Honestly, I understand both Aegon and Alicent and my heart aches for both of them.

Alicent gave up not only her girlhood but her personhood to become a vessel for the new king. She lost her friends, her hopes, her dreams, her very bodily autonomy for this. She spent most of her life laying with a decaying corpse, nursing and attending to him, so that her father could have his wishes. She sacrificed everything for this. Even if she wishes it didn't have to be this way, her son has to be king for it all to have been worth it. And I don't doubt that she truly believes a man wearing the crown will be better for the realm.

Aegon, his entire life has been about sitting the throne. He never had a choice. It's a matter of life and death, as Alicent many times has explained to him. His very existence challenges Rhaenyra's claim. He doesn't want to fight, he doesn't want this hate, so of course he doesn't want the crown, but it's all about sacrifices in the end of the day, isn't it? And he will sacrifice everything as well. His sister and wife, his brothers, his children, his sanity. He will do it even if he has no desire for it. Just like Alicent had no desire for Viserys or for motherhood.

It really pains me that none of them lived a day not shadowed by this dance. Sacrifice, sacrifice, all for endless bloodshed and nothing. The Greens are such a pitiful tragedy.
