90,000-year-old human footprints found on a Moroccan beach are some of the oldest and best preserved in the world

Two trails of ancient human footprints pressed into a beach in Morocco form one of the largest and best-preserved trackways in the world.

Researchers happened upon the footprint site near the northern tip of North Africa in 2022 while studying boulders at a nearby pocket beach, according to a study published Jan. 23 in the journal Scientific Reports.

"Between tides, I said to my team that we should go north to explore another beach," study lead author Mouncef Sedrati, an associate professor of coastal dynamics and geomorphology at the University of Southern Brittany in France, told Live Science. "We were surprised to find the first print. At first, we weren't convinced it was a footprint, but then we found more of the trackway." Read more.

Second day of my three-day trip in Granada, Andalucía. Before leaving, I checked quickly the weather, then thought, "It's Andalucía in April, it ought to be sunny". Indeed, the first day was bright, sunny and hot.

Today? Today it's raining hallebards and I didn't tale my umbrella with me. Said to myself, "I don't need to buy another one, I'll just use one of my scarves to protect my head". And then I decided to go and walk for 40 minutes across town, through all the little paved, slippery, steep streets, to go visit the caves.

End result: I am DRENCHED. Pathetically wet cat drenched. From head to toe. Because also the only shoes I have are my Converse, and my travel pants are military cargo pants, so they drag on the ground. My shoes, my pants, my wool cardigan, my scarf, my hair, my gloves, my bag, my wallet... This is just my new state now. Wet. And cold. And will definitely get a cold.

I could have stopped. Turned back. Or at least buy an umbrella. But noooooo I went on ahead, literally at times singing in the rain, talking to myself and laughing silly at my own stupidity.

I need a minder.

The amount of time and trial and error that happens between when you realize you need to change and when you actually start digging your heels in and making those changes is often literal years which is so crazy cause we can know something for so long and refuse to let it sink in when we know it will deeply disrupt our lifestyles and comforts/crutches so it just prevails for so much longer than we could ever imagine even when we realized so long ago what was wrong we just back pedal when we are scared until something just cracks and we feel ready

i think its so funny that alumni from schools like harvard and columbia that were there during the protests in the 60s-80s are expressing support for students currently protesting against the genocide in palestine, and random zionists that were NOT at these protests in the 60s-80s have the never ending audacity to tell these alumni "well thats different, what you protested was good and what they're protesting is bad." as if protesters against the vietnam war and apartheid south africa were not also demonized, arrested, brutalized, and even killed for their activism. history only remembers them fondly after the damage has already been done.
