Fair but also like...in my opinion, they should have them because they had them in previous generations and this is a remake of the coats of that generation. People have bought the white gen 2 Friesians so they deserve a gen 3 version as well (and not just as the Jorvik Friesian model). Idk, it always ticks me off whenever SSO updates a breed but doesn't include all the original coat colours. 😅

I think a lot of the weird cheery mood of SSO’s current graphics (which actually is something even I as a VERY new (2020) player have bemoaned) would be fixed if they just fucking. Slapped a few filters and lighting effects on that bad boy.

Crank up that mist in the distance and make it a bit greyer. Maybe even put some mist on the ground like there was in that Hollow Woods main quest (like remember how cool and mysterious that was when the mist appeared before the quest and we were all wildly speculating?? Yeah). Make the nights less saturated and the twilights more golden. Make the forests a little darker and put some more shrubbery in there. Bring back the bloom effect. Generally just give different environments different moods thru giving them different lighting effects. Yknow?

If anything the cheeriness of Jorvik now could be very cleverly used to up the sense of mystery and how unsettling some environments are if they just, like, dared to make environments more unsettling and mysterious. Jorvik is SUPPOSED to be a happy cheery bright beautiful island… but with something very strange lurking right around the corner. We’ve got the happy cheery, but the “something lurking right around the corner” is what’s missing. Right now that’s saved for the very important story areas—the Stone Circle, Fort Maria, the Oil Rig. I think putting more little things like that in more places around the map and upping the atmosphere where we already have hints of it would really up the variety and atmosphere of Jorvik

ive been thinking abt this recently but if there is one thing i miss abt older sso is its general atmosphere, honestly i think thats where a lot of current resentment toward the game from players comes from. from the darker/faded colors to old textures, everything felt mysterious and almost gloomy. the current graphics are much more saturated, and i feel as if any of the mystery or weird easter eggs (the demon statues, fridge doors, abandoned summer house etc) are forgotten about, theres no new mildly unsettling stuff to wonder about anymore.

what reinforces this idea to me is something someone said on reddit, they explained how 99% of the problems people point out abt current sso have always been there. in retrospect, the story has always been just Ok (saying this as someone who loves the storyline, this doesnt mean you cant enjoy it) w inconsistencies and retcons, the game has always been notoriously buggy, and even before the prices went up it was still expensive. these problems are not new but people are more angry than ever over them today, and while i do believe a lot of it is simply nostalgia and the feeling of outgrowing a game from childhood, i also understand how the game feels more "boring" now even though we've been getting more story quests now than over the last decade.

if i had to pinpoint where the game had this huge shift, i'd probably point to when mistfall was released (although it very well could have been Before that but im speaking as someone who started playing after south hoof was released, the change in tone and mood could have started then or even before), and it adds up with the communitys growing hostility that became more apparent within the next two years after that.

tldr, the game feels sanitized and devoid of any alure or mystery to many players and they get angry over problems that had always been there
