Mix It Up!
Tumblr media
Side Quest Reward: 馃拵100
Play a game, watch a movie, or read a book from a genre that you've never tried before!
This side quest is meant to encourage you to step outside of your comfort zone and try something new. You can also fulfill this quest by trying a new food or drink, going somewhere you've never been, or trying out a new hobby.
If it doesn't work out, that's okay! The point is to try and see if you discover something new that you like, but there's no shame if you don't like it.
Quest safely, adventurers!

Time for a Side Quest! Reward for completion: 馃拵100
This weekend we'd like to encourage you all to try out meal planning if you never have before! We're offering a free printable meal planner to help you out.
There are a lot of different ways to do meal planning. You can try out one of the 2 methods we talk about here, or you can do some research on your own to find other methods. The idea is to try something new and find something that works for you.
Method 1:
This method is great for anyone who is very low on food, is making a major change to their diet, or who happens to have a larger budget for groceries this week. (We'll talk about low budget shopping in other posts later!)
Print out the meal planner (or make your own) and fill in what you want to eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the next week.
Using the meal plan, make your grocery list. Write down every single thing that you'll need to prepare your meals - even if you think you have it, write it down now just in case.
Once your list is complete, take it with you to the kitchen and cross off anything that you already have enough of. If you're a little low on something you'll need, keep it on your list so you won't be coming up short later.
And you're done! Take your list with you when you go shopping and do your very best to stick to it!
Method 2:
This method is good for anyone who has a lot of food and just doesn't know what to make, or who has a limited grocery budget for the week. We're going to basically do the same things as method 1, in a slightly different order.
Head into the kitchen with a notebook and pen, and start writing down the ingredients you have in stock. Especially focus on things that might be expiring soon, or that you have an abundance of. If you have something in the kitchen but you're running low, don't add it to this list.
Take your kitchen inventory and settle down with the meal planner sheet. Using the list you made, build your meal plan, making sure to center/prioritize foods that you have plenty of, or that need to go soon.
Once your plan is made, you can write out your grocery list. This list should be much shorter than method 1, because you'll only need to pick up ingredients to supplement or complete meals with ingredients you already have!
Give it a try this week and see how it goes. If it works for you, that's awesome! You've learned a new skill and you can practice it regularly. If it doesn't work for you, don't give up! Some people do great with meal plans, and other people are horrible with them. It's all about finding what works best for you, and adding new things to your skill tree to become the best adventurer you can be!

Spending your 馃拵
All tasks with The Quest Diary give you 馃拵 as a reward for completing the task. Main Quests will give you 馃拵500, Guild and Party Quests will give you 馃拵250, and Side Quests will give you 馃拵100. You'll also find some minor tasks that offer bonuses here and there - and of course we encourage you to add your own to your routine!
Keep track of the 馃拵 that you earn, because this is your currency within the game. You can trade it out for things like:
Real rewards
Passing on a scheduled task with no/fewer consequences
Game bonuses like buffs, health potions, etc
Extra time to complete tasks
You're responsible for being honest with yourself during the game, and using your own 馃拵 fairly. We'll occasionally make currency posts giving you ideas of how to spend your 馃拵, so keep an eye out for those to come around if you're struggling!
Remember, you can always ask for clarification on any aspect of the game at any time!

Gamify your life with The Quest Diary! Interest checks for this project are now live!
The Quest Diary is a passion project being put together by Kiwi Kitty and Jumble Jayne. Inspired by other similar projects like Habitica and The Hero's Journal, The Quest Diary aims to provide resources for turning your life into a fully fleshed out game system!
Our goal is to help our players deal with the pressures of life by turning the mundane into the magical - daily chores become quest dailies, going to the store becomes a mini-dungeon, making phone calls becomes a miniboss battle!
By taking these every day tasks and responsibilities and turning them into a real life RPG, we encourage our players to change how they feel about the daily grind, and shake up how they approach their life.
Gamification (sometimes also called play therapy, especially with children) is a still developing and growing tool for counseling. It offers clients the opportunity to develop much needed skills in a fun and effective way. It also offers a way for clients to approach and confront issues in their lives that may feel too scary in a traditional counseling setting.
The Quest Diary is being designed as a tool to help players develop new social and coping skills, but should not be considered a replacement for professional counseling or therapy.
For everyone who is interested, please fill out this form! If the interest check fails, I will still continue the project, it will just be more of a personal only project, rather than a fully developed system intended to be shared.
