The Life of Dominique “Dom” Molly Weasely-age 15 in epilogue
Tumblr media
Face Claim-Freya Mayor
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dominique, who exclusively went by Dom, looked the most like a Weasley out of her siblings. She had long red hair and blue eyes.  She got along best with her father, they shared the same adventurous spirit that would sometimes get the both of them in trouble. Sometimes she felt like she lived in her sister’s shadow. While they both had 1/8 Veela in them, Victoire always seemed to be prettier than her. Although she later got over that jealously, after Vic was attacked, and realize that almost losing her sister put her whole world into perspective.  She loved her little brother and she often pushed him to the edge of his comfort zone. Because what was life without a little adventure. Dom could almost always be seen carrying some version of a camera. She loved catching little moments and look back on them. From the time she was 8, she was almost always in charge of taking pictures at the Wotter family get togethers. While she got along well with James and Fred, she always felt like she never fit in with any one group of Wotter cousins. Vic and Teddy had each other. James and Fred were two years younger than her and usually were conducting their next prank. Molly was too strait-laced that it didn’t fulfill her need to explore and do things. So she was very excited to go to Hogwarts to be able to meet people her own age. When she got to the sorting hat, the hat said he could tell she had a taste for adventure but was also creative with her photography. She ended up being a hatstall between Gryffindor and Ravenclaw. Dominique begged the hat to put her in Gryffindor as she didn’t want to be considered “Vic’s little sister.” The hat promptly placed her in Gryffindor. She quickly became friends with Luke Jackson and Hannah Michaels-two muggleborns and Connor Finnegan-Thomas, the adopted son of Seamus and Dean Finnegan-Thomas. But it was actually a Hufflepuff named Melanie Days that became her best friend. They had herbology together, which she was completely rubbish at, and Melanie had saved her finger from being snapped off by an offended plant. From that day forward, you often could not find one without the other. They shared the same love of adventure, exploring, spontaneity, and kindness. They also were quite interesting to look at with Dom’s red hair and blue eyes compared to Melanie’s dark brown hair and eyes and tan skin. You could often find them in the library with Dom’s head in Melanie’s lap reading about the book, on the outskirts of the lake talking about all the things they wanted to do during the summer, or in each other’s dormitories eating snacks from the kitchen.  Slowly, as boys were brought up more and more in conversation as Dom grew older, she soon began to realize that her romantic feelings were towards girls. Realizing she was a lesbian, Dom buried that part of her deep down for fear of how her family and friends would react. Everything changed though when Vic got attacked and she realized that people needed to live their life for themselves and not everybody else. The first person she told was Melanie, who to her surprise, laughed and kissed her on the lips. It was like it unlocked a part of Dom that she failed to realize-that she was in love with her best friend. Melanie stated that she had figured out she was gay and had fallen in love with Dom but didn’t want to risk their friendship. Once Dom came out to her, Melanie couldn’t hide her feelings any longer. The two stayed up to the early hours of the morning talking (and kissing). Dom didn’t know that she could feel this alive. Thankfully her family and friends all took the news very well, with a lot of the cousins saying that they already had guessed based on how Melanie and Dom interacted with each other. For the next two years at Hogwarts the two continued to date. After Hogwarts they moved into a house in wizarding village as Melanie began her healer training and Dom worked as a professional photographer both for muggles and wizards/witches. Melanie asked Dom to marry her after she graduated from healer training on a celebratory vacation to France. They then had two children. A son named William “Will” Michael and a daughter, Hazel Elizabeth.
The Life of Frank Neville Longbottom-age 16 in epilogue
Tumblr media
Face Claim-David Lambert
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Frank had his father’s dark brown hair and mother’s green-blue eyes. Even though he was the older brother, his sister was a spitfire, and nobody often noticed the taller boy in the background. He grew up above the Leaky Cauldron with his dad coming on weekends, holidays and during the summer to live with them when he wasn’t teaching at Hogwarts.  He and his dad both shared a love for herbology and had there very own greenhouse behind the leaky cauldron. His dad and mum often described him as the calm to his sister’s storm as he was usually the one to talk her down when she was angry. He could be clumsy at times and turned red as a beet when he almost tipped the boat over until he recognized the pretty red headed Weasley offering him a hand. Like Molly, he didn’t grow up with a lot of other children to hang out with and was a quiet boy by nature. The sorting hat didn’t even say a word before yelling Ravenclaw across the great hall. Molly and Frank’s favorite place was the library where he would often sneak glances at her when she wasn’t looking. While they both went on dates with other serious, nothing ever turned serious. When they were at the Wotter Christmas party, James locked them in a broom closet together with a mistletoe. Both of them stood their awkwardly with James shouting that he wouldn’t let them out until they finally snogged. Frank, with his 6’5 frame bent over to the 5’2 Molly and kissed her. It was like the breath went out of both of them and a gentle warmth spread throughout Frank. From that time on, they started dating. Like a lot of their relationship, it didn’t really require much talking it just naturally formed. When Madam Rosmerta offered him the Three Broomsticks, Frank was delighted as he had always enjoyed business and loved that he would get to be close to Molly as she could come home every night to Hogsmeade. It devastated Frank when Molly suffered miscarriage after miscarriage, and he cried as she brought their daughter into the world. Nellie would grow up to have Molly’s red hair and dark brown eyes. She was sorted into Ravenclaw and worked as a crime analyst for the auror department. While he worried that she was working in a dangerous job, he supported her every step of the way. Molly and Frank eventually retired and settled in a small home located on the outskirts of Hogsmeade and enjoyed the Hogwarts children running past their window.

The Life of Molly Audrey Weasley-age 16 in the epilogue
Tumblr media
Face Claim: Nadia Alexander
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Molly had her father’s red hair, although it wasn’t quite as bright and her mother’s dark brown eyes. Molly was very much like her father in that she was a strict follower of the rules, introverted, and often preferred being alone then in a large group. Her father was head of the Transportation of Magic and would often take her to his office, so she would often sit quietly drawing pictures or reading a book. Her sister, Lucy and her were very different. It’s not that they didn’t get along but there was six years apart and their personalities greatly differed, but they did both have a great love of books. Since her father often took her to work with her, she didn’t grow up with many friends her age which made her a bit of an awkward child and she and her sister often were on the outskirts of the Wotter cousin clan get togethers. Eventually, she became closer to Victoire and When she first got to Hogwarts, her boat was almost tipped over by Frank Longbottom who had tripped getting into the boat. She had met Frank briefly throughout the years, but never really talked to the young boy. Frank was so embarrassed, but she immediately offered a silent hand to him, ignoring the muffled laughter behind her. That was the day that they became best friends. When it was her turn to get sorted, she knew she didn’t want to be in Gryffindor, even though it was her father’s house, she wanted to create her own path. To her surprise, the hat debated between sending her to Slytherin or Ravenclaw-stating she was ambitious, but also clever. Molly was astonished but begged the hat to put her in Ravenclaw because she couldn’t imagine what her father would say if she was in Slytherin. The hat shouted Ravenclaw to her relief. She was welcomed by her older cousin Victoire. Frank soon joined her to her delight. The two could often be found in the library studying, talking about their shared interests, or simply enjoying time together spent in silence. It was no surprise to anyone (except to maybe themselves) when finally a prank by James caused them to kiss under the mistletoe in 6th year and the two finally started dating. There love was a lot different in that it was quiet, gentle, and like a slow burn of a candle. The two got married in a ceremony in a vineyard. Molly worked as the school librarian and Frank took over the Three Broomsticks from Madam Rosmerta. They lived in Hogsmeade above the Three Broomsticks much like Frank had when he was growing up. Unfortunately, Molly had troubles getting pregnant and had several miscarriages. Eventually she had a daughter they named Nellie Persephone Longbottom after the people they looked up to the most. Lucy and Victoire were name godparents of their little girl. Molly doted on Nellie and the two were very close.
The Life of Victoire “Vic” Apolline Weasley-age 17 in the epilogue
Tumblr media
Face Claim: McKenna Knipe
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Victoire hated having a nickname, but almost no one outside of her family could pronounce it, but as soon as Teddy started calling her Vic she started disliking it just a little bit less. Teddy was her best friend pretty much since they were in diapers. Fleur tried to send her to Beauxbatons but she absolutely refused and gave her mother the silent treatment for a week because there was no way she would go to a school without Teddy, until her father finally convinced her mother to agree to send her to Hogwarts. She was the closest out of her siblings to her mother and often got advice from her, went shopping together, and went most often to visit her grandparents in France. Out of her siblings, she was the most proficient in French. Dom and she disagreed on most things so they often didn’t get along when they were younger-but after they both graduated, they became closer and soon you could often find one or the other at each other’s places. Victoire loved Louis, but he was much younger than her so they often had trouble finding things in common-but make no mistake-if anyone tried to hurt Louis, Vic would stop at nothing to protect him. Vic cried when Teddy left for Hogwarts and it took her a month to stop moping around the house. When Victoire got to Hogwarts, much like Teddy had two years prior, had assumed she would be sorted into Gryffindor. Much to her surprise, the hat almost immediately placed her in Ravenclaw before even she could barely speak. The hat stated her creativeness, desire to learn new things, and her passion for things she cared about it would put her no where else but Ravenclaw. After the sorting hat shouted Ravenclaw, it took a minute for anyone to clap as everyone was shocked that a Weasley had been sorted anywhere else but Gryffindor. She soon found out that was where she belonged as she thrived with the challenge of getting into the common room, made friends with fellow Ravenclaws-a muggleborn Mallory Atkinson and Riley Finnegan-Thomas (the adopted daughter of Seamus Finnegan and Dean Thomas). Vic struggled making any other friends as many girls were jealous of her because of her natural beauty enhanced by her Veela heritage and boys often just wanted to be her boyfriend. Teddy, even being in different houses, remained her best friend. They often found time to sit in the kitchens, explore the Shrieking Shack, and since Vic never really had an interest in Quidditch either would often join Teddy by the lake with her favorite book. While Vic had plenty of admirers, Victoire realized by the age of 13 that she was in love with her best friend Teddy Lupin. At that time, Teddy was dating his friend and housemate Amy and was positive that Teddy had no interest in her. She continued to focus on her school work and continued to support Teddy as a friend. (WARNING POTENTIAL TRIGGER) By the age of 15, many were shocked that she had not gotten a boyfriend yet, including some of her own cousins. When she was on her way back from a late night at the astronomy tower finishing an assignment, she was cornered by a 7th year Gryffindor boy named Alex Powers-despite being in Gryffindor was an absolute jerk. He forced himself on her and then beat her with an inch of her life. She woke up later in the hospital wing with Teddy’s hand in hers and asleep in a chair next to her bed. When she woke up, she had to account the awful story to Headmistress McGonagall and some aurors (thankfully Harry had the foresight to not assign himself to the case). Alex Powers was charged and expelled from Hogwarts. All the boy cousins soon found out where Alex Powers was hiding out at and gave him the same sort of beating he gave her. After she recovered, and Teddy had not left her side for a minute, Teddy confessed that he was in love with her(he had broken up with his girlfriend Amy shortly after the incident and Amy revealed to Vic that she realized Teddy and her was better off as friends) but knew that she may have not be ready for a relationship with all that had happened. For the first time, Vic was happy since the incident and they kissed. They took the physical parts of the relationship very slow, but Victoire was always happier when had Teddy by her side. Victoire struggled with what she wanted to do post-Hogwarts until in her 7th year Teddy had found her offhand stories that she often wrote in class mindlessly. He took them to a book editor and immediately the editor was interested in more. After Teddy proposed, they moved just down the road from her parents’ house at Shell Cottage and many of her stories pertained to the beach. Most of her stories were children’s book, and she got many acclaims as an author.  With Teddy’s hectic schedule it was nice to be able to work from home and raise her children at the same time.  Their children Remy, Andi, Tonks, and Nick were all incredibly unique in their own way. Remy was born with her blonde hair and Teddy’s dark brown eyes and was a mommy’s boy through and through. He was sorted into Hufflepuff like his father and became an artist. Andi was a tom boy, much to her frustration some of the time since she was her only girl, but gradually adjusted to her daughter’s ways. Andi was the spitting image of her great-grandmother with curly dark brown hair and dark brown eyes. Andi was placed in Gryffindor and became an Auror like her father. Tonks was the quietest and most inquisitive of her children and his favorite activity was building sandcastles at the beach. He had her blonde hair, blue eyes, and freckles and looked the most like her out of her children. He was sorted in Ravenclaw and became an architect. Their surprise child Nick was the most rambunctious of the bunch and was the only metamorphmagus out of her children-he favored pink hair but his natural features were blonde hair with hazel eyes. He was sorted into Gryffindor and continued Weasley Wizard Wheezes with some of his other cousins once his great uncle George retired. Nick brought in a whole new line featuring color changing products and pranks. Teddy and Vic often enjoyed the beach days with their children and eventual grandchildren. Teddy and Vic both died of old age, with Victoire passing one day after Teddy dies.

The Life of Edward “Teddy” Remus Lupin-age 19 in the Epilogue
Tumblr media
Face Claim: Brenton Thwaites (Teddy with his natural hair and eye color)
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Teddy was a metamorphmagus like his mother-his go to hair color was a teal color, but if often changed with his mood. Naturally (which was only usually seen when he was sick or sad) was a sandy brown color and dark brown eyes. He was often stated that without the metamorphmagus abilities he was a spitting image of his father. He grew up with his grandmother, Andromeda, but was almost a permanent figure in the Weasley-Potter household (or as many of the cousins called it-the Wotters). He visited the Potters on the weekends and was at Shell Cottage at least three times a week to have play dates with Victoire. Andromeda knew it was important for Teddy to hang out with children around his age, so often you could find Fleur and Andromeda sipping tea while Teddy and Victoire-and later Dominique and Louis as they grew older playing on the beach. Victoire was his best friend growing up as the two oldest in the Wotter clan (he made himself an honorary member). As far as his relationship with Harry, Ginny and the Potter children-Harry and Ginny told him stories of his parents that his Gran often struggled with telling because it was too painful for her. He was just as protective of Lily as James and Albus were and before he went off to Hogwarts, often acted as a buffer between the two brothers. When he went to Hogwarts, he had assumed he would be sorted into Gryffindor as his father has been and all the Weasleys have historically been placed there. But when he had the sorting hat placed on his head, the sorting hat stated that his big heart, compassion, and willingness to help everyone strongly favored his mother’s characteristics balanced by the loyalty he inherited from his father-and that is what placed him in Hufflepuff. He made friends with Oliver “Olly” Wood-son of Oliver Wood and Katie Bell-a Gryffindor just as enthused with Quidditch as his father and a muggleborn Hufflepuff named Amy James. Many people thought he didn’t play Quidditch due to the fact that he was almost as clumsy as his mother-but the true reason is that he was afraid of heights. You would very rarely see Teddy in the stands of a Quidditch game, you would often find him reading a book next to the almost empty lake. He really only had two serious relationships though. The first was with his best friend Amy James-he felt like he was in love with her until Vic got attacked and he felt a rage so powerful that he suddenly realized he had been in love with his childhood friend all along. They started dating just shortly before he graduated from Hogwarts and when Vic was in her 5th year. With Vic still being in school, and Teddy busy with auror training, it made having a relationship exceedingly difficult, but they stayed together through it all. Teddy proposed to Vic at her graduation party from Hogwarts. They got married the next summer at the beach where they spent all those years together. They had a small wedding (as small as you can get with all the Wotter clan present) and had their honeymoon in France. A couple years later, after Victoire had established her career, she became pregnant with a boy they named Remus “Remy” William Lupin after their fathers. Two years later they had a daughter named Andromeda “Andi” Fleur Lupin, Teddy highly debated giving her the name Nymphadora, but since his mother despised it so much, he and Victoire decided against it and when they had another boy three years later gave him the name Tonks Harry Lupin as his name and the name his mother went by for the majority of people.  They had thought they were done having children but five years later, a surprise pregnancy led to their final child they named Dominic “Nick” Louis Lupin.
New Stories
Hi! Hello! So I will be working on some new stories for the next generation that I will be posting throughout these next week or so. I did some earlier, but have expanded on a lot of my ideas and had some changes of perspectives of some of the characters. Included will be a short paragraph about their life, a face claim of an actor/actress that I imagine them to look like, and their age in the epilogue so it gives a sort of timeline of when I think they would be in Hogwarts at this time. If anyone would like more detail, short stories, or fanfiction written about them, please let me know as I would like to write more in my free time.
can you sort the teen wolf kids into hogwarts houses?
oh, Hogwarts sorting is my favorite and least favorite thing to do. I love it, but I take it too seriously, and now you’ll have to listen to me ramble for one hundred years. your fault, anon.
Scott is either a Gryffindor or a Hufflepuff. both houses are determined by loyalty, determination, honesty and hardheadedness, but Gryffindors are also very proud and too rash and reckless, while Hufflepuffs are humble, gentler and prefer to do things slowly and carefully. in this AU, particularly, I imagined him as a Gryffindor, and if you had asked me during s01, I wouldn’t have doubted to place him with the lions. but the Sorting Hat sees potential, and I’m sure it would have been able to see the potential, and by the end of s03 I think Scott is really leaning a lot more towards Hufflepuff.
Stiles is either a Slytherin or a Gryffindor. he shares from the two houses many traits: pride, ambition, loyalty only to those he cares about, strong ideals, a hunger for recognition. he’s got Gryffindor recklessness and wants to be a hero, and he’s definitely got a lion’s short temper and impulsiveness. on the other hand, Gryffindor’s are bleeding hearts at their core, too honest for their own good. Stiles is a liar, he’s cunning like the best Slytherin, he has little regards for the means if it means he’ll get what he wants. but also, I think he’s prejudiced and he really wants to be a good person, he’s just not good at it. so he probably would dislike house Slytherin and aspire to be a Gryffindor, and let’s remember that the Hat does care about what each kid wants.
Allison is definitely a Gryffindor. [I drafted this post and forgot about it and I’m so sorry, now I’m back!] I will literally fight whoever says otherwise, because Allison has everything that makes a Gryffindor. she’s proud and headstrong, she’s impulsive and brave, she can be reckless, she can be angry. where Scott puts his body on the line of fire as a shield, she puts her body in the line of fire as a weapon. she values strength, loyalty and bravery over anything else.
Lydia is either a Ravenclaw or a Slytherin. just like with Stiles, I think it would be her choice what would tip the hat into picking a house. I imagine Lydia in the magical world as a muggleborn, really, because I want her mixing muggle chemistry with magical potions and balancing muggle and magical medicine and probably combining occlumency with probability-analysis software. basically, I imagine she would hear that her status as a muggleborn is still side-eyed in Slytherin, and she would get so pissed off she would ask the hat to send her there. she would become social queen, kick ass, take names, never allow anyone to step on her. but, really, she’s got everything to be on either house. she’s got Ravenclaw’s appreciation for knowledge after all, but Slytherin’s hunger for recognition. she’s got Ravenclaw’s propensity towards creative thinking and great imagination, but Slytherin’s cunning to put those to good use. the  leadership skills are Slytherin, the ambition and pride could place her in both.
Kira, my angel baby, is a Gryffindor. I would have said Hufflepuff during the first episodes, but then girl came and was super excited about breaking-and-entering for the first time and then decided she wanted to get into a fight with some ass-kicking demons because she ‘trusted that she could use a katana’ without any training so, yeah. that is Gryffindor, the bravery and the recklessness and the undying loyalty developed in a short span of time. she’s fiercely moral, she likes danger, she doesn’t necessarily care for rules, she stands up for the people she cares even to her own family. that is a lion to me.
Danny ‘got arrested for hacking into a national security system at 13 y/o' Mahealani is 100% a Slytherin. boy knew about werewolves but instead of going out and risking his life, he used the knowledge to cover his own ass, probably protect his family and try to help Lydia from a safe distance. he got a hot boyfriend who he probably lied to as much as the hot boyfriend lied to him, and I’m sure Danny always had the upper hand in that relationship. basically, from the little we got to see of actual development, we know that Danny is smart and cunning and not always uses his skills for the most moral ends, that he’s terribly loyal to his best friend but doesn’t particularly care for anyone else, that he’s well liked by almost everyone, that he’s sarcastic and funny and really likes winning.
Boyd is totally a Ravenclaw. he has bravery, sure. he has a big deal of ambition. he’s loyal and hard-working, too. but, to this day, of all the little Boyd-moments we got, the ones I have forever ingrained into my mind is the pride he shows when his intelligence is acknowledged, how damn smart he is. he likes that intelligence being recognized, and he likes succeeding in general, but he doesn’t have slytherin’s level of ambition nor isn’t as rash and violent as gryffindors can be.
Erica is a Slytherin through and through. ambitious, cunning, proud, deadly and loyal to the end to her few friends. as soon as she’s got a little power, she clings to it, she isn’t afraid to use it, to take advantage of it. she’s relentless and can be violent or sexual if she wants to, but it’s to achieve her ends.
Isaac is a Gryffindor like no other Gryffindor. he cares for like, four people, but for those four people he will kill and he will die if needed. he’s vain and hotheaded and reckless and violent; but he cares a lot and feels a lot and isn’t too good at hiding it.
I could probably go on and sort Jackson (Slytherin), Derek (Gryffindor), Melissa (Hufflepuff or Gryffindor), Kali (Gryffindor), Deaton (Ravenclaw), Marin (Slytherin), Jennifer/Julia (Gryffindor/Slytherin) and, ugh, I love house-sorting. but you’re gonna punch me in the face and I don’t want that. lots of kisses, nonie!
Why Ron/Hermione Argue
As some people might already know about me, I’ve never been one to shy away from a good debate. That’s a trait that I share with Hermione.
There are some people who don’t particularly like arguing or disagreeing. Some people genuinely do. Hermione falls into the second category, and since I do as well, I wanted to try to explain what’s up with all of the arguing between her and Ron.
I don’t think there are that many people who would say that she isn’t an argumentative person by nature. In addition to Ron/Harry, Hermione clashes with Lavender over her rabbit, Luna over her theories, Umbridge over Ministry rules, Snape over the lesson plans for Lupin’s DADA class, Professor Trelawney over Divination, Parvati over Divination, Draco over Hagrid/Buckbeak, etc. And she argues with everyone about house-elves. Hermione is argumentative, and that’s how she prefers it.
Hermione finds it intellectually stimulating to argue, and needs someone who’s going to argue right back.
Genuine Friendship
Hermione is not the sort of person who’s afraid of being the person reading the book while everyone else is having fun. When she fights with Harry/Ron in PA, she doesn’t buddy up with Lavender/Parvati or apologize to the boys just to have someone to sit with at lunch. She sits by herself in the common room and goes it alone. In other words, Hermione is not the kind of person who chooses a bad friend over no friend at all.
If she did not enjoy spending time with Ron, she would have no problem sitting on the other side of the common room reading a book while waiting for Harry to return. And yet, we constantly see her in Ron’s company, even when Harry’s not around.
In every book after CS, she arrives the Burrow/Leaky Cauldron/Number 12 before Harry does. Harry takes it for granted that Ron and Hermione will be sitting together when he shows up in the common room, but that’s not a small thing. In PA, the two of them return from Hogsmeade “looking as though they’ve had the time of their lives.”
Despite how much they fight, it’s very clear that Hermione genuinely enjoys spending time with Ron.
Comfort with Conflict
Harry was raised by the Dursleys, and sees arguing and conflict as associated with strife. He also doesn’t feel comfortable expressing his emotions, so he tends to bottle things up until they explode.
Hermione frequently nags Harry, which Harry does not particularly appreciate. He basically has three strategies when being nagged by Hermione. The first is avoiding/ignoring her, the second is lying to her, and the third is exploding at her. Examples of the first and second include occulmency, sneaking into Hogsmeade, his doubts over Dumbledore’s past, the egg clue, his homework, his feelings about Ron’s absence, Voldemort’s visions in DH, his grades, etc.
Nagging is simply Hermione’s style, and while she might learn to tone it down, it’s always going to be part of who she is.
When he can’t lie/avoid/ignore, Harry will explode at Hermione. At which point the balance of power tilts sharply toward Harry. When Harry explodes, Hermione crumples. She will cry, shrink back, speak “in a small voice,” etc.
The problem is that Hermione needs feedback. Because Harry doesn’t engage with Hermione’s nagging, it’s hard for her to know when she’s entering the danger zone.
Like Hermione, Ron is pretty comfortable with the idea of conflict. He was raised in a house where such behavior was acceptable. He knew that just because his mother shouts or his brothers tease doesn’t mean that they don’t love him. He might be insecure about his worth, but he never has to worry that his family will simply stop loving him if he crosses some kind of invisible line.
Both Hermione and Ron wear their emotions on their sleeves and give each other instant feedback. If Hermione is upset with the boys, she tells them exactly why. Ron is the same way. Even when Ron fights with Harry, he chooses to immediately engage with him that night rather than giving him the cold shoulder and forcing Harry to work it out on his own.
Tne conflicts over each other’s romantic partners (or potential romantic partners) are a good example as well. When Ron sees something developing with Hermione/Krum, he immediately reacts and Hermione reacts right back.
When Hermione sees that Ron has a crush on Fleur, she wastes no time talking about how Fleur “really thinks a lot of herself” and “scowls” when Fleur gives Ron attention. Hermione reacts to Ron kissing Lavender not by sulking but by sending a flock of birds flying at his head. Neither of them are great at hiding how they feel.
There is a brief period in HBP where Ron decides to give Hermione the cold shoulder after finding out that she kissed Krum. Hermione is quite visibly rattled and upset by this behavior, saying she “doesn’t know what she’s supposed to have done.” Because normally when Ron is upset at Hermione, he tells her why.
A lot of the problems in the later books regarding their romantic lives stem from the same thing - for the first time, they’re not being honest and upfront with one another. Which creates a comedy of misunderstandings and poor decision-making.
Arguing as Conversation
There’s not really anger between Ron/Hermione’s arguments. I know that sounds odd, but to them it’s a cross between a rational discussion and intellectual exercise. Ron presents an idea, Hermione counters, Ron counters, and so on and so forth. It’s basically just a way to pass the time and exchange perspectives.
The morning after Ron/Hermione’s heated argument about Krum after the Yule Ball, Harry notes that they were being “quite friendly to each other, though oddly formal.”
In other words, they’re bending over backwards to be polite to one another and it’s making things weird. It’s totally different from their normal behavior.
There are many times in canon where they will segue from an argument to a normal conversation with no visible ill-will.
Even with Scabbers and the Firebolt, when an argument is finished, it’s finished.
PA:
Hermione flung her arms around Ron’s neck and broke down completely.
Ron, looking quite terrified, patted her very awkwardly on the top of the head.
Finally, Hermione drew away.
“Ron, I’m really, really sorry about Scabbers…” she sobbed.
“Oh — well — he was old,” said Ron, looking thoroughly relieved that she had let go of him.
“And he was a bit useless. You never know, Mum and Dad might get me an owl now.”
They’re perfectly capable of stopping in their tracks in order to focus on Harry or something else that’s just happened.
For another example, look at OP:
“Poisonous toadstools don’t change their spots,” said Ron sagely. “Anyway I’ve always thought Dumbledore was cracked trusting Snape. Where’s the evidence he ever really stopped working for You-Know-Who?”
“I think Dumbledore’s probably got plenty of evidence, even if he doesn’t share it with you, Ron,” snapped Hermione.
“Oh, shut up, the pair of you,” said Harry heavily, as Ron opened his mouth to argue back.
Hermione and Ron both froze, looking angry and offended.
“Can’t you give it a rest?” said Harry. “You’re always having a go at each other, it’s driving me mad.” […] The vision of Ron and Hermione’s shocked faces afforded him a sense of deep satisfaction.
Ron/Hermione are shocked, offended, and angry at Harry’s remark, because they don’t see anything wrong with their behavior. This is just how they talk.
Harry leaves the table and goes straight up to Divination, and Ron joins him a few minutes later:
The rest of the class arrived over the next five minutes. Ron emerged from the trapdoor, looked around carefully, spotted Harry and made directly for him, or as directly as he could while having to wend his way between tables, chairs and overstuffed pouffes.
“Hermione and me have stopped arguing,” he said, sitting down beside Harry.
“Good,” grunted Harry.
“But Hermione says she thinks it would be nice if you stopped taking out your temper on us,” said Ron.
“I’m not -”
“I’m just passing on the message,” said Ron, talking over him. “But I reckon she’s right. It’s not our fault how Seamus and Snape treat you.”
So in a matter of minutes, Ron and Hermione resolved their argument and discussed the best way to handle Harry. Notice that Ron doesn’t actually apologize for arguing with Hermione, he just tells Harry they’ve stopped.
An Expression of Trust
When you get to know someone, you learn that there are certain things they’re sensitive about, and you try to steer away from those topics. This is no different with Hermione/Ron. They both know what’s safe and what’s off-limits.
Hermione can call Ron tactless numerous times and nag him to do his homework, but she’s not going to take a shot at his family’s finances. Ron will tell Hermione to stop nagging and call her a know-it-all, but he would never insult her appearance.
That’s how they operate. And Hermione knows that if she accidentally strays into the danger zone, Ron will let her know. And vice versa.
Keeping Things Balanced
The movies turn Hermione into this perfect superwoman and Ron into a cowardly idiot who’s the butt of the joke, but the truth is that both characters are flawed in their own way.
One of Hermione’s more abrasive qualities is her tendency to be a bit of a know-it-all.
To be clear, being a know-it-all is not the same as being smart. Being smart is knowing the answer. Being a know-it-all is being unable to resist telling everyone else the answer. Essentially the way that Hermione and Ron negotiate a balanced relationship is by Ron engaging her when she nags him or acts like a know-it-all.
Hermione cannot help telling him that he’s not pronouncing something correctly. Plenty of people are offended by that kind of behavior, even when the other person is right. But Ron, instead of ignoring her corrections or acting as though he’s been gravely insulted, just calls her a know-it-all to keep things even. This evens the scales between them and prevents their relationship from becoming Hermione bossing Ron around.
It’s important to understand that Ron does have a huge amount of respect for Hermione’s abilities. He’s not always the best about coming out and saying it, but he takes it for granted that she’s the cleverest person in the room.
PS:
“But we’re not six hundred years old,” Ron reminded her. “Anyway, what are you studying for, you already know it all.”
GoF:
“But Hogwarts is hidden,” said Hermione, in surprise. “Everyone knows that… well, everyone who’s read Hogwarts, A History, anyway.”
“Just you, then,” said Ron. “So go on - how d'you hide a place like Hogwarts?”
When the O.W.L.s arrive and Hermione looks slightly unhappy and says that she did “not bad,” Ron takes the paper and announces that she got 10 Outstandings and 1 Exceeds Expectations and then playfully makes fun of her for being disappointed given how impressive her scores are. When Ron and Hermione take their apparition tests, he tells Harry that Hermione was “perfect, obviously.” Even when he himself fails, he doesn’t seem to bear any ill-will toward Hermione.
Ron’s not threatened by Hermione’s intelligence, and he’s not too prideful to do exactly what Hermione’s told him to do. But his teasing and his unwillingness to automatically agree with Hermione is what creates a balanced relationship between the two.
And Hermione genuinely needs this in a partner. She needs someone who will volley right back when she argues with them. She needs someone who will understand that her tendency to be a know-it-all is an instristic part of her personality. She needs someone who finds it endearing rather than annoying.
I have this theory that Neville is supposed to represent everything that Peter could have been. You know, both of them were the weak link in the friend group, the guy easily influenced. But instead, Rowling made Neville weak to prove the two paths an individual could take. How each of our weaknesses manifest in different ways. Peter’s weakness made him a villain, ultimately worse than Voldemort because he betrayed his friends, while Neville’s weakness made him work harder and in the end made him Harry’s strongest ally.
