Here we go, primary ballots have arrived.
My state has a robust mail-in ballot system. We universally get our ballots in the mail early; We also get a little booklet with our ballots during the general elections, offering comprehensive summaries of the pros and cons for each bill being voted on as well as the full text of the bill that you can read if desired. This allows for highly informed voting decisions made at your convenience.
My state is very good at democracy in a way I encourage other states to adopt as well.
The primary's an important time for voting. I mean, there's absolutely no question who our presidential candidate is going to be, obviously. That's a wash. But down-ticket voting is just as important, if not moreso. State legislature has a far greater impact on people's lives than federal due to imbalances in our system of governance. And in the federal government, Congress is arguably more powerful than the President.
When the general election rolls around, we're basically stuck with whoever we've got. Who do I want in office: Someone who actively thinks my existence should be a criminal offense punishable by death, or whatever the other option is? Hm. Tough choice.
But the primary is when we get to sit down and hash out what that other option will be. This is where progress happens; When we have a chance to throw out bad politicians from our own party and replace them with better ones, before we have to just suck it up and go to war with whatever we've got in November.
Someone who doesn't give a shit about us and just wants to control the stock market for personal profit sucks, but is still better than someone who actively wants to kill us all. But someone who actually cares about us, or even is one of us? Better still. I'm a huge proponent of always voting for better, even if none of the options rise to the level of good.
Because continuously electing better is how we eventually get to good.

ah, if it's okay with you then I have no issues
I love Maria, and I voted for her...then a day later I remembered she doesn't wear glasses. Those are cybernetic eyes
I figured they were close enough since they resembled glasses and aided her vision

Strawhats, ranked by how surprising it is for them to be someone’s favorite Strawhat
1. Nico Robin: Central Figure to the arcs that are always in contention for “best arc” in the series, highly tied into the myth arc of the show, has a well defined personality, and has a lot of pathos.
2. Monkey D. Luffy: Main Character, has a fun and dynamic power set, punches cops and would declare war on the whole world for his friends. He a very well done version of the Stock Shonen hero archetype, but that’s also what holds him back, as there are plenty of people who just dislike that kind of Archetype
3. Nami: Central Figure of what’s commonly considered the first great arc of one piece, has an interesting fighting style, a personality that lets her have comedic beats and play the straight man when needed. Biggest issue with her is that her crew specialty is difficult to work into most arcs, since the arcs are defined by the island their on, and navigation is primarily used to get from island to island
4. Ussop: People love an scrappy underdog, and he’s also a major figure in the Water 7/Enies Lobby arch. The big thing holding him back is that his Schtick can be annoying when he’s not getting character focus.
5. Roronoa Zoro: The Straightforwardly Cool one. He’s got his themes and his comedic foils but his biggest appeal is that he gets to be cool in the most straightforward way compared to the others. But for the same reason some could find him the most basic of the group.
6. Jimbe: Lives in a very similar niche to Zoro, but he’s newer so he’s had less time to do stuff. He’s this high because I know he’s very popular.
7. Franky: Compelling and Comedic in equal measure. He can play any kind of narrative role.
8. Tony Tony Chopper: Has a lot of heart, similar to Franky. His power set is more interesting in concept than in practice, and I’ve heard complaints that he devolves into Mascot status post timeskip
9. Brooke: Very compelling and also has plenty of great comedic moments. The big thing holding him back is the pervert gimmick, which is thankfully a relatively minor part of his character
10. Sanji: Intensely compelling character arc, but his comedic role is severely outdated and a big turn off to many, and unlike Brook his perversion is too central to be ignored. He’s the only strawhat whose nadir is bad enough to actually make the Manga worse, so he’s got last place by default.

Gonna need yall to stop putting Biden is Just As Bad propaganda on my dash. Had to unfollow someone because I don’t want to a start a fight with them over it, but I’m about to bite the next person who puts that shit in front of me.
If you don’t like Biden, vote in your god damn local and mid term elections for third party or further left candidates so that we get better democratic candidates for future elections. But this one is already fucking decided, and I’m NOT ending up under a Trump led dictatorship because yall value protecting your personal sense of moral purity over the collective good. Whether it offends your personal morals to vote for Biden is IRRELEVANT in the face of the alternative.
This isn’t a lesser of two evils situation. One guy sucks. The other guy is LITERALLY PLANNING TO OVERTHROW OUR DEMOCRACY AND INSTALL HIMSELF AS A PUTIN STYLE DICTATOR.
PLEASE look up Project 2025 and stop acting like abstaining is some kind of personal ethical decision!

Hey everyone! This is my lovely friend Cyrus Nemati, who many of you may know as Theseus, Dionysus and Ares from the first Hades game.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He has spent the last couple years developing his very first indie game, Vampire Therapist, which plays with the many vampire character archetypes from across media.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's been reviewing VERY well but it's not getting very many wishlists, so if you're interested in vampires, fantastic art and clever, funny, and thoughtful writing about vampire mental health, go wishlist it on Steam!
And listen, Cyrus may be too humble to leverage his colorful career as your favourite Hades hotboys, so I'm gonna do it for him 😌 GO SUPPORT FANTASTIC INDIE DEVS LIKE THIS ONE!

Americans, these are things we are NOT saying in 2024:
"Voting blue won't solve anything." Yes it will: if enough of us do it, it will solve a problem called Trump's second term in the White House. We unfortunately live in a two-party system. If you refuse to vote, you're effectively voting for Trump. I shouldn't need to explain this to people, yet here we are.
"It doesn't matter who's president. Both candidates are the same anyway." No, they are REALLY not. Biden was never my first choice, and his shipments of arms to Israel are despicable, but don't try to tell me even for a second that a second Trump term would be the same for the world as a second Biden term.
"But voting blue won't fix [fundamental underlying problem in America]." Voting for Democrats cannot fix every issue, this is true. But by saying this and ONLY this you are discouraging people from voting by making them feel hopeless. Voting is one of many tools in our arsenal, not the only tool, but an important one, and it does matter.
"You shouldn't vote blue, you should do [other thing] instead." See above: you can vote and protest and organize at the same time. It's not either/or. You can do it all. Stop discouraging voters from exercising their rights under the guise of leftism.
"Voting is just legitimizing government power. It makes you part of the system." Literally just shut up. Women and people of color didn't fight for their voting rights to have you say things like this. If you live in America and you can legally vote, then you should fucking vote, and vote blue. There is no neutral option.
"Voting blue just makes you complicit in [this bad policy]." Inaction, and allowing Trump to have a second term, is worse for the entire world than any Democrat policy. Yes, even that one. Voting is not about finding a perfect unproblematic candidate. It is about choosing the lesser of two evils.
"Voting doesn't work because—" STOP IT. STOP DISCOURAGING PEOPLE FROM VOTING.
You know who wants you NOT to vote? Trump supporters, that's who. You should be suspicious of ANYONE who is suggesting that your vote doesn't matter, or that both candidates are the same, or that Biden's policy on XYZ means you shouldn't vote for him. Trump supporters aren't trying to get your vote by saying, "Vote for Trump!" They're trying to get your vote by DISCOURAGING YOU FROM VOTING AT ALL.
I don't like Biden either, but Trump is unequivocally worse. Voting doesn't fix everything, but it is the minimum fucking requirement of living in a democracy. Voting for president has real, tangible, immediate impacts on people's lives, and choosing not to vote is not the rebellion you think it is, it is just relinquishing your voice. So fucking vote. THIS IS A GROUP PROJECT AND DAMN IT WE ARE NOT FAILING BECAUSE OF YOU.
