“Who is Fashion Revolution, and why should we care?”
“Fashion Revolution is a global movement that runs all year long.
We celebrate fashion as a positive influence while also scrutinising industry practices and raising awareness of the fashion industry’s most pressing issues. We aim to show that change is possible and encourage those who are on a journey to create a more ethical and sustainable future for fashion.
Fashion Revolution strives to be action-oriented and solution focused. Rather than making people feel guilty, we help them recognise that they have the power to do something to make a positive change.”
Fashion Revolution is a force for good, made up of people who love fashion and the industry at large. However, since the Rana Plaza disaster - a factory collapse in 2013 which killed 1138 people - the Fashion Revolution team has been striving to share their message with the whole world, urging viewers, readers and listeners to take action. Exactly what action… it varies. The action could be to read their manifesto or share one of their posters via Instagram stories. What I want to do, is strengthen those actions with real-life to-do’s, in order to make it simpler to take the action than to not. But, unless we take a stronger, more clearly defined stand towards the excessive production in the fashion industry, our favourite brands will continue paying their workers less than $2 per day to make more profit.
Without a movement like Fashion Revolution, we as consumers would be mindlessly investing more and more into the damage done by our current fashion industry, as we do now. But Fashion Revolution is not here to judge. We’re asking you to join the revolution!
The aim of working alongside Fashion Revolution is to stir up some excitement within the consumer market, educate them as to how they can make a difference and urge them to stand up to fashion, for the love of fashion.
