Blessed are the Unbelievers
A small fic on Arlecchino, Furina, and the nature of faith before 4.6 smashes all my theories to bits.
link to AO3 version: https://archiveofourown.org/works/55371247
Even before she donned a mask to kill a god, Arlecchino had never believed in the Archons. How could she? When their goddess danced and sang without a care in the world, while Arlecchino fought the pain of her curse every day. When the uncaring judge over all did nothing to help the orphans before Mother found them?
Who could believe in a being that did not believe in them?
Clervie did though.
She'd always be the first to grab the newspapers plastered with their goddess's face all over them, smiling mismatched eyes unseeing of the little girl's devotion. Clervie would poor over the stories, the scandals of Furina's tantrums, the drama of her trials, but most of all she loved the reviews of performances staring there beloved archon.
She would read these articles out loud to Arlecchino, narrating the quotes of their goddess wowing the stage once again with the kind of breathless idolization that only children were capable of.
Arlecchino had listened, she always listened when Clervie talked, but she had never understood it.
"Shouldn't you be more focused on the Cyro Archon?" She had asked her once. "She's the one who we'll serve. Who mother Worships."
"We're Fontainian too." Clervie had laughed at that. "Besides," she added with a wink. "Fontaine gave me you. Why wouldn't I be grateful?"
Arlecchino had blushed at that, and the topic had been dropped.
In the end, it hadn't mattered which goddess Clervie loved most. Neither the hydro nor the cyro archon had stepped in to save her from her fate at Arlecchino's own hands.
Arlecchino knew she hated them all at that moment. What good were gods who could not even save a true believer? Nothing but pretty ornamentation for the sky. A useless trinket easily broken and replaced. They were not worth any of her faith.
How ironic was it then, that the nonbeliever would meet them both.
The cyro archon was everything a goddess should be. Beautiful in way of ice statues who have been labored over for days to glitter just right in the winter sun. Yet as was the way of ice statues, standing to close, even touching them could result in damage. She had to be kept at a distance to maintain her true perfection.
Perhaps if Arlecchino had met her earlier, before Clervie's blood stain her hands so badly that not even Mother's own blood could wash it out, she would have worshiped her. She would have been fooled by the glistening ice, the cold distance. But now with the world's truth at her fingertips, she only saw the true fragility hidden behind. A being of entirely too much power who could shatter far too easily and take them all with her.
She was not one Arlecchino could put her trust in. But she did have the support Arlecchino and her brother's and sister's and soon to be children would need. For their sake Arlecchino could fain the motions of loyalty to this statue of a goddess. But she would not worship her, not now and not ever.
In contrast to the fragile Ice, the trembling girl beneath Arlecchino's finger tips was all to human. Large blue missmatched eyes welled with tears as she begged for her life. She knelt before Arlecchino. White gloves stained with the dirt of the street folded as if in prayer. A mockery of her own believers. What kind of god would so willingly bow her pride?
And yet...Arlecchino felt the press of the warm flesh beneath her fingertips, digging into the place were the supposed god's gnosis should rest. But there was nothing but the irregular beat of a very human heart. Something was off. Arlecchino ran her eyes over the supposed goddess's face. The desperation in her eyes, the trail of snot in her nose. So far from what a goddess was supposed to be.
She wasn't one. The realization filled Arlecchino all at once. This girl, this Furina, was no god. No archon. What was she then? To last so long? She must be cursed. Just like Arlecchino.
How strange, to meet one like herself in the form of the very goddess she despised.
Furina told no one of their midnight rondevous. Not even her precious judge, or else why would Arlecchino be allowed to visit? Arlecchino might even harbor hope that she didn't recognize her maskless under the morning sun, except for the ever present underline of fear in the fake goddess's eyes in their every interaction, a party of tea and cakes more tense than all the battlefield's Arlecchino had seen combined.
From the outside, no doubt, they looked the picture of grace. Certainly Clervie would have given her left hand to sit were Arlecchino was, having tea with her hero. Would it hurt, to see one you had worshiped for the true, pathetic actor they are? Arlecchino was glad Clervie had never had the opportunity now, to look to close and see the cracks in the faker's facade. Let her rest in peace, one childhood dream still intact.
It was this sentimental whim that kept her from revealing the whole truth to her children. Only Lyney and Lynette seemed to pick up on the front their so called goddess was putting forward. But for some reason it only seemed to fuel their belief that she was truly an archon worth worshiping. As one performer to another.
Arlecchino would be lying if she said this did not irk her. Especially when Furina took advantage of that faith to place Lyney on trial. Lyney would not fully grasp her attack for what it really was. No doubt a calculated move to strike back at Arlecchino where she was weakest. It didn't work of course, Arlecchino's children would never let her down like that, but she still made time to thank the mysterious traveler who had stepped in to aid her distressed son.
Liars however, always find their lies catching up to them. For Furina, it was Poisson's fate that finally trapped her in a cage. What happened next was almost to fast to keep up with. The trial of the fake goddess, the revelations of the oceanids, the fulfillment of the prophecy, the death of the Hydro archon, the rise of the Hydro Sovereign, and when the water's receded, the ever-looming question of how to move forward after doomsday.
Exactly what happened to stop the prophecy, the role of the Hydro archon and Furina were not exactly public knowledge. Although rumors did spread far and wide. But Arlecchino was nothing if not personable, and Neuvilette could be surprisingly talkative if his righteous anger was awakened.
He did not tell her all, but from what he did say she was able to figure out the rest. Suffice to say, Furina was still under his protection. A hero in his eyes.
It was funny, how only in the revelation of the gulf between them, had Arlecchino realized how similar she had thought them.
Furina and Arlecchino, both cursed humans playing roles they seemed so unfit for. It really shouldn't surprise Arlecchino how much she had projected onto the other. She had thought them of the same make, calculating beings who presented a cordial front, willing to do anything to preserve the illusion of control they carried. Two beings who did not fit into this world but dug their own way into it, reminded every day by the curses on their bodies. For all she had scoffed at Furina, she had always thought her dedication to the role a sign of her skill. An opponent equal to Arlecchino, if not in strength, then in cunning.
But Furina was not like Arlecchino at all. Cursed though she may be, cunning though she was, this actress on the eternal stage. She was still separated by one key factor that left Arlecchino in the dust.
Furina de Fontaine, humanity of the Hydro Archon Focalors was a creature born of love. Cursed by it, fueled by it, she represented not the audacity of humanity like Arlecchino had thought, but the fullness of divine devotion, so strong it would weather 500 years of torment and still stand strong.
And it hurt, somewhere deep in Arlecchino's soul, to know the truth. To know Clervie in all her childhood innocence had somehow seen Furina clearer than Arlecchino's own tainted heart ever could.
How ironic was it that she, Arlecchino, the ultimate unbeliever, to believe so strongly in the unfaithfulness of gods it became a faith in and of itself. And how fitting, that such a faithless faith would meet the fate of all believers in this twisted world, and shatter before the pain of revelation.

Is it wrong to date a guy from an enemy faction when your country doesn’t exist anymore? Asking for a friend
A kaebedo au in which kaeya lives in a spy drama and albedo in a sitcom
Note: Minor spoilers for some lore from Pernhari lore books
Given what we now know about how the crimson moon dynasty came before the eclipse dynasty and was more focused on alchemy, i would like to submit a theory that albedo is from the crimson moon faction
His master rhinedottr is famous for her alchemy after all, and he followed in her footsteps.
Not that these factions mean much to albedo, k’hanriah is long gone, and there is so much more in the world to discover
But Kaeya! Kaeya was sent as a spy by the k’hanrians who haven’t given up yet, they still have hope and cling to old traditions.
They served the dynasty of eclipse, of course the differences between crimson moon and exclipse matter to them
Especially if i go out on a limb and theorize the crimson moon had something to do with the fall of k’hanriah. Like a revolt or political infighting. Side eyes “the exclipse was swallowed by the crimson moon”
So it makes sense why neither kaeya nor albedo were aware that they’d meet another k’hanrian in mondstat, much less another captain in the knights
Kaeya spends a day in agony, fully expecting albedo to jump him and make kaeya follow some new “mission” or something
That is until albedo mentions alchemy, specifically kemia. The pride of the crimson moon’s alchemists.
Combined with albedo’s seeming lack of knowledge as to who kaeya is, this can only mean one thing.
Albedo isn’t a spy from eclipse here to get Kaeya back on track. He’s a spy from crimson moon here to do the same thing as kaeya!
Naturally kaeya can’t let an enemy spy get to close to mondstat! Especially since they might not be friendly like him!
Plus he’s grown up on stories that blame the crimson moon for k’hanriah’s fall. (Also the gods and abyss, but come on, we all know the rival political faction was the real enemy here) he does not want that to happen to mondstat
So kaeya decides to get close to albedo, feel him out and see what his intentions are, and dispose of him if he needs to.
Unfortunately for him, a wrench is thrown in his plans in the form of Klee. Sweet, loveable klee who adores her big brother albedo so much, and would definitely cry if he were to suddenly vanish, and he just couldn’t do that ot her (also there is an all powerful witch who will definitely destroy mondstat if they make her precious daughter cry)
Now kaeya must find other ways to handle mond’s latest ticking time bomb and figure out his secrets, all while trying to ignore how those eyes make his heart skip a beat (from fear, he lies to himself)
Meanwhile, albedo clocks kaeya as a k’hanrian from the eclipse faction the moment he saw him. Given how it was all over kaeya’s clothes, he thought this was intentional.
And sure, kaeya never talks about his homeland, or his people before mondstat, but given everything that went down its probably a sore spot. No one else brings it up ir comments on his heritage so albedo just assumes everyone knows and no one talks about it out of respect for kaeya, and some other illusive social cue.
So when kaeya starts getting close to albedo, with his signature flirty moves, albedo does not think this has anything to do with crimson moon vs eclipse. He thinks this is just kaeya trying to get to know the new captain
Maybe he’s curious about alchemy?
So he shows off a few cool potions to a wide eyes kaeya
Kaeya internally: is this a threat?
Albedo internally: i am winning at social interaction 😁
Albedo figured kaeya would get bored of him soon enough, when he realized that albedo’s job of alchemy is a lot more math and a lot less cool explosions.
But when kaeya sticks around, asking questions about albedo’s past, befriending klee, expressing curiousity in what exactly his potions can be used for, albedo starts to get suspicious
It’s not the alchemy itself. Albedo offered to teach kaeya some small potions and kaeya all but leapt away in his haste to refuse (those childhood stories of “touch alchemy and u die” realy stuck with him)
So he goes to sucrose and timeaus and asks them.
Sucrose is equally baffled, wonders if maybe kaeya just really likes chopping up ingredients
Albedo: hmm. He does do it everytime i ask…
Timeus: oh my archons, kaeya has a crush on you.
Albedo decides to test both theories. He stops letting kaeya cut his ingredients, but that doesn’t deter him. So he checks to see if Kaeya is attracted to him
By silently crowding close to kaeya to hear if his heart speeds up
Kaeya meanwhile, has a stone faced alchemist pushing him into a wall, is absolutely thinking he’s about to be murdered (and that it’s hot)
Albedo notices the speed up. Ahh so he does like me.
Kaeya: i have to go now! Proceeds to rush out the door.
Albedo is confused. If kaeya likes him, why is he running?
He asks timeus and sucrose. Sucrose offers to stalk him for a while to find out why. Timeus replies that albedo was “too forward” and that people like “to be chased”
Albedo, chasing kaeya: is this what u want?
Kaeya: oh god he’s gonna kill me!
The method that albedo picks to woo Kaeya is to offer him a fancy lunch he cooked, complete with a traditional khanrian delicacy: the spider sandwich.
Kaeya does not enjoy this, his mind running wild trying to figure out what albedo is trying to say to him by feeding him spiders.
Albedo decides he can’t trust Rhinedottr’s ideas of “traditional delicacies” (who knew her spider sandwich wasn’t normal?)
So he turns to sucrose, who has been stalking kaeya. She proposes a date that she has gathered from her research: take him drinking.
Now if albedo had started with this, it probably would have gonne much easier for him. But after a week of being stalked, chased, and fed spiders, kaeya’s guard is way up.
He’s convinced this is an attempt to get him drunk to get information out of him. Well good luck with that, kaeya’s no light weight, he’s certain he can drink albedo under the table, and get him talking instead
Albedo is a but hesitant when kaeya suggests a drinking competition, but goes along with it.
The result is a very drunk albedo cuddling up to kaeya and whispering the periodic table seductively in his ear.
Kaeya was not prepared for that. Not at all. He comes back home thinking that the crimson moon really trains their spies to be good at keeping secrets
Albedo comes back to his home confident at a successful first date
Things continue onward in their will they won’t they, until one day kaeya wakes up in bed with albedo, in matching pjs, klee sleeping between them, and realizes that seduction was the crimson moons game all along, and he lost.
But oh well, its not like he’s really following eclipse’s orders anyways. He thinks as he goes back to sleep
The end

In Which Kaeya and Kaveh Have a Horrible Missunderstanding
It starts at a bar in Sumeru. Kaeya is technically on buisness, but really he’s just having “fun” if fun is meeting another khanrian who drops a lore bomb, steals Kaeya’s company (traveler), and leaves without paying the bill.
Somewhat shaken up, kaeya walks up to the bar where he meets Kaveh, who is bemoaning his strained relationship with Alhaitham.
And maybe Kaeya’s feeling nostalgic surrounded by all this wine, maybe Dain’s words about the Alberichs made him want to reaffirm his place in the family that wasn’t crazy (if u count Diluc’s Darknight heroing as sane) but he finds himself emphasizing with Kaveh, and begins to tell his own story.
The two quickly realize their stories are quite similar. Kaveh talks about how his mother left him and Kaeya tells him about how his dad left him too. (Kaeya does not mention he was a very small child at the time, and not a college student, he thinks this is obvious. It is not. Kaveh doesn’t make that connection and it will come back to bite him later)
Kaveh bemoans how he found himself someone he thought he was going to make a new family with, indirectly talking of his secret college dream to marry his first boyfriend Alhaitham (he’s not direct because how embarrassing would that be? Kaeya gets it right?) kaeya emphasizes with his own hopes with diluc and master crepus (both who he uses first names for because he feels like he doesn’t deserve to call them brother/father. But it’s fine, it’s implied right?)
Then kaveh gripes about how it all fell apart and they had a big fight ( “Same” kaeya goes) how it emotionally destroyed him and Alhaitham is now letting him live in his house and that has to mean something, right?
This is when Kaeya, drunk and very much a busybody, (and projecting hard) offers his services. He wants to help these two brothers reconnect
Because kaeya has come to the mistaken conclusion that alhaitham and kaveh are brothers
Kaveh meanwhile, thinks diluc and kaeya must have been dating
Both are very, very wrong
Kaveh takes one look at Kaeya’s fashionable clothing with its daring V neck and thinks Kaeya must be a suduction master who’s taken pity upon him
He agrees
Kaeya starts with reconisence, since Alhaitham is still letting Kaveh live with him, it can’t be as bad as him and diluc, but it never hurts to know ur target
He stalks alhaitham’s schedule, and figures out what he can gleam about his personality.
“The first step is to be where they are,” Kaeya starts, “You’ve got a huge advantage because u share a house. Be useful. Remind him that he needs your support, even if he doesn’t like it”
“I already do the interior decorating! And cleaning! I even cook sometimes!”
“Excellent!” Kaeya claps his hands. “He relies on u, now u just need to figure out what his biggest secret is.”
“I …what?” Kaveh blinks “why? U aren’t seriously suggesting blackmail?”
“It’s not realllly blackmail.” Kaeya waves his hand. “U just want him to know u could, if u wanted too, but u don’t.”
“That’s not going to work on alhaitham, he doesn’t really have secrets” Kaveh says, privately thinking that maybe Kaeya’s not as good at this as he previously assumed.
“A shame,” kaeya sighs “ur sure he’s not moonlighting as a vigilante? Keeping a secret like that is a great way to force them to begin to trust you again.”
“…No” kaveh now definitely thinks Kaeya is not as knowledgeable as he though he was. And might be a little crazy.
Hopimg to change the subject Kaveh goes, “all i really want is to know how to have an open conversation with him wjthout our stupid pride getting in the way”
“An open conversation?” Kaeya looks serious. “That’s going to get physical.”
Physical? Kaveh thinks to himself. Is that really all we need?. Could he really be that bold?
“Does he have a vision?” Kaeya asks oblivious to kaveh’s shock
“Yes? What does that have to do with anything?”
“Is your vision a healing or sheilding one?”
“I can self-heal, yes” kaveh crossed his arms “what are you getting at?”
“That’s good” kaeya nods, lost in his own thoughts. “We’ll need a flat area then, mostly private but close enough to call for help when things get violent…”
“WHEN?” Kaveh shouts.
“I’ll stay by to act as an emergency aid. I can sheild when people closeby are close to death…”
“CLOSE TO DEATH?” Kaveh throws up his hands, breaking Kaeya out of his thoughts “What the F are u talking about?”
“Worst case scenarios.” Kaeya frowns. “You’ve had this fight before, you know how deadly it can get.”
“Deadly? Alhaitham and i had a verbal argument! With words!” Kaveh grabs Kaeya’s shoulders. “What happened to you??!!!”
“He tried to take me out with a flaming claymore.” Kaeya crosses his arms defensively. “It’s how i got my vision.”
“And you still want to get back together????”
“Yes? He’s all i have left.”
Kaveh opens his mouth, and closes this mouth, realizing for the first time in his life he’s to angry to speak.
Wordless, he leaves kaeya and goes straight to Alhaitham
Alhaitham looks up but before he can say anything, kaveh gives him a big hug and buries his head in his shoulder.
Alhaitham is shocked, but hugs back. Kaeya is shocked, becuase he’d never take a risk like that! But Alhaitham was hugging back! Should Kaeya try that?
“Thank you for just being a bit of a dick and not a psychopath”
“Are your standards really that low?” Alhaitham snarks, trying to cover how confused and offput he is by this all.
Kaveh just smiles and kisses him full on the mouth.
Kaeya who at this point, is convinced kaveh and ahaitham are brothers, promptly faints.
When he wakes, he doesn’t talk to anyone, just walks himself home all the way to mondstat in a daze before sitting at thr angel’s share.
Diluc takes one look at kaeya’s disleveled and dazed appearance and demands to know what happened
“He kissed his brother.” Kaeya says. Staring into his glass like it contained the secrets of the universe
“Some cultures do,” diluc points out, cleaning a few glasses while he waits the bar
“No,” kaeya shakes his head. “Not like those cheek kisses they do in fontaine. He was full on making out! With his brother!”
Diluc drops the glass.
“Diluc…” kaeya looks at diluc with big, watery eyes. “Diluc we aren’t thr most f-ed up pair of brothers. There are actually worse cases”
“Why are you telling me this?” Diluc asks, knuckles white on the counter.
“Because if i have to have nightmares about this, so do you,” goes Kaeya.
“Ass” diluc replies, “if u tried anything like that i’d have you reported to the church for the crime of incest.” but he relaxes.
Kaeya hides a smile. In a weird way, it’s reassuring to know that Diluc considers the idea of kissing him as incestuous. It means deep down he must still think of Kaeya as a brother.
Bonus
Meanwhile in Sumeru:
“How to you help someone who’s trapped in an abusive relationship?” Kaveh asks alhaitham
“I’ve found staging a coup most effective,” alhaitham says, thinking of nahida.
“Great,” kaveh pulls out the blue prints to the dawn winery “get the gang together Alhaitham, we’ve got a Wine tycoon to take down.”

In which the Tsarista wants Friends And Furina is the Unfortunate Target
A silly genshin au
So i was thinking, u know how every archon has nothing but respect for Furnia?
What if the Tsarista did too? After all, the tsarista wants to defy the heavens, ancthe only person to get away with that and live (that we know of) is Furina.
And its so hard to find archons to hang out with. She’s still not talking to Venti. Morax has to many shady contracts with celestia, Nahida is a child by archon standards, Ei scares her, and frankly the less said about Murata the better.
So when word gets to her through whatever highspeed knowledge that the archons a seem to have about what Focolors and Furina did, she instantly wants to bring her in as an ally.
But alas! Arrlecino has made an absolutely terrible impression on Furina! So much so that Furina refused to meet her without othwr parties present!
This is a huge failure!
She proceeds to tell Arrlecino that while she’s not in trouble, as she did bring back the gnosis, couldn’t she have been a little nicer?
Just look at Childe! He managed to make a good impression on Morax, and he didn’t even realize it was Morax he was hanging out with!
They still get drinks somwtimes!
If Childe can befriend a god by accident, surely Arrlecino could at least mend bridges with Furina? Furina would be sooo useful after all.
Arrlecino, who has jetted off after getting the gnosis with a sick Childe and most certainly doesn’t have connection to whatever instant gossip communication that the Tsarista has, is very confused
She’s still under the impression that Furina was a cursed human, archon impersonator, and all around waste of space.
Now her boss and archon she respects is passive agressively trying to get her to introduce her to Furina and mad she’s not in her good books?
WHY????
Her general attitude is to point agressively at Furina eating her cake and going “This is the ONE u want? THIS one?”
Tsarista, sighing dramatically, “She’s perfect”
But Arrlecino is a harbringer, and what her archon wants, goes. So she goes back to fontain and tries to arrange a meetinf with Furina
This is of course, completely rejected, and accompanied by a sternly worded letter from Neuvillette saying that Furina is retired and not to bother her anymore.
Arrlecino tries to just go directly to Furina, but is chased away by some very agressive melusines. Arrlecino didn’t even know Melusines could be agressive
At this point, Arrlecino is getting annoyed. Did all their personal meetings mean nothing to Furina? She spent so much time and money on her favorite cakes!
Sure she tried to kill her, but that was one time! She should be over it by now!
But she hasn’t lost her head yet. It’s tiem to use her trump card. The magic siblings!
Lyney is a bit dubious on their new mission: “make nice to furina at all costs.” After all, their last two interactions with with her were Furina putting lyney on trial, and lyney and the gang putting her on trial. Not exactly easy to bounce back from.
But orders are orders, so they give it a shot.
They start with trying to ask Furina for help on stage management, give her invitations to their shows, etc.
Shared interests are important after all.
Bur Furina is not biting. She’s not good at magic she points out, so she won’t be much help to them and their better off seeking others to aid them.
She does go to their performance, but spends the entire time sandwiched between Navia and Clorinde. When lyney and lynette try to approach her, navia drags them into conversation instead as Clorinde escorts Furina out.
So that’s a no go.
Lynette then decides to take the more direct route, of breaking into Furina’s apartment to reach her. This goes understandably terribly, as Furina does not take well to a cloaked figure standing over her bed, saying “the Tsarista wants to talk to you”
She sends her water familiars to chase lynette away.
At this point Furina is getting very paranoid and the magic siblings are at the end of their rope. They break out their last hope: Freminet.
Sure he’s not the most social, but he’s by far the most adorable (in the twins opinion) and definitely nonthreatening.
Freminet’s turn goes as thus: Furina is sitting on a bench with her water familiars playing around her
Freminet sits next to her on the bench with Pers. He doesn’t look at Furina, instead staring at his feet.
Pers goes over to the water familiars and they start playing together. Furina and Freminet watch
Finally Freminet blurts out. “The Tsarista thinks your cool and wants to be your friend.”
Furina is startled, then switches into celebrity mode. Freminet doesn’t seem to mean any harm, but she doesn’t want to agree. So she sets an impossible task. She informs Freminet that she is a very popular person and if the tsarista wants to see her, she must come in person to Fontaine instead of sending minions.
Freminet nods and thanks her, saying he’ll pass on the message. He tells her Pers had a good time, and Furina smiles, certain that she’s handled the situation perfectly.
Exactly one week later, there’s a knock on her door. Furina opens it to see thr Tsarista dressed like a tourist with a bag of luggage. She informs Furina they are having a “girls” week.
Next thing Furina knows she and thr tsarista are sitting at a super fancy cake shop where the tsarista is piling Furina with all her favorite cakes with a beaming smile on her face.
As she resigns herself to her fate of lots of cake and spa activites with Tevats number one most controversial archon. Furina realizes she now knows where the Fatui get their crazy from

The Cost of the Crown
An inazuma au, because canon has disappointed me, and moral conundrums are fun.
What if Kokomi knew about the delusions?
Think about it: Kokomi is a War general fighting a losing battle against undiscribeable odds. Her home doesn’t have the soil to maintain the kind of food her army needs, she needs every help she can get.
So when the Fatui approach with an offer of a weapon on par with a vision, she’d jump at the chance.
But Kokomi’s no fool. She knows the fatui are only allies for as long as their goals aline, and that doesn’t make them trustworthy. She tests one out on herself and clocks the energy drain right away.
Now an ordinary person would chuck the delusion in the other direction and run at that point, but not Kokomi. She’s desperate. She is very aware that she is fighting a war. And a bloody one at that. Most of her men are going to die. There’s no getting around it. Can she really give up any advantage, no matter how dangerous? Would it be better if her doomed could use that life to get in a few good punches with a delusion before they inevitably succumb?
She decides to test it out. From the fatui stationed nearby she knows some people can weild it longer than others. So she asks Gorou to gather several trusted men, and bring them to her tent.
She then lays down the truth to them, that delusions are dangerous, but could provide a boost in power. She asks them if they are willing to test them out. This is not a mission, she will not order them to risk their lives. It is completely up to them.
The trusted men accept, one of them being Teppei. They are warriors after all, and risking their lives is something they do every day.
Kokomi tries to be cautious. She limits the times each man can use a delusion. Keeps them under lock and key, personally monitors the men’s health to see that the drainage isn’t to bad.
She also asks the traveler, a known weilder of elemental power without a vision, to train the men, so they can master their use quickly and safely.
She tells the traveler of what delusions are and their risks, but she does not tell them she got them from the fatui. The fatui and the traveler share a grudge, and she does not want said grudge to cloud the travelers mind while they train her men.
For a little while, it works. The traveler fights side by side with teppei and the other delusion weilders, and they’re proud of how powerful their students have become
Then it all starts to go wrong.
Teppei starts rapidly aging after a battle, and despite the traveler immediately removing the delusion, it does no good, Teppei dies to quickly to be saved.
The traveler is devistated, wracked with guilt over their hand in Teppei’s fate. They break into Kokomi’s files looking for answers and discover the delusions are from the fatui
Angry, the traveler confronts Kokomi, who is equally devistated at Teppei’s fate. Blaming herself for making a bad call but…
This is war. Men die every day. Sometimes by the thousands. Teppei was one man. He died, but his actions in that battle saved hundreds.
No one knows that better then Kokomi. She’s a war general. Sending men to their deaths is a reality she must face every day.
She tells the traveler the hard truth. This isn’t a fairy tale, or an adventure story. The heroes don’t always succeed. And freedom is a price paid in the blood of soldiers.
Does she want to let the men continue to use the delusions? Of course not! But she gave that choice to the men who hold them. They knew the risks a delusion posed. She could order the men to give them back, she knows they’d listen to her. But as a general, she knows she cannot. Not over the fate of one man.
However, she does know the traveler can pull off miracles. She’s heard what they’ve done in Liyue and Mondstat. So she offers the traveler a deal, strictly off the books. She will confiscate the delusions, for now, If the traveler can successfully find a way to match the delusion’s power in battle.
As a war general, she can only give the traveler a couple of weeks to pull this off. But as the head shrine maiden of Watasumi, she begs the traveler to succeed.
Now the Traveler is doubly motivated. Both to avenge Teppei, who they trained, and to save the rest of Watasumi: from those who would throw their life away on delusions, to the gentle war general who despite everything, has not given up hope.

Mini genshin theory: Hydro = Actors
So i saw a comic a while ago talking about what connected each character to their element. And we know now that a part of the archon’s magic is automatically given to those who fit. And that got me thinking.
What do all the water allogenes have in common with Focolors to resinate with her?
Then it came to me: Acting.
Barbara, a singer and idol, must always act as if she were the happy perfect person her fans believe her to be.
Xingqiu, always acting after his favorite characters in novels, struggling to cope with the expectations placed on him by his family.
Kokomi, a war general who is also a gentle soul, who must appear always in control to keep her troops moral up.
Yelan, always acting, always in disguise, donning any identiy to get the job done
Mona, acting confident and in control when she knows she has no mora and impulsivity that rapidly drains her funds when she gains some
And of course, tartaglia himself, willing to make a total fool of himself just to make his brother look up to him.
Im sure there are other hydro characters but i can’t think of the rest at the moment. The point is: hydro users are actors thanks to Focolors. Furina had to get it from somewhere
