Its funny to see people on Twitter and Tumblr supporting and giving the leeway to Annika in this redux, which they absolutely refused to give to Gauri in DBO/Original Universe last year, when in fact, Annika’s vichaars are even more regressive than DBO!Gauri, this season.

But are Rikara even really part of this redux ? I don’t understand why didn’t Gul and HS just let them go ? The redux would have been perfect to let Rikara, Ruvya and Obros be written of completely and just focused on their one favorite couple .. Om has no personality as yet .. Gauri rarely gets good important scenes ... why didn’t the production house let Shrenu and Kunal go and fill their spots with random ppl ? They r never given importance at all so I’m still confused why r gul and co keeping them on the show ? 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

TT, I have a genuine doubt. Is Bhavya a part of this redux? Because its been a month and I haven't seen her in a single episode. It could be that I missed her, because I tended to ffwd through the depressing bits initially. I'm confused, like Rikara seems to be part of the redux, individually and as a couple (courtesy HS story) even though all this is happening in Shivika's head. So like Shivika have included Rikara, but not Ruvya, in the alternate universe in their minds? Sorry, I'm confused!!!

She is; she appeared in one episode early on to arrest Shivaay, and then one more where she clashed with Rudra as revenge (he insulted her when she came to arrest Shivaay.) Her character just doesn’t seem to have much scope in this universe, and Mansi also seems to be shooting for a part in another show (Laal Ishq, I think?), so I don’t think we’ll be seeing Bhavya around here for a while unless she’s gonna be coming back to arrest Shivaay for coercing a woman to marry him.

Its not her fault..

I knew it. This upcoming track on Ishqbaaaz would mean another opportunity for Shivika fans to bash Gauri or give a proof of their stupidity. 

The latest was “Gauri was chosen as the victim because she is naive. Anika can fight back and Bhavya is a cop. So Gauri was chosen as the victim of the sexual assault”. 

Like I understand how many Shivika fans haven’t seen DBO. But have they forgotten the Dangal track or Bareilly track which happened in IB last year. So, apart from being stupid, Shivika fans are suffering from short term memory issues as well. 

Thankfully, Gauri fans are there to set the record straight.

Anyways, this is not the point which I wanted to highlight. 

One of my friends saw this discussion, and her first reaction was, “I think its a bit disturbing that people are debating who would be a better victim….”

This is what actually struck me the most about this entire conversation that, that anybody can be a victim of sexual violence. The fact that so many hollywood actresses spoke about it, is like nobody is safe. To see such rationalization of the choice of victim, its like an eye-opener, about how there is a tendency to blame the victim, that it must be her fault that bad things are happening to her, or as if she was a fool to be targeted this way.

So what are we trying to say? 

That it was Nirbhaya’s (Jyoti’s) stupidity that she was traveling in a bus at night, thats why she got gangraped and a metal rod inserted in her, which killed her? That it was 8-year old Asifa’s foolishness which is why she was kidnapped and gangraped for days, ultimately meeting her end with her head being bashed in stone? 

Ms. Jayalalitha (may her soul rest in peace) the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, one of the largest states in the India, was molested in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, with the reporters there witnessing the event to narrate to the entire world. So, is it her fault that she expected political leaders who had been elected by the people to make laws for the state, to behave like decent human beings in the institution which is supposed to uphold the values of our Constitution? If she, being one of the most powerful woman in the state, was not safe in what was supposed to be one of the safest places in the state, then nobody is safe. 

Sexual violence can happen against anybody, irrespective of whether they are intelligent, stupid, being careful, vigilant, strong, covering themselves from head-to-toes or wearing noting. 

When we say casual statements like ‘she was naive’ or ‘she was careless’ or ‘she should know how to fight back’, we are taking the onus of the heinous act from the perpetrator and placing it on the victim, justifying that if she is suffering, then its her fault. 

Its not her fault. It is the fault of the man, who decided to use his strength as a weapon to subdue a woman, to abuse a woman, to commit a crime against a woman. It always his fault, his crime, not hers.
