentrate when they’re gathered to plan out what they’re going to, how they’re going to take Vecna out for once and for all.
It gets worse when he lets his mind wander. Thoughts of getting up and walking out underneath the ash-filled skies until his feet crack and bleed are intrusive, constant. He thinks he can hear the whisper of something, a voice that tells him all kinds of things.
Come find me.
I’m here, waiting.
I’m waiting for you.
“Steve?”
He comes back to himself, looking between Nancy’s frown and Robin’s concerned eyes and Dustin’s fearful stare and it makes guilt gnaw at his insides. “Sorry, was lost in thought.
“Thought you got Vecna-ed,” Dustin murmurs, clinging to him. He’s been that way since… since…
Well, Steve can’t really blame him. Just like he’s sure they wouldn’t blame him for the itch in his bones, the need to find whatever is calling him that is slowly starting to consume his every single thought. “Nope, just spacey, you know that. One too many knocks to the head.” He presses his knuckles against Dustin’s temple just to make him laugh, even as he feels it creeping over him again.
Soft, like a lover. Demanding, like a child.
Come find me. Just walk away and come find me. I’m waiting for you.
That night, laying in his bed at home, he tosses and turns against the feeling burning inside his ribcage, making his legs tingle with the need to move. It’s calling again, that aching need inside of him that feels like an impossible siren song.
Steve is helpless to obey. He gets to his feet and starts to follow it, like an invisible trail of breadcrumbs that has been left just for him.
The feeling grows stronger with each step he takes, not sure where it’s going to take him. He follows along and lets the pull guide him, winding him through the trees and away from the town with hellfire creeping up and over the streets like demons trying to escape. It’s probably not too far off, considering what creatures of the Upside Down he’s seen.
His feet take him to Forest Hills and it isn’t until he sees the broken wood of the sign that it dawns on him. The pull is coming from the gate, the pulsing red center that sits where Eddie’s trailer used to be. The others lay like bones in a graveyard, old and dusty and abandoned now that most of the town has fled. Everything is faded black against that bright red spill of light.
He should turn around. He should call someone. He should forget that he even bothered to follow the call in the first place.
So many things he should do, but Steve knows exactly what he’s going to do.
He walks to the edge, right where the jagged edges of the gate has forced their way into this reality. It pulses and brightens when he gets close, like it recognizes him as an old friend. He reaches out, touches it and it feels warm and inviting. It wants him here, has been calling him for so long.
Steve barely has a moment to consider before a pale, black-clawed hand shoots out from the membrane of the gate, locking around his t-shirt and pulling him inside. No time to scream, no time to fight, just yanked through like he weighs nothing at all.
For the first time, he is afraid. Clearly this has been a trap, something lured him here to finish the job that the demobats started. Maybe it’s Vecna, maybe it’s something else.
When he’s through the gate, he falls to his knees, hard against the black dirt of the Upside Down. Everything is bathed in deep red and Steve shivers in the unnatural air. So, so stupid, he tells himself. Now he will die here and no one will know, he’ll never see Robin again and Dustin will be devastated, knowing he lost Steve too, and-
The same, black-clawed hand cups him under the chin, delicately, like he is something precious and worthwhile. Where he was expecting pain, he gets only gentleness. His head is tipped up and Steve forced himself to open his eyes against the soot and must of the Upside Down.
Eddie’s face stares back at him, grinning wide with too many teeth. Leathery black wings unfurl behind him, and the deep, black set of his eyes reminds Steve of the pieces of onyx Dustin showed him from his collection. It’s unnatural, sure, but the look on Eddie’s face is comforting in its familiarity. Steve can still see where the bats devoured him, jagged scars gray against the shock-white of Eddie’s skin. And yet, here he is, not human but not quite a monster either.
“Hey there, big boy. Did you miss me?”

In the spirit of encouraging people to comment on fanfics while also making it easier to do so, I feel obliged to share a browser extension for ao3 that has quite literally revolutionized the comment game for me.
I present to you: the floating ao3 comment box!
From what I've seen, a big problem for many people is that once you reach the comments at the bottom of a fic, your memory of it miraculously disappears. Anything you wanted to say is stuck ten paragraphs ago, and you barely remember what you thought while reading. This fixes that!
I'll give a little explanation on the features and how it works, but if you want to skip all that, here's the link.
The extension is visible as a small blue box in the upper left corner.
(Side note: The green colouring is not from the extension, that's me.)
Tumblr media
If you click on it, you open a comment box window at the bottom of your screen but not at the bottom of the fic. I opened my own fic for demonstrative purposes.
Tumblr media
The website also gives explanations on how exactly it functions, but I'll summarize regardless.
insert selection -> if you highlight a sentence in the fic it will be added in italics to the comment box
add to comment box -> once you're done writing your comment, you click this button and the entire thing will automatically copied to the ao3 comment box
delete -> self explanatory
on mulitchapter fics, you will be given the option to either add the comment to just the current chapter or the entire fic
The best part? You can simply close the window the same way you opened it and your progress will automatically be saved. So you can open it, comment on a paragraph, and then close it and keep reading without having the box in your face.
Comments are what keep writers going, and as both a writer and a reader, I think it's such an easy way of showing support and enthusiasm.

Weird Questions for Writers (because writers are weird)
1. What font do you write in? Do you actually care or is that just the default setting?
2. If you had to give up your keyboard and write your stories exclusively by hand, could you do it? If you already write everything by hand, a) are you a wizard and b) pen or pencil?
3. What is your writing ritual and why is it cursed?
4. What’s a word that makes you go absolutely feral?
5. Do you have any writing superstitions? What are they and why are they 100% true?

7. What is your deepest joy about writing?
8. If you had to write an entire story without either action or dialogue, which would you choose and how would it go?
9. Do you believe in ghosts? This isn’t about writing I just wanna know
10. Has a piece of writing ever “haunted” you? Has your own writing haunted you? What does that mean to you?
11. Do you believe in the old advice to “kill your darlings?” Are you a ruthless darling assassin? What happens to the darlings you murder? Do you have a darling graveyard? Do you grieve?
12. If a genie offered you three writing wishes, what would they be? Btw if you wish for more wishes the genie turns all your current WIPs into Lorem Ipsum, I don’t make the rules
13. What is a subject matter that is incredibly difficult for you write about? What is easy?
14. Do you lend your books to people? Are people scared to borrow books from you? Do you know exactly where all your “lost” books are and which specific friend from school you haven’t seen in twelve years still possesses them? Will you ever get them back?
15. Do you write in the margins of your books? Dog-ear your pages? Read in the bath? Why or why not? Do you judge people who do these things? Can we still be friends?
16. What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever used as a bookmark?
17. Talk to me about the minutiae of your current WIP. Tell me about the lore, the history, the detail, the things that won’t make it in the text.
18. Choose a passage from your writing. Tell me about the backstory of this moment. How you came up with it, how it changed from start to end. Spicy addition: Questioner provides the passage.
19. Tell me a story about your writing journey. When did you start? Why did you start? Were there bumps along the way? Where are you now and where are you going?
20. If a witch offered you the choice between eternal happiness with your one true love and the ability to finally finish, perfect, and publish your dearest, darlingest, most precious WIP in exactly the way you've always imagined it — which would you choose? You can’t have both sorry, life’s a bitch
21. Could you ever quit writing? Do you ever wish you could? Why or why not?
22. How organized are you with your writing? Describe to me your organization method, if it exists. What tools do you use? Notebooks? Binders? Apps? The Cloud?
23. Describe the physical environment in which you write. Be as detailed as possible. Tell me what’s around you as you work. Paint me a picture.
24. How much prep work do you put into your stories? What does that look like for you? Do you enjoy this part or do you just want to get on with it?
25. What is a weird, hyper-specific detail you know about one of your characters that is completely irrelevant to the story?
26. How do you get into your character’s head? How do you get out? Do you ever regret going in there in the first place?

29. Where do you draw your inspiration? What do you do when the inspiration well runs dry?

31. Write a short love letter to your readers.
32. What is a line from a poem/novel/fanfic etc that you return to from time and time again? How did you find it? What does it mean to you?

34. Thoughts on the Oxford comma, Go:
35. What’s your favorite writing rule to smash into smithereens?
36. They say to Write What You Know. Setting aside for a moment the fact that this is terrible advice...what do you Know?
37. If you were to be remembered only by the words you’ve put on the page, what would future historians think of you?

39. What keeps you writing when you feel like giving up?

Steve’s never noticed a man’s neck before. But he keeps catching glances of Eddie’s and can’t figure out why it’s doing things to him. Specifically his junk.
He assumes it’s because he’s jealous. Or maybe it’s just more prominent because of Eddie’s long hair?
But neither of those reasons explain why he wants to put his teeth in it.
“Rob, do you think I could have a delay in symptoms from those bats?”
“What do you mean? Do you think you finally got rabies? Steve, you were supposed to get that shot!”
“No, no. I did, that’s not it. No, but there are like bats that are vampires right? Could I be a vampire?” He raises his eyebrows in concern.
Robin, however, visibly relaxes and goes back to her book. They’re keeping each other company during another slow shift.
“No, you’re not a vampire.”
“How do you know? I mean, I kinda want to bite Eddie,” he says with such assurance.
“What?” Robin scrunches her face.
“Yeah, it’s bad.” He leans over the counter resting on his elbows. “Yesterday, when he stopped in after dropping the kids off, it took everything inside of me not to tip his head back and sink my teeth into the long muscle on his neck.”
“Ew, that is not… is that why you think you’re a vampire?”
“It’s the only thing that makes sense.”
“And-and not that you might be…? Oh my god,” she lowers her head into her hands. “I can’t believe I’m going to ask this. Do you also want to lick his neck? And I don’t know, maybe kiss it?”
Steve pauses, letting her question tumble around in his mind before responding.
“Yeah, yeah, I wanna do that too. Does that make me a vampire?” His voice raises in fear.
“No, dingus. No, it doesn’t,” she sighs. “I think it does make you the muppet in this situation though.”
Steve tilts his head trying to understand what she’s talking about, when the little bell above the door tinkles, drawing his attention.
Eddie saunters into the store while casually pulling his hair up into a ponytail.
“Hey!”
Steve zeros in on the taut neck muscle begging for Steve’s lips.
“Ohhhhh,” he whips his head back to Robin. “I want to fuck him.”

5 things your character can't do while speaking
Choke. Just think about it, seriously. Think about what choking is and imagine speaking while it’s happening. That would fuckin’ hurt, man.
Hiss. Look, it’s just not possible, okay? No matter how “evil” you want your character to seem.
Snarl. Animals snarls. The Beast from Beauty and the Beast snarls. The Hulk snarls. You know who doesn’t snarl? PEOPLE WHEN THEY’RE SPEAKING.
Shriek. Come on, 99% of the time, “shriek” is not the word you want.Let’s face it: if you put an exclamation point at the end of the sentence, your reader gets the picture. Don’t bring to mind banshees and screaming toddlers.
Sneer. I’m not even going to bother explaining this one. “SNEER” ISN’T EVEN A SOUND.
