Art class

Katia and I have spent the last months helping out in Carmen's Friday art classes. We both spent our activity afternoons with her in this class so it's a pleasure to be back and see young talent emerge. To share the knowledge we have gained and lift a bit of weight from Carmen's shoulders is most rewarding. I also enjoy spending time with Katia and seeing how she develops as some sort of teacher. Her kindness and tact surely make her a great teacher. I feel incredibly proud of all the young girls drawing and their great art skills. I truly hope we will be able to keep up this project for a long time.

Katia y yo hemos pasado los últimos meses ayudando en las clases de arte de los viernes de Carmen. Ambas pasamos nuestras tardes de actividades con ella en esta clase, por lo que es un placer volver y ver surgir jóvenes talentos. Compartir lo que nosotras ya hemos aprendido y quitarle un poco de peso de encima a Carmen es muy gratificante. También disfruto al pasar tiempo con Katia y ver cómo se desarrolla como una especie de profesora. Su amabilidad y tacto hacen de ella una magnifica maestra con mucho futuro. Me siento increíblemente orgullosa de todas las chicas que dibujan y de sus habilidades artísticas. Realmente espero que podamos continuar con este proyecto durante mucho tiempo para ver como crecen y poder aprender algo nuevo cada semana.

The Glass

To challenge myself, I have decided to paint my first painting on a black background and bringing out the lights. By making this painting I have learned many techniques about light and colors. It has been a complete change of perspective and I am very proud of the result. The lights in the glass and the fall of the wine have undoubtedly been the most difficult part of the painting and have affected my most perfectionist side. Using various shades of red and bottle green has also limited my palette, so I have forced myself to explore new techniques. I am excited to continue trying new ideas and developing my passion for painting.

La Copa

Para retarme, he decidido pintar mi primer cuadro en un fondo negro y sacando las luces. Al hacer este cuadro he aprendido muchas técnicas sobre la luz y los colores. Ha sido un cambio completo de perspectiva y estoy muy orgullosa del resultado. Las luces de la copa y la caída del vino han sido sin duda lo más difícil del cuadro y han afectado a mi lado más perfeccionista. Usar varios tonos de rojo y verde botella también ha limitado mi paleta, por lo que me he obligado ha explorar nuevas técnicas. Estoy emocionada por poder seguir probando nuevas ideas y por desarollar mi pasión por la pintura.

Thanksgiving workshops

To celebrate thanksgiving, a workshop for children was organised. It was a pleasure to assist and I enjoyed it as usual. Working with little kids is always a breath of fresh air from the hectic study life. I hope I can keep working on these workshops to keep meeting spectacular people and enjoying myself.

Para celebrar el día de acción de gracias se organizó un taller para niños. Fue un placer ayudar y lo disfruté como siempre. Trabajar con niños pequeños es siempre un soplo de aire fresco frente a la agitada vida de estudio. Espero poder seguir trabajando en estos talleres para seguir conociendo gente espectacular y disfrutando.

Badminton

My friend and I have applied to badminton for the Olympics, hopefully, we will get picked. Nevertheless, we have taken time almost every week to practice the sport and I can feel my skill level increase. I am very proud of how things are working out and i wish to continue with this sport in the future.

Mi amiga y yo nos hemos apuntado a bádminton para las olimpiadas de las rozas y, con suerte, nos elegirán. De todas maneras, casi todas las semanas nos hemos tomado un tiempo para practicar el deporte y puedo sentir que voy mejorando. Pádel

Mi hermano es un gran aficionado del pádel y no deja de hablar de lo divertido que es, así que para celebrar el regreso de Aurora de Canadá y probar algo nuevo, decidimos jugar al pádel. ¡Definitivamente fue una experiencia divertida y sorprendentemente mi nivel de habilidad no fue nulo! Una forma saludable de reforzar amistades y hacer ejercicio. Lo recomiendo.

Padel

My brother is a big fan of the sport and won't stop talking about how much fun it is, so, to celebrate Aurora's return from Canada and to try something new we decided to play Padel. It was definitely a fun experience and my skill level was surprisingly not null! A healthy way of bonding and exercising, would recommend.

Transhumanism Poster

In philosophy, we have discussed transhumanism and we were asked to find some creative way to represent our vision of the human of the future. Digital design has always seemed interesting to me and this was the perfect opportunity to test myself. So, I designed these posters, used two photos of models, cut out the background, and added all my ideas. I was not satisfied with the first and created a second. I am proud of my results.

El diseño digital siempre me ha parecido interesante y esta era la oportunidad perfecta para ponerme a prueba. Así que, diseñé estos posters, use dos fotos de modelos, recorte el fondo y añadí todas mis ideas. No me contenté con el primero y creé un segundo. Estoy orgullosa de mis resultados.

Preparation of hallway signs

To decorate the hallway of the psychology department, we have prepared some posters rescuing photos from previous years of photography classes. I was excited about this project because I participated in the photography activity, so seeing the forgotten photos again has excited me and reminded me of how far I have come. Also, the hallway has turned out beautiful.

Para decorar el pasillo del departamento psicología, hemos preparado unos carteles rescatando las fotos de años anteriores de las clases de fotografía. Me ha ilusionado este proyecto porque participé en la actividad de fotografía así que volver a ver las fotos ya olvidadas me ha emocionado y recordado lo lejos que he llegado. Además, el pasillo ha quedado precioso.

This month's episodes

We have started our podcast with two very different episodes, experimenting with different methods.

Our first episode exposed different websites we deem useful for studying. Although it is a bit tiresome to listen to i think it is a good collection of useful websites that our listeners can access through the description of the podcast. This episode was recorded long-distance which has created a lot of issues for us and is noticeable throughout the episode, giving it a cold and distant feeling.

The second episode was more sentimental and recorded in spanish. We share the fears and insecurities we have and have been facing lately. This episode is fantastic since it allows our listeners to not feel alone and understand that we are all going through similar problems. It is also beneficial to us since Irene and I have been able to voice our thoughts, a good exercise to understand ourselves and bring different perspectives to the table that result in a more wholistic analysis of our emotions.

Overall, im very happy with how the start of the podcast went and am looking forward to how it will develop.

Hemos comenzado nuestro podcast con dos episodios muy diferentes, experimentando con diferentes métodos.

Nuestro primer episodio expuso diferentes sitios web que consideramos útiles para estudiar. Aunque es un poco aburrido de escuchar, creo que es una buena colección de sitios web útiles a los que nuestros oyentes pueden acceder a través de la descripción del podcast. Este episodio fue grabado a larga distancia, lo que nos ha creado muchos problemas y se nota durante todo el episodio, dándole una sensación fría y distante.

El segundo episodio fue más sentimental y grabado en español. Compartimos los miedos e inseguridades que tenemos y hemos estado enfrentando últimamente. Este episodio es fantástico ya que permite a nuestros oyentes no sentirse solos y comprender que todos estamos pasando por problemas similares. También es beneficioso para nosotros ya que Irene y yo hemos podido expresar nuestros pensamientos, un buen ejercicio para entendernos a nosotros mismos y poner sobre la mesa diferentes perspectivas que resultan en un análisis más holístico de nuestras emociones.

En general, estoy muy contento con cómo fue el inicio del podcast y espero con ansias cómo se desarrollará.

Physical activity

Thanks to the school's efforts I have been able to do physical activity. I don't usually play sports and I think this year is my opportunity to try new things in the field of sports. Although I haven't made any changes in my life regarding exercise this first trimester because I've been focusing on academics, I have a few ideas in mind about things I want to try, like badminton, yoga, and hiking.

The hours of physical education have been very entertaining since we not only do sports but Borja explains to us how the body works and talks to us about sports culture. All this makes our classes holistic.

Gracias a los esfuerzos del centro he podido hacer actividad física. No suelo hacer deporte y creo que este año es mi oportunidad para probar cosas nuevas en el ámbito del deporte. Aunque este primer trimestre no he hecho ningún cambio en mi vida respecto al ejercicio porque me he centrado en el ámbito académico, tengo varias ideas en mente sobre cosas que quiero probar, como el badminton, el yoga y el senderismo.

Las horas de educación física han sido muy entretenidas ya que no solo hacemos deporte sino que Borja nos explica como funciona el cuerpo y nos habla sobre cultura del deporte. Todo esto hace que nuestras clases sean holísticas.

Recycling boxes I

The school is collaborating with a company to collect unused plastics (like used pens, tipex or glue) which are then recycled and exchanged for money that will be donated to charity.

It is a very fun and simple idea that allows me and my friends to explore our creativity while helping out others. Ive always enjoyed painting and it is a pleasure to put those skills to good use. I believe this activity is very important for everyone since it reuses materials that are normally thrown away and creates beautiful results with very little effort.

Cajas de reciclaje I

La escuela está colaborando con una empresa para recoger plásticos no utilizados (como bolígrafos, tipex o pegamento usados) que luego se reciclan y se canjean por dinero que se donará a organizaciones benéficas.

Es una idea muy divertida y sencilla que nos permite a mis amigos y a mí explorar nuestra creatividad mientras ayudamos a los demás. Siempre me ha gustado pintar y es un placer poner en práctica esas habilidades. Creo que esta actividad es muy importante para todos ya que reutiliza materiales que normalmente se desechan y crea hermosos resultados con muy poco esfuerzo.

Breast Cancer Fundraiser III

After all our hard work, it was time to finally put everything into action. We have been selling our products during the short morning break and collecting the money.

It has been very stressful and tiring, even though I wasn't in charge of organising the whole ordeal, i felt the stress my classmates were under myself. Regardless, im very happy with how things turned out since it was a learning experience for everyone. I believe this has given us a deeper understanding of commitment and the results it has.

Después de todo nuestro trabajo, finalmente llegó el momento de poner todo en acción. Hemos estado vendiendo nuestros productos durante el recreo de la mañana y recaudando el dinero.

Ha sido muy estresante y agotador, aunque yo no estaba a cargo de organizar el proyecto, sentí el estrés que soportaban mis compañeros. De todos modos, estoy muy contenta con cómo resultaron las cosas, ya que todos podemos aprender de esta experiencia. Creo que esto nos ha dado una comprensión más profunda del compromiso y los resultados que tiene.

Breast Cancer Fundraiser II

To explain and raise awareness about breast cancer, some of my classmates and i have been going around the school to talk about breast cancer and explain the whole project.

It was a wonderful feeling to get to explain to the kids how the world works and how they can help those in need. Having the attention of a group of students willing to learn is very fulfilling and exciting. Hopefully I will get more opportunities like this to enjoy activities with children.

Para explicar y concienciar sobre el cáncer de mama, algunos de mis compañeros y yo hemos estado recorriendo el colegio para hablar sobre el cáncer de mama y explicar todo el proyecto.

Fue una sensación maravillosa poder explicarles a los niños cómo funciona el mundo y cómo pueden ayudar a los que lo necesitan. Tener la atención de un grupo de estudiantes con ganas de aprender es muy gratificante y apasionante. Ojalá tenga más oportunidades como esta para disfrutar de actividades con niños.

Promotional video

Along with Eugenia and Sandra, I have had the pleasure to work on a promotional video for the school, explaining the ongoing and future projects in the school, related mostly to the TIC subject. We have created this video to let the school apply for a prize of a 3D printer and two robotic kits.

I have enjoyed the experience very much and am proud of what we have created. I love being able to work with my friends because i truly believe that amazing things can never be achieved alone.

Junto a Eugenia y Sandra, he tenido el placer de trabajar en un vídeo promocional del colegio, explicando los proyectos en curso y futuros del colegio, relacionados mayoritariamente con la materia TIC. Hemos creado este vídeo para que la escuela pueda solicitar el premio de una impresora 3D y dos kits de robótica.

He disfrutado mucho la experiencia y estoy orgullosa de lo que hemos creado. Me encanta poder trabajar con mis amigas porque realmente creo que nunca se pueden lograr cosas maravillosas solo.

My classmates and I have been working hard to prepare this upcoming event to raise funds destined to an organisation battling breast cancer. I have had the pleasure to experience this journey, realising in the process my privileged state as a completely healthy young girl. I find myself overjoyed by being able to add my own tiny grain of sand to this big project. Hopefully all will go well during the campaign days.

Start of something new

We finally posted our very first Pilot episode for our podcast! I was terribly excited for this moment to come, both Irene and I have dreamed of this project for more than two years and I am thrilled to finally see a glimpse of what the future awaits.

Although we have had to push through several issues to get on the right path we have finally taken our first step! I have found the wait very worthwhile, for direction matters more than speed.

I am proud to be a part of this exhilarating journey that will not only help us learn and try something brand new but hopefully guide others through the IB. Speaking of, last Friday I had a splendid encounter with a friend from 4th ESO who asked me about the podcast and thanked me for giving them a gateway into the IB world since they are interested in coursing it. When I offered them a first-hand insight into the diploma program they smiled, relieved, which filled my heart with the determination to reach out and guide as many troubled students as possible; so watch out IB world, a new challenger has appeared!

¡Finalmente publicamos nuestro primer episodio piloto para nuestro podcast! Estaba muy emocionada por que llegase este momento, tanto Irene como yo hemos soñado con este proyecto durante más de dos años y estoy emocionada por, al fin, vislumbrar lo que nos espera en el futuro.

Aunque hemos tenido que superar varios obstáculos para ir por el camino correcto, ¡finalmente hemos dado el primer paso! He descubierto que la espera vale la pena porque la dirección importa más que la velocidad.

Estoy orgullosa de ser parte de este apasionante viaje que no solo nos ayudará a aprender y probar algo nuevo, sino que, con suerte, guiará a otros navegantes del IB. Hablando de eso, el viernes pasado tuve un encuentro espléndido con una amiga de 4º de la ESO que me preguntó sobre el podcast y me agradeció por brindarle una puerta de entrada al mundo del IB ya que está interesada en cursarlo. Cuando les ofrecí información de primera mano sobre el programa diploma, sonrió aliviada, llenando mi corazón con la determinación de guiar a tantos estudiantes con dudas como sea posible, así que cuidado mundo del IB: ¡ha aparecido un nuevo challenger!
