Now that Eurovision is over, I want you all, especially the Americans, to take a good hard look at how the voting results turned out when people boycotted the event.

In the UK, the viewing figures were down about 2 million people compared to last year. Up to 2 million people made the conscious decision to not watch and not vote because of Israel's inclusion.

The final results of the public vote, Israel came in first place in the UK and got 12 points. Because the only people watching and voting were people who backed Israel or at least didn’t care one way or another.

This doesn't matter. It's a music contest. The boycott was still the right thing to do because it is just a show at the end of the day, and the viewing figures have more impact than the results.

But it is also a good object lesson to show you what happens if you boycott a vote over something that does matter. Choosing not to vote in, let's say, a presidential election will have similar results.

“oh no we need to practice for our fake dating” is the funniest trope to me cause like. there are so many people who force themselves into a shitty relationship they hate just because of amatonormatiivity that it’s an ingrained part of popular culture to joke about hating your partner.

which is to say, oh my god you dont need to hold hands and go on fake dates, you don’t even need to agree on a single detail of your cover story beforehand. you can literally stand 6 feet apart at all times and look profoundly uncomfortable and all anyone will think is “yikes™. not my problem”

I finally, finally made it and posted the 8th chapter! Moiraine and Siuan’s 8th semester is filled with study sessions and picnics with friends, also a party and some serious talk.

I had planned a lot more when I started writing this 2 1/2 years ago, but at the moment I don’t see myself getting this story there. It does have a closed ending with the plotless follow their lives approach from the beginning, and I don’t think there are any fires left smoking any waves to be calmed 🌊, any fish left jumping 🐟. Maybe I will write for this AU again in the future but at the moment this stresses me more than it brings me pleasure, and feels like a step back both I’m writing as in life. So not saying never, but I am saying not soon, for sure.
