I know! Gingerplum reminds me of Bellamione a bit! Ginger being the kind sensible Hermione and Sugar being the cruel obsessive Bella, haha!
Have you read the book, by the way? MarieXPlum is tangible there!:D I especially liked the part when Sugar wanted to follow Marie into the real world to bring her back to the Realms - but changed her mind at the last possible moment (she was afraid she'd perish there, turn into a doll, that is) and decided to focus on revenge instead. Bringing Marie back would still have been a selfish act, but at least the scene shows that Sugar was prepared to make sacrifices for the sake of her love for Marie. And that is something that makes Sugar a tiny bit similar to Ginger, since Ginger literally sacrificed her own realm and agreed to live a miserable and lonely life in the abandoned 4th realm just to be loyal to Marie and not to declare war on Sugar and other regents.
Is Gingerplum even shippable?
Frankly, when I first saw the movie I didn’t think these two were a feasible ship. Then I came across @sapphicplxm’s sweet drabbles, mmm, tempting! So I went to the cinema again – and again, these two just HATED each other. To the point of the ship being creepy. But I didn’t give up, I bought the novel based on the movie script, this one:

(I have the local translated edition but I don’t think it differs much. Will find out when the US edition I ordered arrives to my postbox.)
The pros of the novel: it tells the story of Marie as well, not only Clara. I wish the movie did the same. Anyways, I read the book, and guess what, Ginger and Sugar HATED EACH OTHER all the way through it. Not even trying to be friendly! Sugar is the image of selfishness, while Ginger is cold and somewhat heartless (well, we know she does have a heart, but she’s all about duty and responsibility).
So I could easily imagine Ginger having warm feelings for Sugar deep inside, but never for a minute I could imagine Sugar being sincerely affectionate to… anyone! The only person she loved was Marie, and Marie is dead and gone, leaving a void of hatered in Sugar’s heart.
I honestly can’t ship a character who is so helplessly selfish – because any positive character development will inevitably make her OOC. And what’s the point of shipping if you can’t eventually make your ship a happy one? By the looks of it, if I even tried writing a fan fic without Sugar going OOC, she would be manipulative and abusive to Ginger, and eventually, um, murder everyone. Haha.
And then, a couple of days later, it dawned on me.  [If you count the book as canon] Sugar did love Marie, and she was at least capable of being a tiny bit less selfish when she felt Marie’s love. So perhaps the problem with her and Ginger was that Ginger never ever tried to be affectionate to Sugar, Ginger was always the strict motherly figure, one who tells you what’s right and what’s wrong without a trace of emotion and sympathy. Also, I think Ginger was going to try to be sincerely friendly to Sugar when they first met but Sugar was so hostile that Ginger clammed up deciding that being nice with Sugar was merely her duty.
Here we have it, room for improvement for both characters! So yes, in the end, I think the ship is feasible! And by the word “ship” I mean not only romance, but generally any nice character interaction that doesn’t lead to homicide. :D
