You're a 43 year old gay cop who's blind without his glasses, has back problems, wears historical cosplay to work, is a consummate professional who's married to his car and takes way too much pleasure in being a party pooper.

You're not exactly prime dating material and on top of that there's probably a lot of racist weirdos out there in the dating pool you're getting sick of bumping into.

But then up and saunters this sloppy ass bear, he's a weirdo and a fucking absolute mess who can't even remember what money is, but he's an incredibly intelligent and talented detective.

he's also weirdly kind if not incredibly creepy but he makes you laugh and gets you to enjoy yourself when you normally wouldn't and then all of a sudden he is absolutely enamoured with you, transfixed even, who thinks you're not only too good for him, but you're deserving of the best possible person and he recognizes this and he's desperately willing to do literally anything to be good enough for you. And you're over here thinking about how you've been settling for less than your worth and at least this wet dog of a man is not only recognizing your worth but seeing you as more valuable than you've ever dared to see yourself.

i think "it takes a village" shouldn't be just "to raise a child". we should understand it takes a village to do literally everything we do. all day every day. without our communities we would not have drinking water or electricity or clean streets or food or shelter or anything. we cannot do any thing alone. we just can't. and with that comes the fact that you are not alone. you already have a community, seek to be an active part of it, you will feel better. reach out and thank them, they're happy to have you too. i promise. it takes a village to live.

I love when fiction makes the audience feel guilty about their role as the audience. When something fucked up is treated as a joke but later it's recognised how fucked up it was and the audience feels guilty for finding it funny. When a character breaks the fourth wall to plead for help, and you can't do anything so you just watch. And you know that the characters pain isn't real, but they're begging for help and you're not helping because their suffering is entertainment for you

#ive been thinking about this sort of thing lately #and tbh it usually falls flat to me #specifically in theater (and specifically with direct address) #like if im in the theater and a character turns to the audience and is like “why arent you doing anything? why are you just sitting there” #it feels a little silly bc its like #bc this is a play! #this is what im supposed to do as an audience member! #im not just gonna... what? #get up and try to change the story? #leave in protest in how these fictional characters are treated? #no im gonna watch and feel the things the writers/actors/designers/etc are trying to get me to feel #ive been thinking about it bc i just saw sleep no more for the second time #and the one time i really got the “guilty audience member” thing #was the first time i saw snm #and idek if it was intentional #(for those who dont know: sleep no more is a work of interactive theater loosely based on macbeth) #(where the audience all wears masks and walks around a 5-story location where several scenes are happen simultaneously) #(the story is mostly told through dance and movement and theres almost no dialogue) #(and you can follow around an actor or examine the set or just wait for stuff to happen or whatever) #(ANYWAY) #theres a scene with lady macbeth in the sanitarium #(its the out damn spot scene) #shes stripped by a nurse and is made to take a bath #and she is naked and vulnerable and screaming #it was one of the first things i saw from the show #(the show loops 3 times and entrances are staggered btw) #and i was just struck by being part of this group of faceless people #just standing around and watching this horrible vulnerable moment #bc while we still couldnt actually *do* anything to change the story obviously #the audience still had a lot more agency than in a normal play
