I actually DID sketch Louie and Bob, but I'm a bit unhappy with their designs right now. So one of them tomorrow, for real this time. 

In this awesome grown up AU I've been crafting, Maria lives probably the happiest life of the five, adopted by a very loving family (not unlike Judy and Ray). As the first (and possibly only, I haven't decided yet) one to be adopted from the orphanage, she wonders what kinds of lives her friends are leading back there, and hopes to one day go visit them.

I'm still not sure what it is about this damned stupid Christmas special that has me sooooo hooked, but its got me up at 3 AM in the morning learning how to draw humans better. 

Have my first completed TCT (let's fandom it guys) drawing, and possibly the first ever fanart, an older Sarah who, through whatever reasons, (stayed at the orphanage, Judy and Ray died, etc.) is once again living without a family.

I followed this great tutorial, it helped me a lot!

The Christmas Tree (1991) - The Orphans

Hi everybody! I'm bringing back this much-neglected mod blog of mine to make this post and try to spread some of the headcanons I've been developing. 

Like pretty much anyone else exploring this tag, I recently saw Nostalgia Critic's hilarious review of this pretty poorly-made movie, A Christmas Tree, directed by Flamarion Ferreira. 

Like many others, I decided to watch the movie (only 45 minutes -  only slightly longer than the review itself) after seeing the review. My thoughts? He was pretty spot-on in his review, but a lot of his criticisms were more production and animation based...

Call me crazy, but I actually did think the story was good. 

The animation was pretty bad, the voice acting (for the most part, besides Mrs. Mavilda and Louie - who's Louie? Find out below...) was god awful, and the editing was probably the worst offender. But honestly, the story itself wasn't that bad of an idea. I liked many parts of it...

But my favorite aspect(s) BY FAR were the five orphan children. 

Heheh...look at how creepy they are.

I'm not sure what it was, but something about these little bastards struck a chord in me and I've been thinking about them for days. Of course, I wanted to know their names. Looking at the credits of the movie, Mr. Ferreira actually did give them names.

Lily, Pappy, Judy, Ray, Mayor and Helen (The fat woman that Mavilda plays cards with) are all named and obviously onscreen. I'm not sure who "Buzz" is, but I'm assuming its one of the other friends she plays cards with. Mel is not named in either the opening or closing credits, so it may be him, too. That leaves us with Louie, Sarah, Jeff, Maria and Bob. 

"Sarah" is actually said in the movie, when Judy is finished telling the children about Christmas wishes, she says something along the lines of "We'll take turns, starting with you, Sarah", however, the movie shows a shot of the house, and it's not clear who she's talking to. This means there really isn't a way to tell which name belongs to which kid, unless we asked Mr. Ferreira himself. This is most likely impossible, so I've taken it upon myself to name them the names I saw most fitting to the designs. Here are my headcanons.

Let's make some tags for them. For their tags, I'm adding "Hopewell" as their last name. Which makes sense, right?

Jeff

Jeff is the oldest of the five orphans. He's very soft-spoken and not very courageous, however, he's the one most people notice first. He always feels the burden of the other children on his shoulders, like it's his duty to protect them - he's been there the longest, and thinks of each one as family. He rarely acts upon these instincts, however, usually sinking to the back and offering ideas when real conflicts arise. He hopes one day to prove to the others just how much he cares about them. 

Sarah

This one's my personal favorite. 

Sarah is the second oldest of the five orphans, but by far the most mature. She's the only one seen in the movie acting independently, spying on Mrs. Mavilda and trying to warn Judy of her evil plot. In the darkest hours of the orphanage, everyone looks up to Sarah for support. And though he'd never tell her, Jeff is very fond of her. The two of them are close friends. She's the only one in the orphanage who knows exactly what happened to her parents - they died in a car crash while she was in the back seat. 

Louie

Louie is the middle child, and is certainly the most fun-loving! When everyone seems to be in a bad mood, he always tries his best to cheer them up. He can be rather hasty sometimes, even downright reckless, but to the other orphans, he brings much needed excitement to the dull life spent under Mrs. Mavilda's supervision. He's gotten in trouble with Mrs. Mavilda the most over the years, and out of all the children, he considers himself to possess the greatest distaste for her and her limiting rules. 

Side note - I consider the voice actor for Louie to be one of the best in the movie.

Maria

She's a bookworm. Couldn't see that coming, could 'ya? Though it may seem cliched, the fact that she has glasses, possesses the nerdiest look and is the only one to hold a book (to my remembrance) in the entire movie pretty much write her as this sort of character perfectly. Being one of the younger kids, only a bit older than Bob, she's not usually the one to speak, and is probably the only one shyer than Jeff. In any normal social group she might be excluded, but not here - in this closely knit group, everyone always makes sure she feels welcome. 

Bob

Bob is the youngest of the group, yet one of the most spirited, up there with Louie. He's a bit too young to really understand just how dire the situation is - he just knows he has to follow the rules, avoid Mrs. Mavilda and have fun when he can. His outlook on the current situation is the most positive out of all the children, and he always gets excited when he learns about new positive things - he's the first to truly embrace the idea of Santa and Christmas wishes. As he gets older, the other four children will be the closet thing to family he remembers. 

Thanks for reading! I really do like these characters. Whether or not you like or accept my headcanons (or even care), I hope I've at least encouraged you to think up your own! These designs for characters really are cool, and the one thing I regret about the movie is that we never do really learn more about them. 

I am planning to do something regarding these characters and my headcanons, which I will talk about in a later post after I can get some art done. I'll keep you all posted. Once again, let's try to kickstart the "Hopewell" tags!

People that are criticizing your blog right now are absolutely right about most of their points, but you're going under the mindset that what you're doing right now is absolutely perfect. It isn't, and no quality blog should think like that. Thank the kind anons who harp on your artwork and point out your RP flaws, and take them as advice on what to improve upon. Don't just quit tumblr because people don't like what you are right now.

Please check out my new pony creator ask blog

Drawing inspiration from Ivy Leather, which I've promoted several times on this blog, I've made my own "good" pony creator blog. 

The goal in mind was to use the pony creator to it's fullest potential, as Ivy has already done so clearly. Call me a copier, but I think the idea is cool, and I believe that cool blogs can be made with little effort using PC.

The character's name is Lilypad, and she's derived from a character made by another mod, and her special talent is - get this - bullying. This gives me something interesting to work with: how can I turn such a lame and cliche sounding character into something cool and interesting?

I invite you to check out and follow the blog, and tell me how I do. I'll  certainly be trying my hardest to keep the blog almost up to standard with any other normal pony ask blog, as Ivy has done before me. 

And Lily is just a total cutie.
