Hello all!! Apologies for the radio silence, I hope everyone's doing well! I've had a crazy time moving out and beginning university. I'm so excited to finally share this ACOTAR commission for Chest of Fandoms' (@chestoffandoms on instagram) monthly book box! It's been far too long since I've drawn Rhys, Cassian and Azriel all together ✨✨

Saying Gwyn is a lightsinger and that Azriel and his shadows are attracted by her power is not the bold statement that some of you think it is, when not only is the literal principle of the mating bond "like calls to like", but mates are shown to be attracted by each others powers more than once.
When Feyre is confused about how she could be mated to Rhysand, this is what the Suriel says:
He questions whether it doesn't make sense for her, who was something new made by part of all the seven high lord's powers, to be mated with the most powerful high lord of all. The Suriel justfies Rhysand and Feyre to be mates because they matched/were similar in power.
Then we have Cassian and Nesta:
When Cassian sees Nesta's eyes glow, his siphons react to it, by lighting up. He proceeds to say:
Cassian tells Nesta her power was a song he waited a long time to hear. This makes it obvious that Cassian also longed for Nesta's power, amongst other things. So, power played a part in their attraction to each other as well.
The moment Lucien pulls the string of his mating bond with Elain is followed by Nesta asking her what she needs, for which she answers "sunshine". Lucien's power is light, and his father is seen as a representation of the sun. Even without knowing about Lucien's powers, she still seems to be drawn to them. His spellcleaver powers (which we never seen before that instant) were too activated while he was trying to protect her from Hybern.
The connection between the meaning of "like calls to like" and power is brought up again in acosf by Gwyn herself, once Nesta says the cauldron imparted some of his power to her:
We can conclude that by following the meaning of "like calls to like", mates do react/are attracted by each other's powers. So, stating Azriel/his shadows (who are literally his powers) are attracted to Gwyn's own, does not make the point some of you guys believe, because power attraction is literally part of mating bonds.
