he mentions in WAD that he's mostly vegan, which, i'm assuming is still the truth

wrt outsiders not getting wad (which i completely agree with) dan's general persona is so strange to me bc he claims to want to escape the yt bubble but wad (and some of his other projects) just feel so tailored to his yt audience's tastes and have almost zero broad appeal for general audiences. i always wonder what causes this disconnect for him, as in how does he expect to garner widespread "legitimacy" when his content doesn't seem to speak to that at all

yeah. he definitely doesn't know how to do that (which is understandable, he was raised on youtube, and management companies don't know what to do with youtubers either, it seems. so there's literally no help). and we're going back and forth a little bit. like, wad was an experiment and experience, and he came back to us after trying to gain people from the outside and failing.

it's a never-ending conversation 😅

#dans content relies on you knowing who he is. & not in an egotistical sense. but its self-referential. its got years of his history baked in #he is extremely aware of how everything thats happened to him has shaped him. so he likes to talk about it. #hes spent *years* not really introducing himself bc hes so fucking famous on youtube so he doesnt Need an introduction #he sees it a little bit like 'alright now heres dan to dance like the monkey he is' #and part of it he hates. cause he craves that mainstream validation (its his white whale). but he also doesnt want to entirely start over #hes not a stand-up comedian. he even alludes to it in his bahamas video--he doesnt just have a joke on stand-by. its not what he does. #his humour is so personality based. it works well for him. hes found his niche. but it makes it difficult to be anything else. #and the disconnect shows in the content. like how he tries to 'generally' present himself as professional ( #if a bit crude & gay) but thats not Only who he is. he likes to be silly and swear and be creative and goofy. to laugh loud and often #he jumps between what he wants to be seen as. how he wants to be perceived. what his goals are. and how it all helps. #my favourite dan is our current dapg dan. hes happy but still snarky. hes clever. hes goofy. he doesnt have his walls up. hes not performing #and while he can perform (i think he does WAD very well). i think its hard to Only be that yknow? #idk im rambling. #dnp #c.text

i was trying to come up with some quippy thing to say, but honestly? i'm proud of us. this is a really neat showing of just how active and engaged we are as a community--i think we've forgotten how loud and proud we can be, it doesn't matter that there's less of us now, we're still a big community filled with determined people.
