Nahvee took his hand, letting him help her to her feet. He was so patient with her and she appreciated it, because it was so rare to find anyone kind or patient around here. She brought a hand to her eyes, wiping under them once more, the tears that had been threatening to fall before had begun to dissipate and she was growing more comfortable around him with each passing minute. He seemed genuine.  She offered him a small smile, giving him a soft nod before taking a step forward so they could start their journey. “I’m sure of it- I could only imagine the things you’ve seen.” she said. Being a journalist, Nahvee knew all too well about the horrendous things that happen around Gotham City and she’s even found herself at a crime scene or two in the past. Nahvee grew quiet as they walked, passing by a few alley ways before she did a double take and gasped softly. She placed a hand on Liam’s arm and came to a stop. “Look, it’s those damn kids-” she said, her voice low enough for the two of them to hear. “That’s my purse. They stole it from me just before you showed up.” she told him, watching as the three of them were digging through the contents.
He could sense the tension in the air begin to lessen and proceeded to try and assist her in relaxing further. His pace was slow as he walked along the side of the sidewalk closest to the road. He went quiet after a moment having never been good at holding conversations and small talk. It was pointless in his opinion but he did what he needed to when he had to. His attention shifted to the alley as she started patting his arm, drawing his attention to the teens digging through her purse like wild animals.
“Hey!” He called, a low growl forming deep in his throat as he left her. “Hand that over now and whatever the contents you may have removed.” His voice was deep, louder than usual thanks to the alleyway. One of the kids cursed, having recognized Liam and took off while the other two stared at the man in shock as he came toward them, fists clenched and gaze fierce. While he didn’t really like hitting kids he wasn’t about to be a push over and let them get away without at least a bit of violence. They probably needed their sorry asses kicked anyway.

Wyatt remained tilted back in his seat, feet propped on the table as if it were his personal ottoman. He brought the cigarette back to his lips, a small puff of smoke rose through the air, gaze shifting away from the older man, watching as strangers past them by. “Yeah yeah, whatever you say.” he said, brushing off the man’s words. Liam always had an array of insults up his sleeves, but Wyatt never let him steal his shine, even if his insults were actually things that Wyatt needed to hear. “You seem like you need to hit the bowl and unwind, my dude.” Wyatt then commented, rolling the cigarette slowly between his fingers in boredom, blue eyes focusing on his fingers as he did so. “Shit, when’s the last time you been laid? Get you a piece of ass too.” He assumed that Liam was some grumpy old man who needed to knock off some of his stress. “Bet you haven’t been to a club since 1912. You should come to my club sometime- it’s pretty dope.”
Even with his venomous words he couldn’t deter this nuisance and wondered if he’d eventually just learn to live with it. Or perhaps he’d get better at ignoring him. Either way, the man provided a challenge, something Liam didn’t get very often and maybe deep, deep, very deep down he did sort of admire the scruffy Rorschach. There was a certain charm at him that brought all kinds of people to him some worth a shit and others as coveted as a bad rash where the sun didn’t shine.
“Tch,” his lip curled up in disgust. While he didn’t mind others doing drugs he preferred to poison his body with alcohol and nicotine. He turned his gaze to Wyatt, his guess not far from the truth. During the roaring twenties he had let loose a bit but a bad experience ruined clubbing and dancing for him ever since. “I prefer not parking in anything that obscures clear thinking and my sex life is none of your business. I am certain you have no issues with either but it is indecent of you to insinuate I am in need of either.”

The wolf sneered slightly at his comment, her arms crossing over her chest as she looked at the man. “None taken,” she replied, sarcasm coating her words. She knew some of her features made her nonhuman.. Like her ears for example, the elven like ears were a give away but she always claimed it was just extreme body modification to someone if they asked.
“I thought I did a pretty good job of hiding my nonhumany features. Not everyone can be as camoflauge as you Mr. Big Bad Wolf,” she chuckled, grinning at him.
Her tone told him everything he needed to know. He was already in the dog house with her and hadn’t even gotten her name. This didn’t come as a surprise as he had never been good at talking with others, especially not others of his own kind. He was curious as to if her features were due to her being a purebred, or a werewolf that had been changed instead of cursed.
“I suppose that could be due to the fact that I am not a born or turned werewolf. Mine is a blood curse,” he admitted. There was no reason to lie as they were still both werewolves and he had no reason to suspect she’d try anything unnecessary. “I do not come across many supernatural beings often so I suppose it is easier for me to not only sniff them out but also see how they stick out. It was not meant as an insult. More as a warning. There are Hunters in these parts.”

Wyatt grew silent for a moment as he contemplated the older man’s words- that he was just some sad and lonely rich man who would eventually die from his drug habit. In reality, it wasn’t much for Wyatt to think over- it was his daily truth. He spent every every single day lonely and drugs only filled the void, giving him a false sense of happiness that kept him going from day to day. Money never bought him happiness, but it bought him drugs- the closest thing to happiness that he’d ever feel. He leaned back in the seat, eyes staying locked on Liam. He pulled a crumpled pack of cigarettes from his pocket and slipped out a cigarette, lighting it as it dangled from his lips, obviously not swayed by the man’s harsh words. “Damn, who put salt on your eggs this morning old man?” he asked. “You sound like your blood pressure high as fuck again, my dude.” he said, smoke streaming from between is lips as he kicked his feet up onto the table, the chair tilting back onto its hind legs as he leaned back carelessly. “I told you IHOP don’t be using no salt when they cook, shoulda went there.”
It annoyed him that the man not only remained at the table but had the gall to joke about his nonexistent high blood pressure and talk about something with salt. Liam assumed it was some new slang he didn’t care to learn about. Gathering his composure, he resumed eating his salad. It was only after he had swallowed a few bites that he finally responded. “You told me to tell you how I truly felt,” his eyes shifted to stare harshly at the capricious man.
“Do not ask questions you do not want the answer to. I do not care to sugar coat anything I say for another adult and while you certainly do not act your age I will not treat you like the child you want to pretend to be. The only thing that gives me high blood pressure now is you.” He finished off before turning his gaze down to the newspaper, folding it over with one hand as he read over the column of stocks.

Nahvee’s eyes showed it all- sadness lingering in the soft brown hues that dropped down to look at her hands as she brushed dirt off from her thighs with her hands. She felt like a broken woman, defeated by the world around her. The city and everyone in it were cruel and in the back of her mind, she was telling herself she shouldn’t take his help- that he would just turn on her like everyone else. Though at this point, she didn’t have much else to lose. She lived in a big apartment complex and she didn’t have to let him walk her to her exact door- just the main doors.  She looked up to him tiredly, listening to his voice as he spoke. The way he held himself and the tone of his voice settled her nerves, especially as he mentioned that he as a private investigator- that he was skilled. She would be safe. “Oh, that’s a really cool sounding job.” she said, offering him her hand to shake. “My name is Nahvee- I’d say it’s nice to meet you but um..” she paused, giving him a soft, tired laugh. “These circumstances suck.” the woman admitted.
He could see the hesitation in her eyes, the hope for a decent person ripped from her time and time again. It was upsetting to see someone so broken down by this hellacious crime ridden city. There were a few decent souls but they were rare and most likely just as beaten as their kindness was taken advantage of over and over. What a shame. He remained still, allowing her to take as long as she needed to have a little bit of faith in him. His fingers slowly wrapped around her hand as he easily assisted her up to her feet, noting how soft and small they were compared to his.
“It can be cool I suppose. I have been doing it for so long it feels like it is just part of my life. I do not believe I will ever look at anything without a scrutinizing eye ever again,” he admitted. Then again, he had always observed everything with a critical eye, seeing things that most easily looked past. “It is quite alright, Nahvee. They are grim circumstances but it will get better.” Liam released her hand and gestured for her to lead the way, curious as to how she had ended up on the ground.

As Liam spoke, Wyatt pulled out the chair across from the table and invited himself to sit down, reaching over and grabbing Liam’s beverage and drinking from it before the other could could snatch it away. As if it was ordered for him. Wyatt was never sure what it was that drew him to Liam, but every time he saw the man out in public, he made it a point to approach him. Perhaps it was merely just because it was a form of attention to be received. Liam’s obvious disdain amused Wyatt. He laughed in response to other’s answer. “A curse? Damn, tell me how you really feel.” he said, leaning back in the seat. For all he could care, he’s the best curse that happened since the curse of Tutankhamen. “I see you got the paper, what’s poppin?” he asked, reaching to try to take the paper from Liam’s hands. He didn’t give a shit about the paper- he just wanted to pester the man.
He sat down, uninvited. This walking and talking Jackson Pollock canvas had the audacity to not only disrupt his meal but also join him when he showed no signs of engaging further. As soon as he took a seat he dropped his hands to the table and stared long and hard at Wyatt with a look that would send most scurrying away. It only intensified when the man snatched his tea and began drinking it. His left eye twitched and he was certain he was about to have a brain aneurysm. Liam was quick to jerk the paper away from Wyatt, uncertain if he could even read but not about to give him anything else.
“You are an annoying and immature man who did not get enough attention as a child and does not know how to cope with real life issues and hides behind humor, drugs, alcohol, and other vices to hopefully cope until the day you finally succumb to your poor life choices. You attach yourself to people because despite having a lot of money you are still lonely. And you are slowly growing to become the bane of my existence.” Liam spoke. The truth hurt and it was wishful thinking but he hoped the man would be offended enough to leave and he could enjoy his food.

devilsdecade:
Another miserable day in the city for Nahvee, a woman who worked as a journalist for the local paper, where her coworkers were god awful and her paycheck teetered on the edge daily. It was late in the evening and she had been walking home from work when a group of teenagers came rushing up on her, pushing her to the ground. They hit her a few times to get her to release her purse just enough for one of them to snatch it away from her and run off with it, leaving her sitting helplessly on the ground of the alley way, leaning against the wall in pain.  She was trying to gather her thoughts and regain her strength before she were to continue her walk home, wiping at her eyes as tears threatened to fall when she noticed a man approaching her. A stranger. She seemed nervous as he approached and asked him to leave her alone. But he didn’t- instead, he insisted that he wanted to help her. Something so unusual in this city. Despite the lack of trust she felt, she took his hand and got to her feet. “I um..” she said, swallowing the lump in her throat. “I don’t want to go to a doctor, I’d rather just go home.” she insisted. She wouldn’t be able to afford it.  “My apartment isn’t far, I could use some help getting there, actually.”
He didn’t like the idea of her not seeing medical help but he wasn’t about to try forcing her. Ultimately, she was an adult and it was her decision and if she felt she could handle it on her own then he was going to allow her to do it. He wasn’t her babysitter and wasn’t about to act like it either. In truth, he was just happy to have her agree to at least help her out some how. Perhaps on their walk to her apartment he could find out what happened and rectify any injustice. He held out his hand for her, waiting to assist her up.
“If you think that is the best idea then I will not push you,” he assured her. His voice softened, wanting to sound more warm and welcoming. It would hopefully ease her into contentment and open her up a bit more. “I work as a private investigator so if anyone tries to do anything I promise I will deal with them. But I do not believe it will be an issue. Most people tend to avoid me. I believe they know who I am and what I am capable of,” he granted her a rare smile to again, ease her mind. “My name is Liam Graves. What is yours?”

“ who told you that?! i didn’t say that! “
“No one had to tell me that,” he responded, slightly amused by her reaction. Bringing the cigarette up to his lips he took a drag, filling his lungs with the toxic smoke. He absolutely hated the smell and taste of the damn things but the way the nicotine curbed his aggression was far too valuable for him to give up the things. Not only that but his regenerative abilities made it harder for his cells to mutate into cancer.
“I can smell it on you. People who work with wolves and dogs carry the scent on them. It is mixed with their own smell but the scent is all you. That and your appearance. No offense but you stick out like a sore thumb among humans,” he looked down at her.

“ what did you just say? “ (Jax)
Damn he hated having to repeat himself, consider it a pet peeve of his. However, he knew the younger man was probably in shock. Exhaling slowly, Liam rolled his neck, gathering his strength to not sound agitated about repeating it once more. His piercing blue gaze found Jax and stared at him calmly for a moment.
“I said I know what you are and this is no place for you,” he spoke coolly, relaxing his body so to seem less intimidating, a bit hard considering his stature. He knew the younger man was a werewolf as he was able to smell the familiar stench of wolf on him. It had been some time since he’d come across another and was beginning to believe they were a dying breed. A blessing really. “What is your name?”

“ so , how does it feel to know me? a blessing , isn’t it? “ (Wyatt)
The man’s expression did not shift in the slightest as he stared at the graffiti board of a man. Had he not been seated outside the deli attempting to enjoy his lunch he would have stood up and walked off without another word. Why Wyatt had such a fascination with him was beyond his comprehension. All he knew was that just seeing or hearing Wyatt had the voice in his head screaming in disdain. Perhaps if he ignored the man he’d get bored and go on his way. No. He’d already tried that three times this past week. No, he was about as bad as genital warts; always appearing at the worse times and outstaying his welcome.
Exhaling audibly through his nose he finished unfolding his napkin and placed it in his lap before shifting in his seat. “I would say it is more of a curse than a blessing,” he spoke, picking up his fork and beginning to eat his salad, turning his attention to the paper before him.

“ please just … leave me alone. “ (angel, far cry 3)
A frown formed on his face, dark brows pushing upward together. There was nothing he disliked more than seeing someone in distress and the stranger was certainly disturbed by something. Their muscles tense beneath their skin. And he could not blame him. They were on a shit hole of an island with some deranged man running around as if he were in some survival video game that he was king of. It was unsettling but he was not his problem. Neither was Angel but he wasn’t the type to leave someone in need of help alone.
“I am afraid I cannot do that,” he apologized, straightening up, turning his gaze upward. Liam squinted against the bright sun as his arms crossed over his broad chest. He looked back down at Angel, features softening in hopes of easing them into cooperating. “I do not plan on being here longer than I need to. I would like to assist you if possible.”

“ who do you think you are? “ (Ellie)
Her demanding tone alone was enough to vex enough to want to turn on his heels and walk away but understood. He understood that he had lived in a world that wasn’t a complete shit storm around the clock and she had probably done acts that would haunt her dreams for years to come. She came off as tough and fiery but in his eyes still just a scared kid who put up a front to protect herself. He’d seen it before in his own daughter.
“The name is Liam. And I am the man that just saved your life,” he replied. His dark eyes fell from her to look at the thin wire, only visible at the right angle, that stretched the length of a doorway. Certain she had spotted it as well, he turned his attention back to her. “And who might you be? Kids should not be running around alone out here. It is far too dangerous.” The man crossed his arms over his broad chest, patiently awaiting an answer.

“Please just … leave me alone. “
The city seemed to be perpetually dark; even during the day the skyscrapers and buildings loomed over the people below. It was truly a miserable place to live even more so after the rate of crime spiked to record highs. And if that wasn’t bad enough the damn criminals had become even more insane with toxins that made them ungodly strong, gas that allowed people to see their darkest fears, and deranged clowns orchestrating it all. So when he actually found an innocent that looked like they need assistant he couldn’t just turn his back.
“I’m afraid I cannot do that, ma’am,” he took a drag of his cigarette, exhaling the smoke slowly, thick tendrils swirling upward. He walked closer to the woman before offering his hand to help her off the grimy streets. “I can’t just leave a dame on the street. You don’t have to tell me what happened if you don’t want to but I definitely suggest we get you to a doctor to clean and dress your wounds.”
