Thinking of the larger context of LOTR and like, the fellowship swapping old war stories and shit and Sam just says “Yeah I killed a huge spider…Shelob, I think?”
And Gandalf just blinks and is like, “You what now?”
“Yeah, killed it. Had to save Frodo”
Gandalf elects not to tell Sam that he killed the spawn of a primordial demon.

New discourse: it's actually predatory to date someone with a different star sign than you, because the differences in your personalities means you'll never be able to have exactly the same life experiences, thus leaving a knowledge and power gap between the two of you which will inevitably lead to an abusive relationship!
also if you're a Sag and you're dating a Taurus, that means you're secretly seeking a May-December relationship, which is age gap coded!

in my head the star wars equivalent of tswift is some human woman named tay’lor spiff or something and her stans are losing their minds over theories that she’s secretly a jedi singing about the horrors of war, even though she’s from a neutral system that hasn’t seen so much as a moral panic in 50 years

You know what would fix every problem the avatar LA has? Like that it’s trying to be adult and Edgy™️, how it’s trying to compress an episodic 20 episode season into a streamlined 8 episode season, it struggles to translate Katara’s feminism and Sokka’s sexism, and honestly how it just lacks a reason to exist?
they should have just adapted korra!
it’s already has older characters and is at its strongest when it deals with more adult themes. The episode count is much closer to a typical Netflix run, and the seasons are less episodic and sprawling. It doesn’t actively tackle sexism, so no weird hand wringing about characters going through arcs to become less sexist.
Also… while I do like Korra, it is widely regarded as much weaker than ATLA. I think a live action would give the show runners opportunities to address criticisms and also make Korra and Asami gayer earlier

I think these two scenes are very telling. First of all, the similarity foreshadows Korrasami nicely and that’s fun, but I want to dig a little deeper.
(Trigger Warning: Depression)
We see Korra at two low points. She’s been damaged. Amon took her bending away. Zaheer left her unable to walk. Both traits are things that Korra sees as defining her identity as the Avatar. Without these things, she cannot be the person that she believes she should be. She no longer feels that she can be of value to the world. She has lost a large part of her own self-worth.
While the sadness following Amon’s attack is merely a microcosm of the depression that follows Zaheer’s, we see the same aspect of Korra’s character. When the people who love Korra reach out to her, she withdraws. Bereft of love for herself, she feels unworthy in accepting the love of others. She sees herself as being a burden to them. She tells Mako, “Go back to Republic City. Don’t do me any favors.” She tells Asami, “You don’t need to follow me to the Southern Water Tribe. I’ll be fine on my own.” And she has learned from her experience with Mako that expounding upon her feelings of inadequacy would only make Asami that much more determined to help Korra. But Korra doesn’t want her friends and loved ones to waste any more time on someone like her; she wants them to get on with their lives. Later we see Korra sulking over the letters from her friends. They’re all moving on and making a difference in the world. And it hurts. It’s what she wanted for them; she pushed them toward it by distancing herself. But it still hurts that she can’t be part of it.
This speaks to me on a personal level. This is what depression does. You don’t feel like you’re worth anybody’s time and effort. You feel like you’re a burden to the people who care about you. And so you push them away, for their own good. And then you’re miserable because they have a life and you don’t. And you’re miserable because you’re all alone now.
When I was at my lowest point, I spent a lot of time convincing myself that I was a burden to anyone who cared for me. I withdrew from the few friendships I had. I thought that if I removed myself from the lives of my loved ones, I would be setting them free. Seeing this kind of thing depicted on a television show really means a lot to someone with experiences like mine. It’s one of the many reasons why this show fills me with so much hope. Even in clawing my way out of depression, I never would have predicted that I would feel such positive emotions again in my lifetime. Knowing that these kinds of empowering stories are being told gives me confidence that there really is a capacity and potential for good things to happen in this world.
I know I post a lot about Korrasami, but what I love about the Avatar Universe is that “canon queer women of color” is just another drop in the bucket. These stories are important. These are stories of healing, of acceptance, of enduring hardships, of becoming stronger and bettering yourself over time. I’m tremendously thankful that these stories are a part of my life and thankful for the very fact that they exist at all. Having this kind of influence in my life, having a hero like Korra to look up to, truly gives me strength.
