Zuckerberg has officially allowed dozens of popular apps to operate within the realm of his Facebook Messenger. We are talking about 700 million active users that don’t need to leave their, perhaps most used app, to add gifs and videos to conversations, or even shop and find their way around online. The revenue potential is mind-boggling.

It’s very hard for a company with Russian roots to become successful in the  U.S., European and other markets. Nobody trusts us – by default. Our only strategy is to be 1000% transparent and honest. It took years to explain who we are. Many people attempted to find ‘dirt’ on us – and failed. Because we’ve nothing to hide.

Equation and suspicion After my company recently published its research into the most sophisticated cyber-espionage campaign ever seen – that run by the Equation group – I’ve been asked a handful of questions repeatedly: Why did you carry out this research – and publish your findings? EquationDrug is one of the main espionage platforms used by the Equation Group, a highly sophisticated threat actor that has been engaged in multiple CNE (computer network exploitation) operations dating back to 2001, and perhaps as early as 1996. (See full report here [PDF]).
EquationDrug, which is still in use, dates back to 2003, although the more modern GrayFish platform is being pushed to new victims.
It's important to note that EquationDrug is not just a Trojan, but a full espionage platform, which includes a framework for conducting cyberespionage activities by deploying specific modules on the machines of selected victims. The concept of a cyberespionage platform is neither new nor unique. Other threat actors known to use such sophisticated platforms include Regin and Epic Turla.

During my first two weeks of the biochip experience I had time to mull over a lot of things. The deluge of questions from the community pushed this process further: it’s one thing to be left alone with your thoughts and concerns, but when you are constantly bombarded with questions and suggestions, and live in the environment of constant, vivid discussion concerning all aspects of the experiment, it is a totally different story. The questions, at times, tackled serious issues, from emotional comfort to religion.
