Although I haven't seen it in what way is Brand New Animal ham fisted about its politics? Because a lot of my favourite media isn't shy about its themes & narratives at all, & I don't see that as a bad thing!personally, I think media being open about its politics makes it waaaay more interesting & fleshed out. Also, considering how much you adore queer stories openly using queer terminology & talking about social issues, I'd assume you'd be on a similar level about politics, no? (This wasn't meant as an insult towards you or come off as condescending. Apologies if it came out that way ;w;)
ham fisted as in the writers seem to have a lot of really uncomfortable ideas about how systems of power work. its not that i didnt understand the political themes, it’s that i did understand them and i thought they were dumb and bad.
sorry if you've told this before but is there a reason you don't like studio trigger anime? Genuinely curious
sorry, i have a condition that makes me say reductive things on stream without explaining them. I actually think that most trigger anime are visual masterpieces, but the plot almost always falls flat every time. Little Witch, BNA, Promare are all examples of some of the best visual spectacle in animation, with some extremely questionable writing decisions, especially when they talk about systems of power, with BNA’s discussion of oppression being the most ham-fisted out of anything ive seen out of them.
Little Witch has the benefit of being more character focused but genuinely beyond the characters i could not name a single thing that happens in the second half of the show despite being obsessed when i first saw it.
So yeah, trigger rules but they have plenty of issues when it comes to plot structure. i’m sure they’re doing right by dungeon meshi, but that’s also a story that’s already been written, so it doesn’t quite count for or against their writing in my opinion.
