Hanna Fideli Nordqvist- "Oil is my primary medium. My motifs are studies of the human being, both the physical appearance and the ability of the psyche to leave marks on the shell and shape of the body.
I enjoy the sensation of looking at one of my paintings and recognizing the shapes as something familiar while simultaneously experiencing them as something twisted or amplified, like an alternate reality.
The images address being human and relating to our fellow humans and our environment—and collecting these experiences with all of our cognitive abilities. They merge memories and environments with the minds and bodies of the individuals being portrayed: sleeping siblings, a remembered body, the motions of people who live so close together that their movements are extensions of one another other, behaviors repeated over time.
The images are all painted with a size zero brush in a technique that evokes a sense of structure: from a distance, a homogeneous surface, but up close, a milling texture of strokes.”
Title: Science of sleep I, oil on canvas, 84 x 164, 2012
