Passage to me means coming of age. This includes learning, growing, and obtaining new experiences. Once production became easily available video art opened up a door for artist to express their thoughts. many artists used it as another form to communicate metaphors, or symbolism. For example in Martha Roslers "semiotics of the kitchen 1975" she used video and sound to convey a message of gender norms and stereotypical women roles. Compared to flat art, or just sound, video art immerses the audience much more. The message is both heard and seen, therefore staying in the mind of the audience longer. Personally I liked some works such as Tony Ourslers "miniature piece", Also I liked his work style and how unorganized and random it was, very unique. However other works like Joan Joan's "leftside rightside" made no sense to me. It seems as though she was making a reference to how no one is physically perfect. Overall I like video art however I also like to be mixed with physical objects to create a 3D effect.
The image is from the show “Wandavison” a Marvel show that explores Wanda Maximoff and superhero/villan. Wanda is incredibly strong and she has the ability to alter the reality of others. As a result the cover art for the show follows themes as seen in glitch art so I wanted to create my own take. A technique I really enjoyed learning through this process was pixel pull.
When observing Visconti’s work he takes on a bit more of a modern approach, with a heavy emphasis on technology and different waves or line patterns. The artists does well with combining everyday modern photos and transforming them into glitch art. Something that I find particularly interesting is moving photos that loop over and over, they remind be of a scratched CD, or a tv that is broken but still shows light and images when turned on.
Elena Kulikovo:
Kuilkovo’s work is very unique. The artist blend femininity with glitch art and a very colorful saturated pallet. Additionally some of her work is interactive and resembles a kaleidoscope. Something interesting that I really enjoyed about her work was her exhibit titled “To Love Beauty is to See Light”, she does an excellent job at capturing love.
Rosa Menkman:
Menkman’s work is very glitch and has a computer feel. Her use of color is strategic and she mostly uses hues that are very saturated and bright. Additionally there is not much blending, Menkman’s work is very structured and she does very will in establishing her brand. If I could describe her work in 3 words it would be: weird but intriguing.
The meaning behind my image is meant to represent self doubt. As college student we are often faced with great challenges that at times appear too difficult to achieve. As a result we often tend to think that we cannot achieve certain goals and aspirations. This way of viewing your future is negative and takes the color out of our dreams and life. We have to remember that we are each others biggest critiques. With enough passion and perseverance you can achieve your goals even if you are “less talented” than those around you.
As for the significant of the images I used elements that are apart of my daily life. For example the stop sign is from campus, the hands and limbs are from my friends, the flowers I took from my local grocery store. The dog in the corner is mine and although I do not get to see him often because he lives with my family in Houston, I miss him tremendously and I think about him daily. The image that is not mine is the background, I wanted it to be foreign to represent the foreign environment that I am in (I am from Houston).
Something that caught my attention was how long Dada has been around know that I am actively thinking about it, I have seen this type of art form in the past however I have no idea that it was called “Dada”
Apposed to traditional art at the time of its creation (about 100 years) Dada was meant to poke fun of any mock traditional forms of art. Dada also influenced new art especially conceptual art.
Some ways in which we can find Dada art in modern society is through Fashion. Many fashion show and fashion week in general incorporate many of those common themes seen in Dada such as: nonsense, randomness, and spontaneity if efforts to get an emotional reaction.
For my visual identity I wanted to capture something that not only represented my interested but also gave a peak into who I am and my personality.
This is a photo from the inside of a Starbucks cup.
To capture this piece I combined 2 things that I love, coffee and painting. The cup is a Starbucks cup from my morning coffee. The paint (acrylic) combines 3 colors: Red, While, and green which represent my Mexican culture. To make the design I got a paintbrush and sporadically moved the paint around. I then held the cup up to the setting sun and let the light shine through to get this effect.
The inside of this represents my: interests, my nationality, my sporadic ideas, and the warm of my home, Texas, in the summer months.
I noticed that light and photography is something that is hard to balance. Additionally detail is hard to capture depending on the time of day however if you do it right you really can get some great shots.
1) am a junior, Marketing Major with a minor in visual arts and I hope to learn more about black and white photography. A fun fact about me is that I am from Houston
2) This photo inspires me because it is my dream destination. Whenever I am feeling unmotivated, and or upset I always look back at it and picture myself there. (Snow monkey Resort, Japan)
