it’s canon, in the book, that the Curtis family attended church (as did most families in the 60s, especially in the south) however all I can imagine is those three brothers not being able to take a damn thing serious.

they’d be silently cackling with each other the entire time; and I mean, red in the face, tears in their eyes, swatting each other to shut the other up, trying their upmost best not to laugh in the middle of a sermon. Their dad would be unfazed, however, their mom would give them the coldest glares— the typical warning, fuck around and find out, mom glare.

of course this would probably make them silently lose their shit more. And it would start over the stupidest things— The priest messing up and stumbling over his words, getting bored and finding the most out of context verse from the bible and showing it to them just to stir things up— shit like that.

because I know damn well (from personal experience), church is one big game of seeing who can laugh the quietest when in the middle of church.

everyone talks about pony being suicidal but what about darry? like he’s twenty. twenty! like he’s freshly out of his teenage years and he already works two jobs, pays bills, pretty much owns a house, has to cook and clean for his brothers and a lot more. obviously that takes a mental toll. and in throwing in the towel in the musical he mentions that maybe pony and soda would be better off without him and that maybe he should just walk out. now i know that’s not solid evidence but i guess i could make a case.

i dunno. people forget that he’s twenty, like he can’t drink in the us legally (well…maybe he could in the 60s but i’m talking about modern times)
