To infinity, and beyond! An older picture of G, but it encapsulates what a cool dude he is turning into. He loves to dive off of the couch and face plant on the soft cushions. Months ago I broke out the camera to take his photo. We must have done 30 takes of this. Him jumping. Me shooting. He loved it. Just like his father (the photo of me is from about 5 years ago). I really should set something up where we are both doing action poses. I need to explore this further.

Jodi and I took the puppers out for a lovely little hike over the weekend; Flatrock to Torbay. Great views, easy terrain. 10/10 would recommend.  *Dan

I want more of the the Vader we saw in Rogue One. Imagine a somewhat serious Star Wars film with the lego treatment.
Welcome back, Matt!

Well. Its been a while. Like, almost 5 years. Blogging, and specifically photo blogging was a big part of my life for a long time. Every day, take a photo, edit, post. For years on end. Then kids happened. It’s funny how fast you lose track of time and routine, and generate new routines that dominate your life. Kids will do that to you. We had a website that we let go to waste - RIP mattanddanfromnewfoundland.com - but everything we posted there cross posted to the old faithful, photoandfilmaday. Dan told me he wanted to fire up the old blog again, get the creative juices flowing. I was jealous. Jealous of having the ability to do that. Jealous of having anything that resembled free time for self fulfilling activities. But then Dan said “Shoot when you can, edit when you can, post when you can”. So I’ve done just that. I had my camera by my side today, and it felt so foreign. How do I adjust aperture again? I can’t shoot in manual, I’d be lost. Even though it felt strange, there was comfort in it. That camera never left my side for years. I need to use it more. I need to do this more. For a variety of reasons. So for today, I will try and shoot when I can, edit when I can, and post when I can. I am hopeful I will get an opportunity to post again before 2025. Today, I present my kids.

One minute it’s sunny. The next you can’t see the trail ahead of you. How’s that for a COVID analogy? Stay safe on the trail and in the streets! *DS

Hi there, friend, thanks for stopping by! I’m eagerly trying to get back into shooting and posting daily, for me. I’ve missed shooting, and doing it daily. I don’t think I’ll necessarily be shooting daily, but I hope to be posting daily. And who knows, there might be some content from my co-blogger and best friend. Matt wants to get back into shooting and posting, but with two kiddos and a demanding job, he doesn’t have a whole lot of time for creative endeavours, but with enough encouragement from friends and family he might get back into it.  This is The Battery in St. John’s shot from the trail heading out to Fort Amherst through fog that was in and out and in and out and in over the 8 frigid minutes I was watching and waiting for a photo to present itself. This isn’t exactly what I wanted to make, but it’s pretty close. This was taken on May 18 300mm f/11 15s ISO 200 Processed in Lightroom

Leading to the sea
I haven't posted here in almost 2 month, still shooting and posting more often on Instagram (@dansmith709). Saturday night was calm and there was a gorgeous sunset, as usual, over Conception Bay.

Flying Close to the Sun
A huge bird, possibly a cormorant, was flying towards the sun this morning as I watched it crawl over the horizon from the point in The Gut. It was a glorious morning; the sun was blazing, there was no wind or drizzle, and there were hundreds of birds. While the majority of my feathered friends were seagulls, there were also a bunch of ducks, at least one other cormorant, an eagle, ravens, crows, little songbirds; it was great way to start an extra-long weekend.  *Dan

I haven't posted here in a while. This blog has turned into more of place to drop some thoughts with an image or two. I've been shooting a fair bit and dumping a few things on the gram (@dansmith709 add ya boy).  After work today Bigg-E and I went down to Middle Cove beach to shoot the rolling tide. A beautiful dog followed us around the whole time we were there. He was alone, but I've seen him at the beach there before. He was also huge.

Shutting Down Hot Noods
After an amazing few hours of listening to photographer Dave Howells at a meeting of Camera 35 I stopped downtown for a second on my way home. I got out in front of Bad Bones and waited for a satisfied customer to come out to make a shot, but then this happened and it was more satisfying than what I was awaiting.  *Dan

The greatest teacher, failure is.
Playing around with some fog-in-a-can and Master Yoda was really giving me the gears for fumbling with the lighting.
Spoiler alert . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . I can't wait to see Episode 8 again, lol. *Padawan Dan

Packing up and moving out.
I stopped by the mall on the way home from work today. Lament for the workers losing their jobs, rage at the fat cats who stole the pensions, retirements and dreams of those workers.  *Dan

Red Cliff
This is the Red Cliff Radar station near Logy Bay. Red Cliff was also the name of the campground most people stayed at for Salmon Fest and was synonymous with the concert back in the day. And by campground I mean a dirt field. When I first moved to town I would hear people talking about Red Cliff and thought they were referring to the one in Central. It's a little out of the way, but this abandoned radar station would make a wicked concert venue. Melanie and I got up there with Bigg-E today for a stroll and to check out the graffiti.

Cape Spear
Bigg-E and I decided today that there are going to be at least weekly visits to Cape Spear this year. And presumably many posts, we'll see. To live this close to such beauty and not get out there more often is criminal.  *Dan
