i watched one episode of death note and this show is soooo funny for opening on skull demon guys and youre like oh shit its the evil freaks and then theyre just like chilling playing cards. and then you meet your mild mannered middle schooler boy protag and hes like i want to kill everyone forever

The thing about writing a fic where you are trying to give Thomas Thorne character growth is that you have to reckon with the fact that he's all character flaws with little to no redeeming qualities.

Just finished Alice in Borderland (the manga) and I am sobbing. Been reading it as it came out in English and now I don't know what to do with myself, it's been such a big part of my life the last while.

Time to watch the show I guess.

AITA for marrying my best friends girlfriend after he "died?"

So I [M35] have been best friends with a boy, let's call him R, since we were children. I worked as a servant in his house, but he always treated me like an equal. As we grew older, we became more distant. He started hanging out with another boy, let's call him H, and started dating a girl, let's call her A.

A was a very sweet girl. R loved her very much and they were very happy together. I did have a tiny crush on her, but my friendship with R was more important. H was ok I guess. When we were 17, R and H went on some kind of adventure into some old ruins near our village. However, only H came back. He said that R had fallen and died in the tunnel.

To say I was heartbroken was an understatement. R was my everything. I refused to believe he was dead. H soon left the village, so it was just me and A. We got very close as she also believed R was still alive. However, her parents began pressuring her to marry a rich man. I thought the best option would be for us to fake our marriage. That way we could still wait for R together. She agreed and became my "wife."

Fast forward 18 years and this man in a mask has started terrorizing the city I built. He's been doing impossible things, like turning people into stone and making paintings come alive. I'm 99% sure this man is R and he's angry with my for marrying his girlfriend. My wife has also started acting differently. For the first time in our marriage, she's been trying to get intimate with me and keeps asking questions about some "mask of order." Also H is back for some reason.

Was I in the wrong for pretending to marry A? I only did it to keep her safe for R.

thinking about how in the show, grace went from no intimacy to full intimacy (to save the world) which, when we all think about it post-canon, is not a safe sexual experience and would take a lot out of her and she's still reeling from that in ddmd. but that would have been what she was expected to do anyway, just within marriage. she would have been expected to go instantly and fully into a sexual relationship and penetrative sex. like her shame wouldn't have gone away just because she was married. there's still the teaching of virginity and holiness. but, if we take the ending of abstinence camp, she wouldn't have been still accepted if she continued down that route of celibacy. because smth smth role of the wife and mother. my point is, both endings for grace are like allegorical models of toxic evangelical christian purity culture and, even if you do everything "right", you won't feel right bc the sexual shame is pervasive beyond any action you can choose.
