"Our new camp in Rafah, after our third displacement, is located in a graveyard near the Egyptian border. Each day the tents of new arrivals – of those forcibly displaced by Israeli attacks – creep closer to the graves.
After every Israeli massacre, both graveyard and camp expand, crawling toward the outer edges of the desert.
We’ve been here since December 2023. Nine of us share a tent that is 16 square meters.
We are in the desert, but sometimes it does not feel that way because of the density and the near-constant sounds of Israeli explosions and drones.
There are so many people in the camp, all of us in tents that do not protect from heat or cold.
Winds sometimes uproot tents. There are stray dogs everywhere. Every day we line up for drinking water. Sometimes the water runs out and we return to our tents empty-handed.
My family’s tent is in the middle of the camp. Next door is a medical point that supports those who have been displaced here.
I’ve seen doctors stitch up children’s wounds with care. Often there is no local anesthesia, so the doctors compensate with extra warmth and smiles. An elderly woman came to the tent for treatment for a chronic condition. They treated her with kindness. They did not have much medicine for her.
Since medical supplies are scarce, the doctors use what they have on hand.
We are being annihilated. We are running out of options. The north and south are separated, and communication is cut off. I used to hope that I would see friends and family in the north again, but now I just don’t know.
After this war ends, where will we go? Israel has destroyed our homes, and our favorite places no longer exist."

your thoughts on megumi being the one in million to not die after eating sukuna's finger?
I think it’s such a great twist. I love how megumi brought it up right at the beginning of the.. second chapter (was it?) I’ve recently reread the first 10 chapters and they actually reveal so many things about the plot and our characters. this makes me think that the ending of jjk is going to somehow tie back to the beginning.
also, the reveal of megumi being the one in million to not die after eating sukuna's finger plays perfectly into the “roles reversal” theme that’s been going on in the story. gege has been playing around with putting his character in situations where they have to reverse or keep reversing their roles/places w one another.
Tumblr media
↑ megumi, yuuji and sukuna right at the beginning where megumi fights sukuna and tries to get him to heal yuuji.
-> todo and yuuji, where todos technique literally makes them switch places with each other.
-> nobara and yuuji, when they fought blood painting bros and shared THE MOST PERFECT sequence where they switched places.
-> mahito and yuuji, where one becomes the other one’s pray and then the roles reversing AGAIN.
-> and obviously, megumi and yuuji where it’s megumi who’s the vessel now.
-> another one I don’t see anyone mentioning but… yuuji and choso. yuuji’s body and mind becoming more curse like every day and choso becoming more and more like human and then reaching a day where he becomes one - “rebirth” of some sort.
and probably other examples but that’s the only ones I could think of the top of my head.
and megumi being the one in a million who can be sukuna’s vessel obviously parallels how yuuji was supposed to be the one in a million special case, which in a way it feels like megumi was supposed to be the protagonist… now bear with me, in yuujis head him being the only one who can consume sukuna’s finger without dying made him feel like the main guy, the protagonist of this story. however, that doesn’t mean yuuji is not the main character of this story cause HE IS always has been. it’s just that in his head THATS what made him special, that’s what made him the protagonist. and when megumi got possessed everything changed. now he’s the one who has to save megumi from what looks like a death sentence, something megumi’s been trying to do this whole time. the roles switched and in more ways than we initially thought.

There’s that post that’s like ‘everyone should get into a tiny niche fandom at least once’ fully agree, that was really fun -- but I would like to add that everyone should get into a fandom where their opinions run counter to major fanon because it really teaches you about sticking to your guns and trusting your interpretation of the text without having to rely on peer validation
because WHAT are people talking about sometimes

Another thing is that when this aggression started, we were so worried about winter and how displaced people in tents will survive it. Earlier this week the temperature in Gaza hit 38 degrees (100 Fahrenheit) and we are now wondering how will displaced people survive the heat in those tents.

Thoughts on JJK Chapter 258 (spoilers)
Tumblr media
We get an explanation about what happened to Gojo after his two BF and what should've happened to Sukuna but didn't because Yuji's BF disrupted his cohesion to Megumi's soul and body.
Sukuna of course, in complete bitch mode, expanded his domain as an answer to Yuji's attacks. His domain construct looks significantly different to his previous ones though and there is an explanation for that as well.
Sukuna is still suffering the effects of Gojo's Unlimited Void but he compensated for that by using other areas of his brain. He also had to use Binding Vows and a different hand sign (the fuck) and he expanded MS with a shell.
When I first saw that new construct I thought that Sukuna had somehow incorporated the 10Shadows into his domain but no, he changed his domain so much that the construct changed with it.
The shape isn't out of the blue though: it has hands symbolizing how Sukuna uses his slashes and the eyes and spine are like the mouth in his normal construct. The antlers on top are from his inner domain where there are deer skulls everywhere.
The many eyes could also symbolize Gojo because, as we see in a few panels clearly but can guess in this panel as well, Sukuna used Gojo's hand sign. The eyes have Sukuna's double/triple iris though.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another explanation, this time on healing others. This is huge for Shoko's part because we've had trouble understanding the full extant of her healing ability. She can't e.g. regenerate an arm but now her healing has the potential to shoot up when her patient is someone she's compatible with (like Gojo?)
The gang is at the beginning of the time skip (no Gojo here again) and they discuss Yuji eating his brothers to gain a CT and RCT. We also find out what the soul switching is (Ui Ui's CT) and how they utilized it for their (cheater) training.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yuji and some others have also learned Simple Domain like this. Ui Ui's CT has some limits on how often it can be used so I'm curious who did which switching with whom. We're also talking about souls again so could Ui Ui switch Megumi's soul too?
We also learn that Sukuna DE is incomplete and can't be maintained for long. Because his domain has a shell, it's range is smaller (only about his Megumi-induced range of Shibuya.) But the Sure-hit still activates everywhere making sure that Maki is also targeted.
It's only 99 seconds though that Malevolent Shrine lasts and the four panels showing the gang enduring it with their SDs is pretty cool.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I have no idea what is going with Maki though. Who's with her? Larue???)
The next panels were awesome but I did take 3 seconds to understand it so here:
Tumblr media
Yuji re-attached his cut off foot with blood manipulation and RCT!
But of course, Sukuna is still in bitch mode and activates his secret technique that we've been waiting for all this time: It's FURNACE
Yes, his CT really is a kitchen. Don't be surprised when he opens his faucet next and don't forget, Sukuna one-shotted Jogo and Makora with his fire arrow.

Furnace
Tumblr media
The kanji 竈 for Sukuna's much anticipated secret technique is revealed and its meaning is: furnace... but also stove, hearth and kiln. An old word fitting for someone who lived 1000 years ago.
Sukuna pronounces it as [kamino] which isn't its actual pronouncation though. That kanji is read as [kama] but also as [SOU] and [hittsui]. You can find the [kama] reading in Demon Slayers protagonist; the first kanji in Tanjiro's last name Kamado is exactly this one. For Tanjiro this kanji fits because his family's occupation is making coal. Just like Sukuna's occupation is working in a kitchen.
But why the different pronounciation?
Now my Japanese isn't the best but it's a wordplay together with the second part of the fire arrow attack: [fuuga] aka OPEN.
[Fuuga] is written with the kanji 開 for open but again that kanji isn't actually pronounced like that and that's part of the wordplay. When you put the two kanji of this attack together it becomes: 竈開 "open the furnace".
But when you put the pronounciation of it together it becomes: [kami no fuuga] 神の風雅 -> "Elegance/Grace of the Gods".
Seeing as this attack is absolutely devastating, that name is an apt description of it.

Tumblr media
I can see 3 explanations for this Malevolent Shrine and its altered construct.
It's infused with the 10ST, or
It's a different version of MS, or
It's a mix of both
10 Shadows Technique
When I first saw this page, my first thought was "shikigami". It's the multiple eyes that, like you said, remind us of Nue and Agito but it's also the hands, it's overall animalistic design and also the dark spine that keeps it in the air.
Like we already said, this could've happened because Sukuna was forced to use parts of his brain that weren't damaged by UV and those extra parts may have been the place where 10ST is stored.
This would mean that this look happened on accident or better said, it's a compromise Sukuna had to make to expand his domain again. Or he simply sacrificed the 10ST for the remainder of this fight and that's why it looks like that right now.
As was already said in the story, the construct has no innate ability, it merely symbolizes the centre of MS so the addition of the 10ST wouldn't add anything to it outside of the expansion of the domain itself. If this DE had been properly fused with Chimera Shadow Garden than I think the text would've indicated it. (Except Gege wanted to hide that part and explain it later, like how Miwa(?) suddenly appeared to protect Maki.
My overall assumption for more than a year now since Megumi has been possessed, is that a reincarnated sorcerer doesn't have access to the DE of their host because a DE comes from the soul and that has been submerged now. So if that above is the 10ST than it's only a shallow paint of it.
Another Version of Malevolent Shrine
To expand MS, Sukuna had to make 3 compromises: Binding Vows, different handsign and usage of other parts of his brain. The last 2 could've very well changed the appearance of his construct but I'm concentrating on his handsign now
(The handsigns that the characters are using for their DEs come from a set of Buddhist greetings when I remember it correctly. These greetings are limited so as long as Gege doesn't expand his pool, the amount of characters with DE will stay low (as is the case right now). It could also happen that some characters will have the same handsign for their DE)
Kusakabe said that for a DE, you have to mix a set of parameters until it all fits and that changing those parameters is insane (paraphrasing) but that's exactly what Sukuna and Gojo did during their fight.
My theory is that changing the trigger of MS - the enmaten handsign - is the cause for why his construct is different now. Other sorcerers most likely wouldn't be able to expand their domains at all when they don't use their normal handsign but Sukuna somehow pushed that through.
IMO, the change of handsign itself changed the appearance of the construct (and maybe overall ability of the domain?) simply because it's not its own handsign. It's not about Gojo's sign in particular but about Sukuna needing a one-handed sign which forced his domain through a shape it's not accustomed to.
(This would also be true when that isn't Gojo's sign.)
The construct itself, while bizarre at first glance, also fits into Sukuna's established themes re his previous construct, his inner domain and his face.
Tumblr media
The animal parts would come from the deer bones and skull, there is a mouth behind Sukuna that's the same as the mouth in his normal MS, the bones on top remind me of the deer antlers but also the ripcage his inner domain is in, and the hands symbolize Sukuna's own because that's how he uses his CT.
(Worth noting is that Makora has been destroyed; if some part of it would reappear again, it would be his wheel.)
The multiple eyes look like Sukuna's own face.
Gege did a few design changes when he reintroduced original Sukuna; he's better looking now for one and less animalistic. His right eyes are now significantly bigger as well, extremely big actually and IMO that's because Gege sketched that construct at the same time and matched Sukuna's look with it (plus other story related reasons probably)
And of course, the change in the construct's look could be a mix of everything I've said right now.
We'll definitely get more domain expansions in the future especially with Megumi's CSG looming on the horizon so this will get answered most likely... just not in the next three months.

Does wakaru fall into the same category of verbs as shinu 死ぬ? As in, shindeiru means "dead" and not "dying" even though it's in the ongoing present tense form shown with the -teiru ending?
From my memory, the -teiru form for verbs that show a process, like to die, means that that process is finished.
Hi! You have a great knowledge of Japanese, so I would like to ask a question not related to One Piece. It's about the word わかっている . When is it used in m/a? I know it expresses irritation and impatience. That is, if one character uses it (no matter if they are calm or not) we can assume that they are irritated by their interlocutor, otherwise they would use わかった or わかりました or even わかっています, wouldn't they? I will be grateful, if you find a time to answer.
this is an interesting question!! it mostly comes down to the difference between the simple past tense (~ta form) and the ongoing present tense form (~teiru form). for those who can't tell exactly what's being asked here, the asker is asking about different forms of the verb wakaru (to understand/to know).
わかっている/wakatteiru is the ongoing present tense form of the verb, while わかった/wakatta is the simple past tense. わかっています/wakatteimasu and わかりました/wakarimashita are just the same terms but in polite form instead- there isn't a difference in meaning, just in the level of politeness implied. so to the best of my knowledge, the distinction between wakatta and wakatteiru can be understood roughly as the difference between 'understood' and 'i already knew that.'
wakatta is most often used as a straightforward confirmation that you understand what you've just been told. sort of like the english 'got it.' the simple past tense indicates a singular action rather than something ongoing.
meanwhile, wakatteiru, as the ongoing present tense form, says that i 'have been and still am' doing this thing (in this case, 'knowing/understanding'). so if you say wakatteiru, you're sort of saying that you already knew what you've just been told. i wouldn't say that this necessarily implies irritation or impatience, but it definitely can in a lot of circumstances. at least, that's my understanding!

When people get a little too gung-ho about-
wait. cancel post. gung-ho cannot be English. where did that phrase come from? China?
ok, yes. gōnghé, which is…an abbreviation for “industrial cooperative”? Like it was just a term for a worker-run organization? A specific U.S. marine stationed in China interpreted it as a motivational slogan about teamwork, and as a commander he got his whole battalion using it, and other U.S. marines found those guys so exhausting that it migrated into English slang with the meaning “overly enthusiastic”.
That’s…wild. What was I talking about?

Furnace

Everyone can join the analysis!
I tried to curl my ringfinger inward while holding my hand in Gojo's seal form but it's nearly impossible to do mostly because the ring and middle finger are connected by the same tendon. I'm positive that Suku's sign is supposed to be Gojo's also because Sukuna's hand sign was named in ch255. This seems to be part of why his construct looks so grotesque now, Sukuna basically started his DE with the trigger of someone else. I'm sure that this will be revisited again in the future
Miwa sounds really logical here. Maki might've survived MS but only extremely injured and with what was said about healing this chapter I'm not sure anymore if she can be healed by Shoko. Someone to do SD for her is a good plan.
Sukuna is definitely pulling everything out of his brain and he would sacrifice even more of the 10ST for his goal. I don't think that's the case here though 🤔 I got the impression that Sukuna used and "unused/unusual" part of his brain for MS. If it had been the 10ST part then that would've been mentioned BUT Gege has been suspicously keeping the 10ST away from this fight so there might be sth going on there (that isn't Megumi related)
Thoughts on JJK Chapter 258 (spoilers)
