and i don’t mean like, they recreate it in SFM

they put the actual models in the actual trailer alongside the real actors and it’s just so surreal to watch

Yes yyes yes yes this is such a good analysis I eat the dadspy angst for life- Scout is mean and selfish and oblivious of many of the things spy has done for him. The latter - did all that just for his own consciousness and of course he wanted to spend the time with scout, they jabs and bickers at each other but still don't leave each others' side to the point of near death, and that happened twice. (spy ran away in jungle inferno but that's for the sake of funny so it didnt count lol).

But what's more, Scout does NOT hate spy. quite the opposite. i think he looks up to spy a lot more than he himself is aware of. Expiration date is good example, then he goes directly to spy's help when he broke both of his arms in the comic - again. In the smissmas comic he talks to the child thinking that is spy - about how that stab is impressive, and about how he even secretly has a tier list of his favorite disguise&stabs performed by spy, and those are just to name a few.

But scout did have a vehement dislike for whoever is unfortunate enough to be his dad.

I think what's actually going to happen if scout were to know spy is his parent - is that he will turn bitter about it, he will suddenly not want anything to do with spy for a couple of days, but then he will look back and see everything now oh so clearly. And after all the time they spent together scout knew how dangerous spy's line of work is, he would have an idea on why his dad ultimately left them- it's all to protect his family.

I think the end of comic #6 pretty much concludes their relationship quite nicely. where they stood together, both injured, helding each other up, spy has bound up scout's wound like always, and he accepted spy's help without thinking twice, but still glad to have spy by his side, again.

Um.. No?

So someone wrote a Dadspy fic where Scout knew the entire time and he’s indifferent to the reveal. There were big two things that didn’t feel right to me though.

Scout passive aggressively ignoring and avoiding Sniper after he died in the hallway in comic #6.

For those that don’t want to read this other post of mine, I went over what happened to Sniper in the comics and how that mighta affected Spy wanting to disguise as Tom Jones.

Now Scout wouldn’t think about the fact that Spy saw what happened, but he would eventually be pulled aside by Demoman or somebody and told about Sniper’s situation. Especially if he and Spy had a falling out.

So I can’t imagine him ghosting the poor guy to break off their friendship.

2. This:

“He keeps acting like he always did with Spy. The sick satisfaction he gets every time Spy follows him cloaked and takes a bullet for him in battle, tries to give him little gifts or start conversations only to get rejected with that poker face sliding over his features was thrilling.

But it got boring pretty quickly. Unfortunately, Spy didn’t leave him alone even after he yelled at him to go be useful for once and ****ing creep around the other Scout if he wanted to play follow-the-leader so bad.”

What do you mean you enjoy reaping the benefits of your father taking bullets for you, then rejecting his attempts to do right by you?!

It’s one thing if Scout doesn’t know the extent of how much Spy tries to help him, like protecting him from Joey Murders when his arms were broken in prison. I can see him forgetting the better deeds of his father in the timelines where he didn’t know the truth.

It’s totally different if he knew the whole time, saw Spy putting his life on the line for him over and over, and knew that Spy wasn’t using those deeds to try to force father-son reconciliation.

Like, he did not do all of that expecting Scout to just forget being left behind and let bygones be bygones; he did it because he loves his son. He doesn’t bring any of that up when finally revealing the truth to his son, and he’s left in speechless horror and remorse when he finds out how long Scout knew. So it’s really evil and nasty to take pleasure in hurting him like Jeremy’s been doing.

“Sniper shifts uncomfortably and looks off to the side, most likely to a cloaked Spy. ‘Nah, mate. Just about the… father… thing.’

Scout drops his stuff in his locker. ‘Huh? What about it?’ Of course he knows. Scout isn’t dumb. He sees the way Spy looks more and more disheveled each day, eating less and less, staring at Scout more and more.

Scout thinks it because he is at that age that he would start nagging his family to visit more if he had a normal life. If he had stayed. But he didn’t, so he doesn’t have one to nag. Not outside the base and certainly not inside it. Maybe it finally dawned on him that his only child knows him at a coworker level and wants to keep it that way. That the night he spent with his Ma practically doesn’t mean anything to anyone, not even Scout’s Ma, but him.”

Scout, how do you know that your parents weren’t in a relationship for a few years? You figured out Spy was your dad when you somehow recognized him at 16 in a random diner, so Ma had to have kept a picture or something like that. Ask yourself, would she do that for a random guy that she knew for one night? And would she keep that if he meant nothing to her?

… And he’s really gonna just sit there and watch Spy go into a depression or worse with no remorse. Refusing to go talk to him knowing he’s standing next to Sniper, knowing he’s losing weight in a dangerous way.

That’s not indifference, that’s called hate.

Me personally, I think Scout’s the type to say something really harsh and hateful, but not actually mean it; and that he’d feel remorse for it later. Not prey on Spy’s downfall like he did in this fic. Respectfully.

I literally cried out FUCK when i see this analysis because it IS TRUE. Considering sniper and spy in the comic is implied to be as close friends as heavy+medic or soldier+demo (to the point spy told him he is scout's dad and they probably talked about it all day - Yes sniper's fate would definitely affect Spy's.

Despite spy has done so much for scout thru out their merc life and everyone could sees that he cares about scout more than anyone in the world - he still feels the fresh guilt and thinks himself the world's worst person for abandoning his son. When he saw sniper's interaction with his biological parents, no matter how he had prepared and had told himself that he is going to do it, to tell scout and accept what would happen next - he just can't after that.

He saw how sniper was just so happy to see them and acted more like an excited boy than the sniper he knew of - to only get hurt at his most vulnerable state, slowly and surely realizing how shitty those two people really were and they will never replace the parents he has lost forever. and Spy thinks to himself is it really a good idea to let scout knew his father is this bad person, the person scout has always despised (where SCOUT ABSOLUTELY DID NOT, ONLY SPY THOUGHT SO), like himself.

So despite sniper later urged him to "tell that thing! tell the thing we've discussed all the time! tell him the thing before it's too late! you've prepared for this mate I believe in you! " Spy just can't.

So, spoilers for the Tf2 comics that might never be completed.

Ya’ll remember what happened with Sniper and his parents?

So first his parents die, which is terrible enough because he called them every week and trusted them. But on top of that, he finds out they adopted him, and he can’t find answers on where he came from. And he spent six months dealing with that emotional baggage.

But thankfully, he’s right about Pauling knowing where to look, and go to New Zealand and meet his birth “parents”.

But his father is a national embarrassment that destroyed the country. His birth parents can’t stand each other. And on top of that, his imbecile father has the gall to ask him for money.

The lab was the only place that didn’t flood, and when “mom” leaves, she breaks a hole in the roof. And she left without her son or any of the people who came with him.

Something else important is that other teammates are there, including Spy. This was important enough to Sniper that the other teammates could know what was happening [Pauling could have lied to them]. Spy’s instinct when the room starts filling with sea water is to snap Pauling out of her Administrator disapproval panic.

If Medic hadn’t brought Sniper back with his mad science, this would have been it. A terrible demise after being left to drown by his garbage biological “parents”.

In my bucket scene analysis, I talked about how Spy wanted to do one last good thing for his team when they thought they were going to die. He wanted them to write down everyone’s last wish and fulfill them, so nobody died as depressingly.

I imagine it impacted his decision to lie about Tom Jones being Scout’s father. He saw what happened to Sniper here and didn’t want his son to die confused, disappointed and angry. Because he cares about Scout more than those two crappy New Zealanders cared about their lost boy.

actually no body talks about the absence of a red spy nearly as enough and it confuses me as well! Because if Spy's Disguise and Emblue happened in the same universe it can at the very least confirm that the red spy is still alive at the end...So where did he go? Wasn't his goal at the end of Spy's Disguise to haunt Blu Spy? Is he...Did he disguise as the plague doctor and killed Scout's ma just to frame the Blu Medic, and that will settle the argument of whether Fritz Ludwig actually did it...at all?

Well, this Definitely won’t be Important

Ok, so first of all, Scout has been terminated by BLU because of a respawn failure. And you can tell he’s not doing well just from looking at him. And it’s the middle of the night, but he’s come to ask Dr. Ludwig to examine his teeth over a nightmare.

“Well, I was in the bathroom, right…”

“and as I was brushing my teeth, all my teeth started to fall out.”

“There was blood all over the basin.. it was horrible.”

“Vell, there’s nothing wrong with your teeth.”

This could just be Scout’s Schizophrenia kicking in, but here’s something to consider.

Seizures and not being able to speak or move around like before, both things that happened to Scout because of his respawn failure.

So why is he scared of loosing his teeth, instead of something wrong with his brain or being paralyzed? It would make more sense based on what happened to him, right?

Guys, we don’t… we don’t actually know how RED Spy got his fake teeth. It could have been something he wanted to do, so he got the healthy ones pulled. But it could also have been a case where he got tortured, or had a respawn failure. Both things that happen to Scout in this movie.

And you wanna know something else? We never see a RED Spy in the movie.

RED Demoman was alive for a while.

There’s a RED zombie Scout, Soldier, Sniper, Engineer, and Heavy.

RED Medic was half alive-half dead from his experiments.

This Pyro could be BLU or RED in origin. He’s working with RED Sniper and the bloody Engineers, who are RED Engie’s brothers, so I’m assuming RED.

RED Sniper had respawned successfully before Soldier shot him with the rocket launcher, but he’d seen the other side.

So where’s RED Spy? We have an evil BLU Spy, but not RED.

He’s not even there as a zombie, like a good chunk of RED team. So where is he?

Could BLU Scout be the same one from meet the Spy, who would’ve gotten exposed to the pictures of his parents if RED wasn’t disguised as him?

And the fact that RED Spy wanted to fulfill every merc’s dying wish instead of opening his cyanide tooth… What if he did have a minor Respawn failure? It happened to both sides of the Gravel War after all.

Ok, this is a bit of a ramble, and idk if anyone's gonna pay attention to this but I NEED to vocalize is this on the internet or I'll just go insane from talking to myself in my room for all eternity

As we all know, Spy is Scout's dad and was never in Scout's life. However, we've seen that Spy is pretty good with kids

NOW I KNOW MIGHT BE A BIT OF A STRETCH, but I think this is also why he treats Ms. Pauling with so much respect. Like ya I know she's his superior and he has to respect her but just look at this

Pauling and Scout are around the same age, so I think Pauling is like a substitute for Scout. Someone that Spy can comfort (in his own way) and act "fatherly" towards because he knows he can never rekindle that kind of relationship with Scout after all the torment they give to one another, which is why he confessed to Scout about being his father disguised and when Scout was on his literal deathbed.

He treats kids, and people like Pauling, with respect and care because he was never, and can never be, able to show that to his actual son, and has no way to because he's pushed him away so much because he's pissed at himself for never stepping up.

I hope this makes sense and that I didn't just repeat myself a bunch, at least I got it out of my system lol.

me me me me me, I mean in comic spy was definitely still there when Scout was learning to walk as it was shown in Scout's dream, and dreams reflect reality. Maybe 4-5, maybe 2?

It is significant as it showed that Spy, at time time in his 20s, did try to become a husband and a father, tried settling down, and it worked for a while until it failed.

Idk if I'm one of the few who headcanons this, but I like to think Spy left when Scout was around 4-5, maybe even 3 yrs old.

Idk maybe its because I like the whole idea of Scout remembering certain things about Spy before he left, like his cigarette smoke, his small ass hands, maybe even what he said in French? I like to headcanon that Spy would call Scout mon filis (my son in french) or something along those lines.

Anyone else also have this idea?
