Oxytocin is a mammalian hormone responsible for the sensation of love. It’s involved in social recognition and bonding, and is believed to play a part in the formation of trust between people. It’s what makes mother-baby bonding so powerful – hence it being known as the "cuddle chemical" and "love hormone". But it’s also been found that the males of many species have oxytocin-led responses to early parenting – some of which are pretty surprising.

Dogs are chock full of the "love hormone". Dogs’ bodies produce oxytocin when in the presence of their human counterparts – and they get a big burst of it every time they make eye contact with their bonded humans. When a dog’s brain is flooded with the hormone, it’s better able to follow the social cues of its owners.

And the longer a dog maintains its owners’ gaze, the more elevated the levels of oxytocin released. In fact, dog levels of oxytocin are on average five times higher than those of cats. The blog-post here...

3 of the shown participants in Paviot Design are (crash related) out of the Dakar Rally Raid (Nasser Al-Attiyah and Carlos Sainz) or did - due to injury - not start at first place (Bryce Menzies).

Pinshi Paceña Brewing Co.

Seen this morning the post of Ruffo Racing with the Pinshi Paceña Brewing Co. plug so I instantly went onto a mission: Get some Pinshi Paceña! (Got to love the name!!) Send them a message and they fairly fast replied advising me that Facebook page is factory/brewery and product can be purchased at #Beerbox and #Picnic mini market on the Malecon in La Paz BCS. Bad luck for me - the type i wanted the most - Choyero Weizen - was not in stock, I had to settle for "Red Negada" India Pale Ale, "Sierra Toxica" Rye Double IPA and "Beach Ola" American Pale Ale.

Checking out at the store set me back 348,- peso for 6 bottles. That's a hefty price-tag! I consider myself middle-class and so are my Mexican friends. I do not see that beer become popular with that pricing.

To give you a benchmark: a night front-desk manager in one of the popular La Paz hotels walks home with salary less as 4000,- peso every quincena (2 weeks). Spending 8% of that on a 6-pack? I doubt it.

Taste - it's like opinions. They are like certain body-parts: everybody has one. My roots go back to a country that re-invented beer during the 14th and 15th centuries (original produced about 3,500 BC in Egypt & Mesopotamia/Irak), according to a recent report there are approximately 1,300 breweries in Germany producing over 5,000 brands of beer. I grew up with beer, I love drinking beer (for the taste like other people do with wine, not to get f*cked up). I'm a fan of craft- and micro brews. I give the 3 samples at the most a rating of 6 out of 10. There is plenty of room, by my taste-buds, to improve to a level of Ale-Mania Craftbeer for example.

Certainly you get plenty of car for your cash. A couple of hundred feet of bodywork, for a start, along with enough red leather to re-upholster Stringfellows.

And plenty of power, too. Clearly the Defender’s standard 2.2-litre diesel wouldn’t be sufficient for a beast of such majesty, so Kahn has installed with the Flying Huntsman with a GM-sourced 6.2-litre V8, making a nice round 500bhp.

The Scubster

Scubster Nemo is the sports car of submarines writes BBC. The Scubster is not the world’s first human-powered submarine, however it is an incredibly maneuverable example of the genre, able to climb and sink vertically, dive and rise, travel backwards, rotate around its vertical axis, and execute a tight corkscrew of a roll.

That nimbleness comes courtesy of two independently rotating drive propellers, which are mounted on winglets beside the sleek passenger capsule.

The original design (headed, not incidentally, by French adventurer Stephane Rousson) has added electric motors to the contraption, as well as such optional equipment as dive lights, video equipment and surface navigation aides.
