Dunno if this spoiler or not, but if he is, how popular is Magibaru before he got summoned? During Saya's pov, she mentioned she is nothing like Magibaru who had kept a stash of grief seeds in his house. This gives me the impression that Magibaru kills witches at a faster rate than the average magi, cause i have yet to hear a canon character having a stash of valuable grief seeds just laying in their house, and seeing how strong he is, it is not far from the truth.

Okay. So.

Some of this is spoilers but some of it isn’t. The reason that Subaru has such a big stash of grief seeds is because of an event I can’t talk about, but prior to that event he was still a successful witch hunter. He also had friends who shared grief seeds and helped him out, distributing the seeds between each other.

What do you mean by ‘popular?’ Do you mean successful?

How good is Magibaru's skill at deciphering people who they are and what they do? It's kinda understandable when he knows Emilia is lying about her name. But then he immediately knows Rem is out for blood just by looking at her eyes narrow for a bit, and also knowing that Roswaal is hiding something after just starting to meet him.

I asked the author directly for this. Here’s the author’s response:

“He's like... Kind of good. It's only when people don't really hide it that much or when he's paranoid thanks to kyubey. It made him more on guard and observant. Like, he knows roswaal is hiding something, he just doesn't know what. Y'know how Ram has to get mana infusions? He wouldn't know about that. It's only when he's very paranoid that he gets very very observant. This won't happen if he trusts someone a lot tho.”

Why he’s paranoid? Spoilers, partially, although it’s mostly from Kyuubey.

It is! That’s entirely intentional. Our first concept of his outfit was ‘what if homura but boy’ and it hasn’t really changed from that. He’s got some Homura parallels as well, so the outfit is kind of a neat little reference.
