Well folks, I think it's about time to call it
Remainders is getting a revamp
#1 I am significantly better at writing three years later
#2 I don't think I'll ever be able to consistently work on this
Obviously not completely scrapping this, but gonna be reworking and eventually republishing (most likely on a different site)
So stay tuned and I'll try to keep posted on when and where this is going to be!

So in case y'all didn't notice
Remainders is on Hiatus for the time being
Currently I have two more chapters written but they have not been edited or queued (obviously) and I don't want to...run out of chapters to post while in a writing slump.
I've been unable to write for a while now as college pretty much killed my soul and right now I'm just trying to learn how to read again and maybe I'll pick up writing again too. I'm just trying to get my sh*t rolling and see where it goes.
On the bright side, I'm feeling pretty inspired right now, so I might work on Remainders some more later.
Thanks for reading, please remember to reblog, and I'll see y'all soon!

Concord Grove
Kay stared at her phone. Léo was late. Again. There were no texts, calls, emails, anything. She looked up. Taurus was scowling. “That bastard better have a good reason for being late.”
“Tory, please. He is a working man.” Kay put her phone in her pocket. “I’m sure he has a reason.”
Aries shivered. “America is colder than I remember.”
“Just not used to it.” Aquarius scoffed. “I’m hot.”
“You’re the only one.” Sagittarius was also shivering. “It’s fuckin’ cold.”
“It is not.” Léo’s voice pierced the air. “It’s brisk.”
Everyone turned to face him, standing there with one hand in his pocket, still waring his suit.
“You’re late.” Taurus snapped.
“I had to close for the evening, and Zodia wouldn’t be terribly happy if I didn’t do it properly.” Léo retorted.
“Then tell us you’re gonna be late!” Taurus bellowed.
Léo folded his arms. “I’m sorry, but I don’t have my phone on me currently, otherwise I would have happily told you.”
Kay was growing increasingly suspicious of Léo’s behavior. Since when did he not carry his phone with him at all times?
Léo’s orange and green eyes glanced over the other eleven. “Then shall we get started?” He turned and began to walk down the road.
“With what? Hey!” Taurus bellowed. “Where are you going?!”
Léo didn’t answer, just stuffed his hands into his pockets as he continued walking. Kay glanced at her siblings before running after Léo.
She wasn’t surprised that this was just a location. The Concord Grove had long been closed. Léo had been covering his trail enough that probably every meeting point would be not the real meeting place, and instead a place to connect, let him judge the security of the situation, and continue.
The others stuck to her, rather than Léo. Kay wasn’t even sure whether to follow him.
“Follow me.” The words weren’t spoken, but they were heard, loud and clear. He had stuffed his hands into his pockets and now limped away from the old bar. Capricorn ran after him, and so did everyone else. He was walking slower than usual, but it was still nearly impossible to keep up with his long legs. He suddenly pulled his hands from his pockets and ran into a broken building. Capricorn wasn’t sure how he could still run after the beating he had taken, but somehow he had vanished before she knew where he had run.
Léo stopped in front of the meeting place. Kay ran faster. He didn’t say anything. He just glared at it for a moment. Does he really not remember?
Then he started walking again. Kay had barely caught up, and he was much faster than her. He took long, firm strides, shoulders squared, but arms swinging in such a relaxed manner.
He was so much like Zodia.
In a split second, he looked around and behind himself, and then broke into a sprint. Kay took off, but knew she’d never keep up.
Taurus ran past her, keeping near pace with Léo, just slow enough for Kay to keep track of him.
Léo shot sideways off the sidewalk, into an alley, causing Taurus to accidentally run past him. Kay ran into the alley, but no one was there. She cursed under her breath as the others finally caught up.
Léo had vanished in a hallway. Capricorn started to run down, but suddenly a hand pulled her into a room, a second hand covering her mouth.
Kay pursed her lips. It was an age-old game, one they’d been playing since that day. She ran forward. No one grabbed her this time. She was almost all the way through when she heard Virgo gasp behind her.
“Virge!” She turned around sharply.
The slowest of the siblings was gone, the other ten searching desperately for him.
The game had changed.
Kay went back. There was only one place Léo and Virgo could have gone. An old, rusty door on the right side of the alley. She flung it open, and nearly off its hinges.
Léo was smirking at her, one hand over Virgo’s mouth, and the other arm holding him close. He let go and turned, running down a dark set of stairs. Virgo was shaking.
Taurus snarled as he reached to comfort Virgo. “I’m gonna behead Léo if I catch him.”
“Noted.” Kay stepped forward. “I don’t know why he changed now.” She mumbled, mostly to herself. He always grabbed her.
“He changed a while ago.” Virgo spat. His voice dropped, “I thought Zodia grabbed me.” He rubbed his right arm, where Léo had grabbed him.
Aquarius furrowed her brow, taking the lead away from Kay. “I’m going first this time.” Her heels clicked on the concrete stairs as she began her descent. “He never could surprise me.”

Lies in Place
Growing up, Léo had only one woman on his mind, his mother. He so desired to give her the life he believed she deserved, that he soon found himself working three jobs, studying harder than anyone else, and pushing himself to the very limit of what a teenage boy could physically accomplish. It wasn't that he didn't want romance, he was just much too busy.
Now, even with Zodia's encouragement to seduce women, Léo found that he couldn't treat women as mere objects, as they could hold deeper conversations than any man he had ever met. Instead, he spent many of his working hours sitting on the secretary's desk, discussing politics and emotions and deep secrets, as the men of Zodia's company wondered how Léo had become so close to the “impossible woman,” and then didn't bother to make real conversation with her.
Meaghan was snorting from laughing so hard as Léo continued.
“So I’m sitting there, and this guy is going off on how children shouldn’t be allowed to run companies, how they’re lazy and irresponsible and whatnot, and I’m sitting there, in my suit, with my name tag that reads ‘Zodia Léo Sanchez, General Manager of Iliostek America,’ just trying to get the stupid copy machine, and everyone else knows I’m there and they can see that I am clearly a young man, running a company, and responsibly trying to get a copier for my company, as this guy is just ranting on and on because a young, responsible manager fired him from the place, and--”
The door opened, and Kennedy, a manager, walked in. “Meaghan, the trainee is here.”
“Oh, good!” Meaghan jumped up. “Send her right in!”
Léo hopped off the desk as a petite girl walked in behind Kennedy. Her glasses were falling down, she had an armful of paperwork, her hair was already falling out of its bun, and, overall, she looked overwhelmed already.
“Hi, I’m Meaghan!” Meaghan smiled and held out her hand.
“I’m Trisha…” She replied shyly and shook Meaghan’s hand.
Léo beamed. “Welcome to Iliostek America, Trisha.”
Trisha looked at him and read his name tag. “Oh! Mr. Ilios!”
Léo couldn’t stop his face from reacting to the mix-up and flinched. “Actually, I’m his son, you can call me Léo.”
“O-oh. I thought you didn’t look quite right but…”
“It’s alright.” He smiled. “Zodia won’t be in until this afternoon, so until then, it’s just me, you, and Meaghan, as well as any stray managers roaming around.” He winked at Kennedy.
“Stop it, you.” Kennedy waved his tease away. “I have work to get done, and you probably shouldn’t be spending all day on that desk telling stories.”
“Yes, ma’am.” He teased again as Kennedy walked out.
Meaghan smiled and began tidying up her desk. “If you don’t mind, Léo, I’d like to show Trisha around the office a little bit. But you can finish telling me your story later.”
“No worries. I’ve got to get to work before Zodia gets here anyway.” He turned to the other door, that led through to the main office. “And Trisha, if you need anything, let me know.”
The door clicked shut behind him and he walked across to the desk. He had to move quickly, and he couldn’t miss anything.
Dear Capricorn,
Do not reply after 11:30 am.
Do you have an answer? Or a question?
-Léo Sanchez
He sent the message via email, that is, Zodia’s email.
It was only a few moments before a reply came through.
Dear Léo,
We want you to know that we don’t trust you or buy any of this for a minute. But we’re in. What next?
-Kay Dennis
Dear Capricorn,
I don’t expect anything else. I’ll meet you and everyone else at The Concord Grove this evening, after closing. I would recommend wearing something comfortable. Do not reply again.
-Léo Sanchez
In a moment, every email was deleted, completely, and Léo was logged out of Zodia’s account. Even sooner, he was at work, doing what he was supposed to.
Living the lie that nothing was happening.

A Caged Lion
Léo flipped the business card around in his hand. It was a little sloppy for them to leave it behind, but it was easily rectified. At the old meeting place. Midnight. This needs to be discussed further.
It had been a long time since he had been there. He’d found it a few days after meeting him. Within a month, he had fixed up the one nice room in the abandoned hotel, and soon decided it needed to be shared.
It was only a few months later that he decided it wasn’t safe to go anymore.
“There will be no meeting at the room. It’s done. It’s dead. So don’t go back.”
“Why?”
“Because I said so.”
How do you explain that your “father” has been tracking everyone through their phones? That he knows about the room, and if he feels it’s a threat will destroy it and punish everyone for it? How do you explain that without explaining how you know?
Léo couldn’t remember the details of the conversation. Everything had been fuzzy. He was pretty sure he ended up in the hospital a few days later, but honestly he didn’t like thinking about the time before getting out of the hospital. It was bad.
He pulled a lighter out of his pocket and sent the business card up in flames.
His phone rang as the card finished burning between his fingertips.
Léo was the kind of guy who assigned different phone numbers to different contacts so he knew when to ignore a call and when to answer it before even looking at the screen. So, when he heard that ring, the one he heard when he wasn't close enough to be yelled for, he groaned loudly.
And then answered. "Good evening!" He said in his most chipper voice.
"Took you a little long to close up, didn't it?" Zodia spoke gruffly.
"Oh yeah, I just wanted to clean the coffee maker while I was thinking of it. You did say it's been tasting pretty rancid recently." It wasn't a lie.
"Good for you for taking some initiative, I don't often see that."
Oh good. Some positive reinforcement. That's a first. "Well, you've been telling me for years I should." Léo smiled. "Is there anything else you need to tell me?"
"Yes. There is a new employee coming in tomorrow. Assistant secretary. Beautiful young woman."
"Oh." Léo tried to hide the grimace in his voice. "The usual. Understood. I'll be in early tomorrow then. Good night."
"Good night, Léo. I love you."
"I love you too, Dad." Léo quickly hung up.

Where the Stars Meet
Every time Aries walked into that room, she saw memories. Shared laughter, tears, hugs, lots of long talks, even more nights of simply holding ice packs on each other...it was their meeting place, their safe space, their home.
"If I don't get my pants off right now I'm going to commit murder!" Gemini already had her pants down to her ankles.
"Mini?" Capricorn asked as she sat on the bed in the center of the room.
"Obviously." Gemini, Mini, flung her pants at Taurus. "I switched fuckin' hours ago and I've been screaming ever since!"
"Need help?" Virgo offered.
"Only if you're gonna give me your tits!" Mini slumped against the wall.
Virgo sighed. "If I could, I would."
Pisces laid across Capricorn's lap. "You guys done with the dysphoric screaming yet?"
"Never." Virgo and Mini responded in unison, as Mini pulled on Virgo's skirt and Virgo stole her pants.
Cancer flopped facefirst onto the bed. "Man, I'm sick of Léo's shit. Thinks he can boss us around just because he's Zodia's perfect little boy."
"One of these days I'm gonna throw him out a window." Taurus sprawled next to Capricorn. "Ground floor or top floor, I'm still debating."
"Do both." Cancer suggested. "If he doesn't learn from ground floor, he will for the top."
Virgo and Mini, having swapped clothes to be more comfortable, now joined the others on the bed.
Capricorn smiled. Her little siblings all huddled around her, just like old times.
Minus one.
"Eris? You've been awfully quiet?" Libra asked. "Are you okay?"
Aries still stood in the doorway, staring around the old hotel room. "I was just...” She hesitated. “This is Léo's room too."
Scorpio groaned. "I forgot that he knows about this place. I wonder if Zodia wiped it from his memory or something. Or maybe he's here, spying on us."
Aries could still remember when her little brother had been in the room with them. In fact, he would've been standing where she was, leaning on the doorframe, laughing at the other eleven, somehow all fitting onto one small bed. "No...it's just…when was the last time he came here with us?"
"He only came with us the first few months. Then he turned into Zodia's little puppet." Taurus snarled. "Not sure you can say it's his room too."
"But he found it for us, he fixed it up." Aries spoke firmly. "Tory, come on, he even caught that rat that scared you with his bare hands."
"It didn't scare me!" Taurus retorted.
Scorpio snorted. "Yeah it did, dude, you screamed like a little girl."
Aries looked up at the ceiling tiles. A few were a different color. "He fixed the ceiling when it leaked, he repainted the walls, he put a lock on the door. It's his too."
"This doesn't belong to Zodia Jr. and you know it, Eris." Taurus sat up.
Capricorn sighed. "Speaking of Léo, we need to discuss what he told us tonight."
"You mean his little bluff? He's probably gonna go tell ‘Daddy’ about how we're okay with killing him." Taurus scowled.
"If he was lying." Sagittarius pointed out. "That last little bit of his sounded a little too real to be a lie."
"Yeah, but the U.N? Assassination? Sounds like fiction to me."
"Governments have been hiring assassins for millennia." Pisces responded. "Just because you are only now aware and involved doesn't make it fantasy."
Cancer shrugged. "Yeah, but it could easily be a lie. I mean, why would Léo want Zodia dead? He's a little daddy's boy, with everything he could ever want. He's not..." Cancer trailed off.
"He's not one of us." Scorpio finished. "Zodia loves him. Zodia spoils him, promises him a kingdom, an empire, Léo has no reasoning behind wanting to kill Zodia."
Aries wanted to think of the moments when she had laughed with Léo. She wanted to remind everyone that he had created the concept of being them, even if he was just being used as a puppet now. She wanted to think of the few months when he had been one of them.
She could only remember the last time he came to the meeting place. How he had scolded her, while she was crying and bleeding, for disobeying Zodia. How he had told her it was her fault she got punished.
"I'm sorry." She whimpered hoarsely. "I just wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt. But I guess you're right."
Scorpio frowned. "Look what you did, Taurus, you made Eris sad."
"I did--" he looked at Aries, who was starting to cry. "I'm sorry, Eris. Come sit with us."
Aries sniffled and shuffled over to find a place tucked under Taurus’s arm.
Capricorn stood up, making Pisces fall on the floor. "This situation isn't that simple. Think about it: Léo called the meeting using Zodia's phone. He gave us the details using Zodia's email. Since when does he do that?"
"Kay has a point." Mini stood up too. "Léo doesn't ever call using Zodia's phone. He uses his own. He doesn't even use his business email to contact us, he uses his personal one, and would never use Zodia's."
"Without permission." Virgo added.
"But why? For a bluff? Neither Zodia or Léo is smart enough to cover their heels like that." Aquarius pointed out.
Pisces sat up. "No, they're both pretty clever. Remember, Zodia always used to know where we were and when, even if we left our cell phones somewhere else. Léo too. They aren't stupid."
"But they think we are." Cancer mumbled under his breath.
"Exactly." Capricorn crossed her arms.
Sagittarius nodded. "Again, this is too well thought out to be a lie meant to catch us in something. Especially since Zodia has been content to let us do as we please for the past year."
"I still don't buy it." Taurus scoffed.
"Nor should you, or any of us." Capricorn placed her hands on her hips. "If it is a trap, it's an awful one to get caught in. If it isn't, we can't wait to find out."
"So what do we do?" Aries asked sheepishly.
Capricorn sighed. "We just play along until something looks wrong."

To Kill a God
"What?" Eleven voices asked at once.
"I know you heard me." Léo crossed his arms. "Iliostek and Zodia Ilios have both been involved in some rather questionable deals, many of which are illegal in most countries. However, it can't be proven that he is involved, so he can't be taken to court for it. The plan originally was for the United Nations to hire an assassin to...dispose of him. This would cost several millions of dollars with the potential to not pay off."
"And how do you know this?" Cancer glared at Léo suspiciously.
Léo smiled sweetly. "I have my ways. Anyway, I decided to make a different offer. You see, there are twelve people in this room who would be perfectly happy to see Zodia dead, and they don't need, or want, payment. Why not let the people who know Zodia best send him to his grave?"
Sagittarius scowled. "There is one thing I understand about that man, and that's that he is not someone who will be killed by mortals. I think we all learned that a long time ago."
Except Léo.
Léo finally stepped forward, up to the table, so that he looked less prone to running away. "Well, consider it. If you take me up on the offer, we have one month to do the deed without getting caught."
"Or what?" Scorpio asked mockingly.
"Or the United Nations send their own assassin. Nothing major." Léo shrugged. "Either way, Zodia dies, right?"
Capricorn sighed. "So why go to the trouble?"
Léo turned back toward the door and began to walk out. "Probably nothing. Just a little nervousness on my part, seeing how myself and all of you are pretty deeply involved in Zodia's business, and happen to know just how much illegal business there is in it without acting on it…" he trailed off as he opened the door. "But you know, you’re right, it probably really isn't worth the effort if he dies either way." He walked out, closing the door with a snap, and leaving the conference room in silence.
Pisces was the first to speak. "So basically, if we don't off him... we're fucked too."
Virgo sat back. "I mean, if they can't prove he is involved in these things, they can't prove we aren't."
Libra shrugged. "Or it's all some trick for Zodias one and two to catch us wanting to kill him."
Capricorn stood up, hands pressed against the table. "Any urgent meetings at home?"
The others looked at her with a hint of confusion before shaking their heads.
She smiled before standing up straight and walking out, leaving a business card where her right hand had been. The door clicked shut.
Pisces flicked it into their palm, read the tiny, neat handwriting on the back, and then handed it to Virgo. "What an ego. Make sure you read the fine print on the back, it's hilarious."
The card quickly made its way around, landing last in Sagittarius' hand. He snorted.
At the old meeting place. Midnight. This needs to be discussed further.
"No kidding, who leaves a business card for their siblings?"

12 Siblings, One Sperm Donor
Capricorn Dennis hated short notice branch meetings. It meant getting plane tickets, making sure the managers and supervisors could handle everything, dropping literally everything, and flying to New York City in the U.S. All within a few hours.
And she was only coming from Canada.
The others were coming from across the globe.
"You know, he makes us drop everything to get here, the least he could do is show up on time." Taurus Yeng, a temperamental Chinese man, folded his arms gruffly.
"Tory, what are you going to do when he walks in to you slouching with your arms folded like that?" Capricorn shot him a warning look.
Taurus sat up and rested his arms on the table. "I'm just saying, at least send Léo or someone to tell us why he's gonna be late."
Aquarius folded her legs sharply. "He wants to catch us off guard."
Aries Lima, a short, plump Brazilian, flinched.
"Tempers." Sagittarius Zodia, a lanky Ethiopian, spoke firmly. "We don't want to upset him."
"Maybe I do!" Taurus bellowed.
As if on cue, the door slammed open, and in walked…
Léo.
"Oh. You." Taurus scowled, after having hastily corrected himself to appear less aggressive.
Léo scanned the conference room before tutting to himself. "Oh darn, it would seem someone forgot to remind Zodia of the meeting today. Oh well, at least he remembered to inform all of you of this." A smirk twitched across his face.
"What is this?" Taurus barked.
They all had the same thought at once. Léo is the boss finally.
Virgo Brodeur was the one who said it out loud. "So the heir claims his throne?"
Léo sighed. "Sadly, no. Actually, I have an...interesting proposal for you all."
"A proposal, eh?" Pisces Arrieche, a Venezuelan, leaned into their palm. "What kind of proposal? A raise at the expense of our employees' paychecks? A potentially illegal bribe to keep quiet about one of Zodia's...’business deals?’"
"Oh, perhaps another required expansion that will destroy parts of our home cities?" Gemini Egan smirked.
Léo chuckled. "Hallelujah, no. Nothing bad. In fact, nothing Zodia needs to know about."
"You keep calling him 'Zodia.' Did 'daddy' get old? Or are you just trying to fit in with the rest of us?" Cancer Yeboah, from South Africa, sneered.
This comment didn't amuse Léo. "The rest of you only call him 'Zodia' when he's not looking. He's just always looking at me." Léo snarled.
Scorpio Kim, a flamboyant Korean man, propped his feet on the table. "Just get on with your proposal. I want to get home."
"Do you have a date or something?" Libra Omiata teased.
Scorpio paused. "That's none of your business."
"It is too, I'm your sister after all." Libra poked him in the side.
"That is exactly why it's not your business!" Scorpio hissed. "Can we please just get on with this!"
Unfortunately, Léo had lost the attention of his eleven siblings, and being Zodia's favorite didn't make regaining their attention any easier.
Capricorn chirped a whistle. "Zodia may not be here, but this is a business meeting! Please, let's just wrap this up and get on with our lives."
Immediately all eyes were on Léo. He cleared his throat. "Actually, I have received an interesting offer from the United Nations."
"And that is?" Aquarius prodded, praying that it was an offer that would get her away from Zodia.
Léo leaned against the wall. "They want us to kill dear old daddy-o.
“Zodia Ilios."

The King’s Son
Aquarius Molotov was best known as the daughter of Zodia Ilios, heir of Iliostek, and CEO of the Iliostek Russian branch. The men of her office would often remark that her suit was too tight, her heels too high, and her entire body too fake, but they’re also the men who gawked every day as she walked in at exactly 6:30am, looking every bit the beauty the media made her out to be.
Today, her secretary was complaining to the assistant manager that her suits were tighter as of late, and it was getting out of hand. This conversation was going on just as Aquarius walked in, heels clicking on the tile.
"утро, мэм!" The secretary piped up.
"утро." Aquarius replied. "Please no calls to me this morning." She continued in her native tongue. "I have a lot to get done."
"Да, мэм."
Aquarius walked into her office, smiling at the comments made behind her back. The door clicked shut behind her, and she sat at her desk to begin work. Unfortunately, within a few minutes, the com beeped.
"Miss Molotov, a call for you."
"I did say that I'm not taking calls currently, correct?"
"Yes, ma'am, but it's from the American office."
Aquarius grimaced. The big boss. "Send it through."
The phone rang, and she answered in English. "Hello, Zodia."
"Mm, close."
Aquarius snarled. "Léo."
Léo was not his real name. His real name was Zodia Léo Sanchez, and he was the favored son of Zodia Ilios, Zodia's chosen successor. In his four years as a piece of Zodia's empire, he had quickly earned a reputation as being just like Zodia in every possible way. Except one. Léo was honest.
Mostly.
When one calls Léo 'mostly honest' it means he only lies when it is for the greater good, but because good is such a flexible term, Zodia himself could be called "mostly honest". So to make things simple, Léo's definition of good is anything that does not resemble his father in any way.
Which is not exactly wrong.
"Ding ding ding, we have a winner!" Léo remarked with a chuckle.
"What do you want, Léo?" Aquarius hissed.
He cleared his throat. "Well, there is a meeting involving all the branches of Iliostek in a few days. Your presence is, of course, required." His voice held a hint of mischievousness, one Aquarius had come to recognize as a hint to him plotting something. "I'll be in contact with further details once you have arrived in the U.S."
"Zodia called this?" She clarified.
"Yes." The answer was surprisingly short and cold.
Aquarius sighed. "Then I have no choice."
"Correct."
She scowled. "I'll see you then, Léo." She spit his name, and slammed the phone back onto the receiver. She jabbed the com on and switched to her native Russian. “Call off all of my meetings for the next week, and schedule a flight to the United States.”
“Yes, ma’am.” The secretary replied. “And a hotel room?”
“Contact the other branches and find out where my siblings are staying first.” Aquarius stared at the ceiling. “And, please, do call should anything happen while I’m gone.”
“Of course, ma’am.”

Remainders of the Zodiac
Stick a lion in a cage, train it to obey, force it to sit, stay, speak, and lie down, and soon you won't have a lion at all. All that will remain is a dog with a mane.
Or at least that's what you want to believe.
In reality, if you put a lion in a cage, train it to obey, force it to sit, stay, speak, and lie down, all you will do is piss it off, and while it looks like a lion has become a dog, your “dog” is actually biding its time, waiting to strike.
And strike it will.
