I just finished reading as waves sweep to the shore and it was great!! They are so fucked up!! I love them for it!! The relationship building was fantastic and I cried happy tears during the painting scene!! Of course I cried a lot during this from many emotions but the happy tears are uncommon from me. My favorite moment was when Jason told himself that they were both allowed to be fucked up volatile. It showed effort and love and was amazing!! The memories from before were great and added a lot of depth to Jason’s grief. God Bruce was the worst in this. It made worse because I know enough to have a vague idea of what he was thinking and he sucks so much here. Dick asking to come home made me take several moments to pull myself into some kind of order. I also started bawling when Dick relates too hard to the frog. Jason finding him was magnificent!! The catharsis was real and what I needed desperately!! The ending scene was everything I didn’t know I needed and was so loving. I love this and will be rereading this anytime I want a full emotional journey!

Hello! I've been binge reading all your works on ao3 and I LOVED the disguise is always a self portrait. Since I'm not familiar with your posting pattern, I was wondering if you're still working on it and if you plan to update it? I'm obsessed with it and I was just wondering if we should be waiting for more any time soon (tho istg I'll wait forever if I have too)

It’s definitely not abandoned and I do plan to update eventually, I’ve just become really busy with school and other things in my life. Just wondering, are you gonna continue the work ‘Smoke Signals’ or is it gonna stay like a one-shot? I would love to see a little doodle or continuation of Dick recovering from his ED. I’m fighting Bulimia (medically diagnosed) and I love to see this type of things, they inspire me to get better and remember that even tho this isn’t my fault, I can get better! I know we’re enjoying all the fanart of smiley, happy Dick as Robin to complement a shy, broody Battinson. But I definitely prefer angry, vengeful Dick, at least to start out. Angry Dick Grayson is not only more tonally compatible with the Batman, it has the capacity to be incredibly funny.

Things a rage-filled Dick could entail for the Battinson universe:

Bruce having to employ the “learn one, do one, teach one” method to the concept of “you cannot live for vengeance alone” like… thirty minutes after figuring it out for himself.

Alfred radiating UNIMAGINABLE smugness in every scene in which all three of them appear. As far as Alfred is concerned this is karma for all the shit Bruce pulled at that age.

A Bruce who is suddenly acutely aware of exactly what it is like to be in charge of a highly intelligent orphan hell-bent on revenge. He keeps shooting increasingly panicked looks in Alfred’s direction.

Alfred is very pointedly not returning these looks. After all, as Bruce keeps moodily reminding him, he is not Bruce’s father. Therefore, that’s not his grandbaby.

Unfortunately while Bruce and Alfred were engaging in their nonverbal argument about the pitfalls of impulse-adoption, Not-His-Grandbaby has climbed onto the chandelier. He is now refusing to come down.

All suggestions that maybe he should come down are met with incredibly moody scoffs and incredulous barbs along the lines of, “what, do you think I’ll fall?”

The chandelier is over a hundred years old. The Manor, which stood abandoned for almost a decade has only just been re-opened since Bruce has Ideas about the Appropriate Place to Raise a Child. It has not been very well maintained. The entire ceiling is creaking ominously.

In an explosion of chemical showers and cat brains, Jason gives up on school. But Dick's not the type of guy to give up--not on Jason, and not on the outdated dumpsterfire of a coffee shop they both work at.

This fic, after a year of posting and even longer spent writing, is complete! If you need a more detailed description: picture no-capes high school drop out Jason being forced by Bruce—whose approval he desperately longs for—to get a job. He works at a coffee shop owned by Slade with hot manager Dick, as well as Barbara, Tim, and Rose. When the shop fails a health inspection, they have one month to get it up to code, or they’ll be shut down forever, and Jason might lose his chance to be with Dick!
