- live to create beauty that will live on forever

Okay I’m pretty happy that I started reading A Little Life just now. I wouldn’t have understood all the emotions etc. when I was younger.
Phrases I said aloud repeatedly while reading A Little Life:
“What the fuck?”
“Oh my god.”
“WHAT?”
“STOP!!!”
“Jude, no.”
“Oh, Jude.”
“Oh, Willem.”
“Willem, don’t leave!”
“Willem, come home!”
“WILLEM!!!”
“ANDY!”
*Loud sighing*
*Groaning like Tina Belcher*
*Gross sobbing*

I bought a copy of Donna Tartt’s The Secret History from a thrift store but I didn’t like the cover, so I made new ones.

boys will be boys, and by that i mean they’ll start secret societies at their elite academies devoted to reading poetry in a cave and learn the true meaning of love and art and happiness in the face of tragedy and the existential conflicts of life

I felt this.
just thinking about the time in 6th grade when i saw this photo of (aged/white) greek statues in my history book and the entire room decided to go dead silent as my little voice rung out:

*long exasperated sigh*

use some moss

dark academia but in 2020 and gen z
- staying up late in the dark reading wikipedia articles on obscure topics on your phone
- researching random things that caught your interest instead of paying attention to your zoom classes/ doing homework
- reading during zoom classes
- checking daily if your local library reopened
- notes app poetry at 4 am
- reading by candlelight at night just because lamps are too bright and you might get caught by your parents
- waking up early to watch the sunrise before online school
- developing a coffee addiction over quarantine
- wearing dramatic coats and button ups etc to just go to the supermarket

some books i’ve read this year with couple of notes
The Secret History by Donna Tartt - I needed to mention it here, I am sorry. But the first time I read it, I haven't yet started to study philosophy. I missed all the philosophy references and to be honest this book is dionysiac. But now, after rereading it, I understood more. Not for everyone, too much thinking for most of the people.
The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller - I don't enjoy fantasy, but in my opinion, this book is nothing like fantasy. It is a love story about a passionate love between two men in Ancient Greek. It's a mythical story, and somehow it is written beautifully. You don't need to be a classical philologist to read this.
Grand Illusion by Mika Waltari - This novel is rather short and filled with bohemian lifestyle on the happy 20s. I'd say this has a pretty similar vibe to The Great Gatsby. Innocent, lots of smoking and drinks. Nice vibe.
