New sketches looking interesting. It's getting a little too amorphous though, which I need to reign back in. It was also suggested to me to work completely digitally, so I could try these modifications quickly.

My professor liked the ones I wasn’t very sure about, so maybe I'll try to delve into it more so I can learn to like it as well.

Still really worried about this one.

I photographed at the Gucci Museo last week, and although I was given some trouble while initially trying to interview docents, one was happy to talk to me. I plan to go back to continue to interview more of them. However, from talking to her, I think my project will be less about the locals, and more about how I am in a hometown of a brand that has now become global. I think it matters somewhat that the brand was founded here in Florence, but I also think it doesn't in a lot of ways. It belongs to everyone now, which I constantly am reminded of by how many tourists come to see the museum and the differing nationalities of the people who work there.

I am scheduled to interview leather workers at the famous school of leather this coming Thursday. Although its not directly related to Gucci, I think its important to explore as much as this city had to offer me in terms of collecting research on Gucci's place in the modern world. It started here, didn't it?

I mean, if you think about it. Sneakers was something equally loved and successful by mostly everyone. It was practical, yet always exuded something of a mood. Whether is was the athletic prowess Nike offered you or the fun-loving Keds, it would sell sneakers short to say they were anything but a potential diamond in the rough in the fashion industry. It's not the only widely used item to be appropriated as such.

What if high fashion is all about editing? Taking a mood, and capturing that?

Maybe this is how I should see my exhibition, and the transition for sneakers of this saturated market to this world of high fashion. Someone found the nuggets of potential within it all. That's how anything becomes fashionable, really.

Last class consisted of a number of sketches being produced, digital and handwritten, as a way to keep narrowing down our idea. Bella and I looked at all of our sketches and we began to narrow down based heavily on the strength linked to my conceptual concept. It was suggested to me to:

Icon approaches, incorporating imagery?

Work more into the concept - really critically think about what's there and why it is there, and more specifically, what am I trying to say about these two stages of life between the sneaker's development? What does that pathway look like?

More on this topic, maybe I am referencing two different things, from classic to modern and contemporary. Who are these two players, what is their visual language? Currently I'm very much in the contemporary sphere, so I think it's time to go back in time and look at older examples of sneakers/type/advertisements and get an idea of where it all started.

Lastly, it was suggested to me to consider how things are edited in the world of fashion, to perhaps suggest some sort of process for how I visualize this change in how we shifted our interpretation of sneakers, or to maybe see how I could edit my own ideas down. We'll see.
