That's my headcanon now, or else *that* ep is both happy, but also very bittersweet, and maybe even a bit heartbreaking...he finally took a pause, found some happiness, and this is why I'm so, so happy for him, and everyone around him. But *she's* not with him. Rose isn't. And she should be❤️❤️

something about how rose tyler gets mentioned after she's gone more times than any other companion does, but she's never mentioned to the doctor, just around them, and always in indirect ways. jack telling yaz about rose, donna calling for her daughter rose, war doctor addressing bad wolf girl, etc. hell, half the time it's not even actually rose tyler being mentioned. something something representative of rose tyler's existence in a parallel world, living with the doctor but not this doctor, relegated–in this universe–to only fleeting halfway mentions that the doctor can barely catch onto before they're gone

god nine was so fucking in love with rose. "i'm so glad i met you." "i could save the world but lose you." dancing with her and not realizing they'd been teleported because he was so besotted. "i only take the best. i've got rose." hating literally every other man she so much as glanced at. i am fully convinced that nine had so little self control when it came to his love for her, and if he had not regenerated he would have acted on it a thousand percent. i main tenrose but ninerose hits so different. i absolutely love them
