Season 4 of windbreaker low key starting to suck. The latest 2 chapters are so...meant for the male gaze??? I don't even know how to put it into words but oh my god it's like the author is trying to form this shit love triangle between shelly/jay/noah even though noah said that she likes owen (maybe twice or smth I don't remember) it's like he wants to form this harem for jay and it's not entertaining at all.

But yall the latest chapter is so weird and so fucking frustrating. Like the sexualization of noah is just too much LIKE I DON'T WANT TO SEE HER ASS EVERY SINGLE GODDAMN CHAPTER FOR GOD'S SAKE😭🙏🏽 And this ain't me saying that I'm fine with male characters being naked but can't stand it with female characters.

But the whole thing with noah is just so weird, every single chapter she's in the most weird position while riding the bike and ppl overlook it like omg.

ever since ss 4 started the author has been pushing noah to be one of those girls who have a crush on jay which is fine but it's getting too much now. And he's been creating his rift between jay/shelly shippers vs jay/noah shippers which is so unnecessary like hello this is a sport manhwa we don't anymore love triangles + it would be weird if all that development that jay and shelly had would be thrown under the bus just for creating a stupid love triangle.

AND THE LATEST CHAPTER? too much fan service like i promise wtv happened in the latest chapter won't serve the plot of the story and would just create problems with jay & shelly + within the fandom.

An analysis of Wooin from Windbreaker

First of all, this is not going to be an in depth analysis of Wooin due to little screen time and character development. 

It’s shown that Wooin only does what he does for the enjoyment. 

He’s unhinged in a way that is entertaining. He’s best described as a borderline sociopath. 

Beyond that it’s hard to tell if he has other motives, and most likely doesn’t. He loves to sit back and watch peoples issues unravel in front of him and gets money for doing it. He’s been shown offering the enhancement drugs to those going against the hummingbird crew and giving them the routes of the race in order to give them the upper hand. In the end it never works, hummingbird always prevails. 

I know nobody asked for this but I do have to make a comparison between Wooin and Noah. I’m already aware a majority of the fandom will disagree with me but Noah is an annoyance. I feel like the author got bored of the original antagonists and decided to add new ones that were completely irrelevant to the story. The reason I say this is because the characters already given are incredibly intriguing, and character development is still needed for a majority of the characters. The author has chosen to add a bunch of side stories of battles between Jay and Owens team members. He even decided to go as far as making Noah romantically interested in Jay. None of this makes sense. Why add drama that simply isn’t needed. Especially after Jay and Shelly’s relationship became an official thing. Owens involved but now Noah (WTH). 

To me, Noah is the authors replacement of Wooin. It’s been like forever since the last time we’ve seen the Sabbath crew. No more development has been given to them when they are one of the main antagonists of the story. I just don’t get it.

Mia Kim (Part I)

  I’m just going to start by saying this, Mia as a character doesn’t get enough credit nor appreciation. The audience disliked her character from the very beginning, just because she was in the “way” of Shelly’s and Jay’s relationship. which is utter bullshit Jay was in love with Mia to some degree, but never had the ability to tell her his honest feelings. Neither did she. This lead them to part ways romantically and fall in love with other people. Now, here is my more in depth analysis for this wonderful lady:

  Mia’s personality may be described as shy, innocent, reserved your normal introvert. These characteristics of hers were shown through part I and II of the story. She was bullied throughout her life affecting her self-esteem. This gives reason as to why she never confessed her immense feelings towards Jay. She believed her worth was never enough. This was one of the reasons the audience grew disdain towards her character. This includes the “rivalry” between her and Shelly. I’m going to say this again, Shelly was the intrusion in Jay’s life. Jay never asked Shelly to be by his side at all times. Additionally, Jay still had feelings for Mia when Shelly arrived. Of course this was put in the story to add drama, but this gives no reason for people to dislike Mia’s character. I have a few things to say about this, but I’ll only speak one. This shows how immature and apathetic fans within Windbreaker can be as with any fandom. 

Now the question is, when did her development begin?   

  Her mindset begin to change when she was recruited to be a model. Of course this was a shock to her, but she chose to fight her insecurities and involve herself in something completely new. I believed the first person she told was Minu. She chose to keep it hidden at first because she believed if she went spreading around the information, people would get a bad take on her. The fact that she was able to tell Minu about this shows why they are so close now. 

  Now, one of her next hardships involves Hwangyeon’s devious deeds. Her recruiter (who knows Hwangyeon personally) brought her along with him to have dinner. Hwangyeon set this up so he would be able to race with Jay (because he knew Jay and Mia had relations). Hwangyeon’s “friend” then takes a secretive photo of Mia posting it to the media as if she is spending her time with random men for the “enjoyment”. This photo (and others): 

  In less than a day, her peers got a hold of this information and took it into their own hands. Many spreading the untruthful words of her character. This then reminds her of her past life of bullying, which she tried too hard to get past, and completely breaks down and refuses to go back. Her friends try to convince her to go back, but she refuses. Shelly then steps in and tells her that her selfish actions are hurting those around her. She realizes that the best thing she could do is go back even stronger and fight the fight, in which she did.

I wanna tell y’all a little bit about how DGM has influenced my life. I’ve been follow the series since it was first released in 2004. It got me through some really dark times. It was one of the only constants in my life and brought me joy weekly then monthly and now quarterly. Mana’s (Nea’s) words of “Don’t stop, Keep walking” had such an impact on my life. It was my senior quote. Hoshino-Sensei is such an incredible and talent artist and story teller. Thank you for making my dark life quite a bit brighter Hoshino-Sensei!

One Outs, Episode 21

I mean, canonically we know who’s at the other end of that chain. But a viewer can dream -

one of the most frustrating (and offensive) arguments used to discredit garou is that OPM intentionally gave him a comparatively "arbitrary" backstory, parodying the tragic backstory trope. but i find this so counter to some of the story's central themes that i think it's worth explicitly addressing.

OPM does not discredit its characters' emotional baggage. king's anxiety is real, and worthy of empathy. darkshine's insecurity has a material effect on his life. death gatling feeling wronged directly affects his hero work. the whole story is centered around saitama's overwhelming ennui, and this is treated with so much narrative weight, especially during his fight with boros. all of this matters. because people matter. the story does not ridicule them. it validates them. why wouldn't it?

garou's trauma isn't as simple as "he got bullied." (and no bullying is simple or silly.) garou was alienated, isolated, and socially rejected. he was taught that his authentic self is not worthy of respect or care. it was endlessly reinforced that the only thing that matters about him is his strength. of course he thinks violence is the only path forward. his behavior is a direct result of his formative years being marked by severe trauma.

not only is it unproductive to compare emotional pain and trauma with whatever yardstick someone cooks up, it's cruel and demonstrates a deep seated lack of empathy. and, quite frankly, it shows poor reading comprehension. garou's identity is malformed, and the tragedy of it is that he's allowed people's perceptions of him to decide who he is. his lack of confidence comes from that, and blaming him for how he feels is ridiculously out of step with the narrative. wanna fault him for his actions? go for it. faulting him for being hurt? man, fuck you.

On Itoshi Sae

Teeny essay-ish post ahead. Tread carefully, because I get so crazy about him lol

DISCLAIMER!! I'M NOT SAYING ANY OF THIS IS 100% CANON! THIS ENTIRE POST IS ME SPECULATING BASED ON WHAT WE'VE BEEN SHOWN IN THE MANGA! NONE OF IT IS FACT PLSSSS

(written before the u20 match ended)

Starting from the beginning, we all know that Sae was a rude kid growing up, even to adults, although Rin was always the exception. He could've been nicer, sure, but it's no secret that Sae treated Rin differently than everybody else.

Even after Sae came back from Spain, his attitude towards Rin didn't change.

Hear me out.

When they're initially talking, Sae is clearly not okay. He's talking in vague, short sentences, is being dismissive, more closed off, and overall just looks terrible. Rin definitely notices this, and is a bit shocked seeing Sae again, and even asks if he'd lost weight.

Although Sae isn't being his usual self, he's not being super mean or rude, if anything he just seems depressed.

Why though? Well, duh, it's because he can't follow his dream as a striker. Not that he won't, but that he can't.

It's said in the first chapter, "In the world of football... It is possible to produce elite goalkeepers, defenders, and midfielders. However, the same cannot be said of strikers."

Sae, no matter how badly he wants it, or how hard he works for it, will never be the best striker in the world. I'm not too sure what happened in Spain, seeing as that hasn't been revealed yet, but if anything did happen, it was that his dreams were for sure crushed. And he's obviously not handling it well.

So back to that night in the wintertime. Sae tells Rin he wants to be the best midfielder instead of striker. This is when things start to get a bit messy. Rin is rightfully confused and starts asking why, Sae gets defensive and tells him to shut up instead of explaining himself, and things just keep escalating until Rin says that thing he said that snapped my heart in two </3

And that's when Sae's attitude towards Rin shifts. You can pretty much see it happen.

He's probably still hurt and angry because of what Rin said.

In saying that, Rin is essentially bashing Sae for something that's not only out of his control, but also something he doesn't even want. And it probably hurts even more than that because even despite those things, he was still willing to put his own feelings aside to help Rin become the best striker. Sae would’ve settled for a position he didn’t want, would’ve been fine with giving up on his own dream if it meant Rin could have his. It's not like this is something hidden you have to read between the lines to see, he just up and says it.

The intention behind it gets muddled with all that's happening, but it's definitely there; he still cared about Rin and wanted the best for him up until the peak of their argument.

Now don't get me wrong. I'm not saying Rin is entirely to blame for their falling out. I'm just putting Sae's POV into words because he's a lot more complex and not explained thoroughly in canon like Rin is.

I do understand why Rin lashed out the way he did that night. Sae said it himself, he doesn't understand the world and clearly doesn't understand why Sae couldn't hold up his end of their deal. The way Rin sees it, Sae just up and changed positions out of nowhere.

It doesn't help either that Sae refuses to explain anything to him. Probably because he’s ashamed/disappointed in himself and can’t admit he was a failure to his own little brother, who looks up to him dearly. But y’all didn’t hear that from me.

And I'm not saying Sae is some sort of angel. He was being a huge asshole to Rin, telling him to quit. (And also saying that he makes him vomit, and also saying he's trash, and also saying he's worthless, and also saying he's an eyesore of a little brother, and also—) He's for sure not faultless. Even though I seriously want to believe that he didn't mean anything he said that night, it seems unlikely. He was frustrated, angry, hurt, and tired. I wouldn't put it past him to mouth off the worst things he can think of just to let off steam.

All in all, it sucks that things between Rin and Sae ended up this way. They genuinely cared about each other and talked like regular brothers do and it was SWEET and ENDEARING and it made me CRY

They're both just far too broken. Like, can't-even-be-on-the-same-field-without-starting-something, broken. They make me so sad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Although, I do find it interesting that despite all Sae's done to him, Rin doesn't think they're on bad terms. He says this,

As much as he might want to, it really seems like he doesn't hate Sae. Everything he's done since that night has been so they can get their dream back and he can play with his older brother again as a striker duo. He still believes in what Sae said before their 1v1.

Whiiiiiiich makes this whole thing hurt even more. Because Sae knows he can't be a striker, but still said that. He has so little hope in Rin that he'd send him on a wild goose chase, chasing a dream that can never come into fruition. It almost sounds cruel.

I just wanna lock them in a room together and force them to sort their shit out. I miss them so much T—T
