And finally, last but certainly not least, our favorite loser cringefail time-traveler-by-dying-a-lot, Subaru!

Unsure how obvious it is, but a majority of the details in Subaru’s outfit are directly related to Homura’s outfit for what should be obvious reasons. Even his boots are based off of concept art from Homura’s outfit. I also wanted to give him almost a jester theme, which is most prominent in his pants, inspired by the fact that his tarot card from some of the special addition novels (iirc) is the fool card (I also gave him this theme, along with the design of his hood, to resemble a certain mega witch :) this is also the reasoning behind the prominent ‘gears’ motif in his weapon and soul gem design).

His weapon is a cat of nine tails whip based on the one he has in the novels and apparently season three according to the new trailer (hype!!!). Though it’s a cat of nine tails, it only has seven tails with stars at the end to represent his namesake. Stars are not only prominent in his weapon and soul gem design, but all of his design. In fact, I put several star motifs in all of the magi designs that I have done! If you have a keen eye you may have noticed that already! :)

And with Subaru’s design finished, I’m done with all of the magi designs I’m going to do! Finally! I may do aspects of the seven witches of sin’s designs in this au and definitely the characters’ individual witches at a later, more appropriate date, for the sake of not spoiling this au’s plot for anyone. And yes, I have decided to make this an official au after all! I will announce more information on this later on with a surprise for y’all, but for now this is the end of the magi design line up. But as a whole this is just the beginning… :)

I’ll say what I said in the Emilia design post again, but it really makes me happy even a few people love my ideas and designs so much, as cliché as it is to say. Really, thank you, it means the world to me :) I’m also excited and eagerly awaiting the upcoming results for the Re:Zero zine contributors, I can’t wait!

I don’t really have much to say about her in regards to what her powers or wish would be in relation to her design since in my au she hasn’t made a contract (yet… ;) and talking about it here would be spoilers lol), but what I can say is that I wanted her outfit to be very reminiscent of Madoka’s magical girl form (you know, for the Homura x Madoka / Subaru x Emilia parallel) (also some Satella elements like the roses because, you know :) ). I also took note of the spin-off magical girl event in the game Lost in memories where they have magical girl designs for some of the characters, and they happened to have one for Emilia, so I took a lot of inspiration from her outfit used there. Since the majority of y’all voted for her to have the main color in her outfit be white, I went with that for her top and boots and made most everything else a different shade of purple.

A quick aside, I really want to thank all of you who voted on the poll and gave positive comments/ feedback on not just the designs that I’ve made so far but on the art that I’ve been posting here since last year. I know saying this is cliché (and even saying it’s cliché is too) but it really does mean a lot seeing so many people like my art and my ideas. I have been posting art for a while now (on Instagram but I’m pretty new here so bear with me 😂) but I have never really seen as much engagement with my stuff as I have on other platforms and I’m really happy about that :) I have a hell of a lot more to make and show you not only about this au but in general, and I am so glad all of you will be able to see it and I hope you like it to. Thank you for everything so far!

Now with the sappy shit out of the way, I’ll go over a few last thoughts I had about Emilia’s weapon and soul gem.

I didn’t know what to give her for a weapon since in canon she makes a lot of her weapons out of ice, so I just decided to give her a typical magical girl wand/staff since I thought it would fit her and it’s what she wields in the Lost in Memories spin-off. I made the staff look similar to Madoka’s bow (again, parallels) with elements of the concept art for the magical girl rings in pmmm and of Madoka’s soul gem at the bottom. The crystal star shape on top of the wand is also a Madoka reference because it’s the same star on her grief seed and Law of cycles symbol / witch kiss. I also made it crystal sort of call back to Puck’s crystal.

Now for Emilia’s soul gem I made it look like a certain key that appeared in season two… It was based on the comment by a certain someone that said something along the lines of “imagine you are the key.”… This character is very important to this au not just in the world of Lugunica… :)

What's your thoughts on Wish Upon a Sin by HoboWizard

like all the other times people have asked me for my opinions on fics, im gonna link the author/fic and explain the fic’s plot really quick - so the link to hobowizard's ao3 profile is here if youre interested in reading his stuff!!

so wish upon a sin, for those who dont know, is a fic where every time subaru dies, he goes back in time (like canon, yes) only - his save point never updates. it's stuck at when he first got isekaied into the fantasy world, meaning that every time he dies he loses a Shit Ton Of Progress. which is an Extremely fascinating plot and hobowizard is one of if not the most qualified writer for an idea That Ambitious HAH.

and that being said. i really really recommend reading hobo's fics in general for sure. ive read the first couple chapters for wish upon a sin Ages ago and 1. i dont have much time for everything anymore rip :< and 2. i struggle with focusing on things sometimes so i often dont read or finish longfics, so thats just the case for me with wish upon a sin and hobo's other longfic (so maybe im not 100% the target audience), but yes ive read the first couple chapters for each of those longfics a while back!! and i cannot recommend them enough.

wish upon a sin is absolutely gonna be the fic for you if you want a Very long fic thats plotty and centered around subaru that Really explores all the different avenues he can take - like this fic has a very strong premise and then explores it to the Absolute fullest!! i cannot praise it enough hah. its really good!!! and ill always be impressed with hobo's work.

i think my only real criticism (and like all the criticism i give for fics i mean it very Lightly, and also hobo's work is really good already so HAH) is that hobo's biggest strength is plot. he's really really good at complex plot and writing very plotty fics!! but there were a few times in the first chapters of wish upon a sin where i personally wished that the story got to slow down a bit and explore subaru's feelings more in depth. its touched on over and over in the story of course, which is great!! but for my own personal taste i couldnt Feel the full emotional impact bc the plot had to keep moving and moving, if that makes sense? :o and this is a pretty small criticism imo too haaah bc hobo's grammar, writing style, plot beats, general characterization, etc are all very solid. and im sure that, as with a lot of long fics, hobo's writing improves even more with every chapter of wish upon a sin so <3 and i can definitely attest to that given hobo's recent fic!!

anyway i know this ask is mainly about wish upon a sin but id like to also shoutout hobo's recent fic, which is a collab with rajvir - people who've been Around on rezero ao3 mightve seen rajvir a bit (he's commented on several fics in the past!) but yeah their fic return of the lion king is a long fic centered on the fourier, felix, crusch trio. which is a rarity in terms of english fic!! its also been updating pretty regularly so if youve liked hobo's work before and you find this fic interesting id recommend checking that out too :o theres soo so many characters in rezero and id love to keep seeing more in depth fic for more of the cast, so this fic is great to see!! :o

Which medium adapted the Subaru x Otto content from season 4 better? I loved what the mangaka did with the scenes in the manga, so I think that would be my choice. I think that it made it more evident that Otto loves Subaru (more than a friend)

HAH i feel like the more i squint at ottosuba content across all the various rezero medias the more its like. Wow something is going on there. and at the very least otto’s gotta have Some kind of romantic feelings there. even just a bit. though of course first and foremost im a big fan of their friendship and dynamic in general!! i also think itd be interesting to see takes on them where its like. Something is going on here but its hard to put into words…. hard to define for various reasons….. except for codependency. they both reek of codependency the further you get into rezero. lmfao i hate these twinks 😭

ANYWAY i think basically all mediums did a great job with ottosubas dynamic in their own ways!! arc 4 wn and ln have way more detail and are the originals, right, and then you have the anime and getting to see everything animated and colored and hear the voice actors’ performance!! plus the specific otto’s diary episodes is a nice touch of getting what they couldnt put in the main series into the show regardless haah. and i do actually enjoy subaru and otto’s english vas a lot too, they did great as well (im still begging for an english dub of rezero breaktime season 2. cries).

my only beef with the anime is no al dona :((((((((( i completely get it bc its like. s2 staff had to work during quarantine and then they had to fit in a shit ton of stuff from arc 4–im still a little emo over no al dona but pffttt it aint that serious for me. it was cool though!! like ok for anyone seeing this who doesnt know abt it, al dona is a higher level earth spell that otto used against garfiel during their arc 4 fight in the final loop!! otto was only able to use this bc he got mana from all the animals of sanctuary’s forest (who were all pissy at garfiel for being loud and disruptive towards them HAH). it was a super cool moment where otto’s fighting for subaru’s sake of course and otto’s pulling out like All The Stops against garfiel, badass earth spell leveling the ground included!!

anyway manga included al dona so i am happy :)

and also the manga made this beautiful cover….. oughhh….. the colors…… the softness…. (and not otto glancing at subaru… 😭😭 also making otto’s eyes a brighter blue is a fun design choice!!)

manga also included my other favorite ottosuba moment of all time…… the one where otto’s like “lol the moment i see danger ill just start running for the hills hehe no big deal” and then subaru’s like “lmao no you wouldnt you silly <333 youd never leave me <333 bc youre my friend <33” and then otto’s like “UMMM UMMM UMMM 😳😳😳😳😳😳😳”. the otto’s diary episodes also included this moment too (which was excellently depicted and voiced!!) but i think what the manga has over the anime is having that time to slow down a bit and include these smaller (but still important in their own ways) moments and really show it off!!

bc if u compare that latter moment in the manga vs otto’s diary, again theyre both good in their own right but i love how the manga really elevates that moment!! like i think i made a brief tumblr reblog about this a while back—like you can see what otto’s probably thinking off of his super expressive faces here. like he goes “im just gonna bullshit a bit, bc like id totallyyyyy ditch subarus ass at the first sign of danger. please ignore how i risked my life for him like twenty minutes ago. ….wait what the hell is subaru saying. waIT WHAT YOURE TELLING ME THAT ID NEVER LEAVE YOU?? WITH SUCH CONFIDENCE??? 😳😳😳”

and also the manga made it slightly more HomosexuelleTM if you choose to read it that way. bc of otto blushing and being caught off guard by subaru confidently going “nah youd never leave me”. like. they really just both agreed theyd stick with each other Forever. till death do us part amirite haha :,) (theyve both known each other for like a week). and also most english speaking people don’t watch otto’s diary episodes or engage with otto centric content much so HAH…. but yes the ottos diary episodes being separate from the main show might be a bit wack. the manga including a bunch of details from the get go that mayve been cut or glossed over in the anime is nice!!

so yes in terms of visual medium id say i really like the manga’s style and attention to detail and the anime as well for 1. putting so much effort into designing otto’s family and hometown and 2. the voice acting, music, animation, etc :)

my heart is still stolen by arc 4 wn though if only bc thats 1. how i first experienced arc 4 and 2. arc 4 wn ottosuba is so…. idk how much carries into the ln but they were UNHINGED even in moments where theyre just talking back and forth in a room together okay. i feel like you might forget it a little with anime or manga but in the wn its like. wtf is wrong with both of you LMFAOO like their banter was on a whole other level there. there was kind of this sharp edge to it, almost!! which is fascinating!! it was basically subaru roping otto into working for the emilia camp and then going “hehe now youre stuck here teehee lol im never letting you go :)) youre such a silly guy 🥰🥰 youll never escape from me :)” with the same energy of patting your pet dog on the head while otto’s like “WTFFF YOU ARE SO CONFUSING!! THE WORST!! WHY ARE YOU TEASING ME SO MUCH???” bc almost all of their interactions is them going “….maaaaybe i like you a bit lol” and “lemme drop a tiiiiny bit of personal info about myself” but its like buried a bit in between 100 layers of both of them being cunty. and then four days later theyve gotten platonically married. lmao 😭

anyway i really like this scene below :)) the layers of ottosuba’s cuntiness being pulled away a bit…. bc subaru’s warmed up to otto a bit and theyre both going “huh why am i sticking with this guy?? hes just different to me…” and then ottosuba both evaluating each other… and also i didnt fully include it here but otto talks about his dream of opening up his own store and hes like “idek why im telling you this but 😳” and then he gets embarassed about it lmao 😭😭 and then subaru’s like “huh. nice. …..anyway time to be a cunt again to cover up how i actually kinda like his company lololol”. they are SO STUPID HAH.

and. of course. i will never let any of you forget the absolute best ottosuba line of all time:

What's your thoughts on a Re:zero Actor Au

there is like absolutely little to no ideas id say no to, just bc i think the vast majority of ideas/tropes/etc could be utilized creatively in a lot of ways and be executed well in its own right!!! go for whatever youd like the possibilities are endless!!! i love seeing variety even if its stuff i wouldnt personally gravitate towards usually!!

HELL YEAH ACTOR AU i think actor aus are super fun and pretty funny - like when i think of actor aus i think of those silly fanarts you see in fandoms sometimes lajdfl where theyre like depictions of how a "blooper reel" would look with the characters? but you could definitely go in more serious directions with rezero actor au if you wanted im sure!! especially when canon brings up theatre and acting and stories a lot - maybe the actor au is even a musical theatre actor au? but also i do not have the musical theatre experience to really speak details on that HAH im just a musical theatre fan. but yeah you could take an actor au in a lot of directions!! different genres, like comedy or drama... different plots too, and same goes for depicting it visually. itd be fun!!

The fanbase is scaring me, the redesigns brought up some weird people that are REALLY passionate about Liliana being half naked

My problem is with the amount of people upset with this, like i knew we had a bunch of pedos around because of the way tappei writes the girls, but damn i didnt think there were this many of them 💀

yes ive heard about that....... im answering your ask late oops haah but i hope the situations a Bit better..... the toxic parts of this fandom give me a headache but my usual motto is to stay off twitter, touch grass, ignore people, and then hold onto my own viewpoints unless proven wrong alsjdflsdj but like. yeah this fandom is a bit tough to stay in when it comes to certain circles (for example the amount of people low quality shitposting / ranting about the fandom or whatever on rezero ao3 atm in the past days/weeks is. mm. interesting). not my first time being in larger fandoms that make you sometimes feel like youre fighting in the trenches (you could name off a few big fandoms notorious for being toxic that date back to like 2016 and odds are ive been in a couple lajdlf) but yeah seeing people complain about liliana and capella's designs and then overly fixate on emilia's boobs when these three characters have more to bring to the table than just that and theres lots and lots of good things to say about the s3 trailer and their designs..... mm. yeah. im squinting hard at a few of the things ive heard on that. but anyway!!

like the new designs are an Improvement. In General. like ok, as a boob haver myself ("boob haver" is the funniest phrase to me alsdjfls but it is true nonetheless, i am one) i do not give a shit about emilias larger boobs like ok?? her boobs are bigger?? she is still my fav ever and sometimes it just happens when youre still a growing teen/young adult and emilias back to her more revealing main outfit when she wore a different outfit in s2 so the difference in chest size is really not that much. but liliana and capella? those are Improved designs. i think ive talked abt the treatment of underage characters / characters who appear underage on my blog before (and i definitely couldve worded myself better then but i stand behind the fact that some of the stuff otsuka and tappei do regarding this in rezero is just Unnecessary).

could designs like emilia's still be improved on in other ways? yeah 100%, just in the sense that there could probably be changed a bit to fit her slightly more timid and soft spoken personality. or you could take different directions on it in general if you wanted. ive seen some great redesigns of her main outfit!! though her main outfit in of itself is pretty nice to look at imo and its iconic and well-known for a reason. im of the personal opinion that i wish it was a little less revealing in the same vein that her s2 main outfit was (i like that outfit a lot!!) but its still a really solid design overall.

i had some faith after seeing the anime designers fix up typhoon's original design to be More Appropriate, and i love how the essence of liliana and capella's designs were kept the same. like its not just that theyre a little less revealing (and even then, theyre both still showing a lot of skin!!! which is good!!! i like the improvement while keeping the main stuff the same), but stuff like liliana's pants aren't transparent (probably to make it easier to animate?) and the yellow/orange gradient in capella's hair looks great!! they also both look more like grown women which is a bonus. unless youre Weird about this shit which is unfortunately a small percentage of the rezero community. like you cant win with those sort of people ig, bc capella's boobs are bigger too ljasdlfj youd think that win more people over.

also i appreciate capella's sports bra bc unlike elsa's outfit it Actually looks like it's supporting her chest. if youre someone with boobs and you dont have a flat chest, youre gonna need support when being active or itll Hurt. and elsa Does Not have proper chest support okay. ill forever wince remembering elsa's design in that sense HAH....

anyway but i digress. i got no clue what to do with toxic people in fandoms despite spending a lot of time lurking in large fandoms with loud toxic people haah.... its hard to do much about it especially with increasingly declining media literacy rates everywhere.... the notorious misogyny/homophobia/etc that can happen sometimes in anime communities.... that sort of thing. i kinda just avoid it when it comes to rezero in specific, or briefly talk about it on here, or rant about it to myself in my head or chat with pals about it in private if it really frustrates me that much!! and id say im a pretty patient person hah... im not frustrated often. and the fandom is not all weird people of course and i can attest to that as ive chatted with a lot of people here... ive also seen a lot of people leave due to the fandom's Issues which is. totally fair tbh.

and i think rezero is often a "baby's first fandom" so to speak... i dont mean that in a bad way of course but its more like its the first exposure to fandom and fandom etiquette and fic etiquette and that sort of thing when it comes to english circles. or at least its a pattern ive noticed, so my theory is that that occasionally that combines with toxic fans and then you get a few people complaining about the community and how bad our fics are on rezero ao3 ig lajdlfjsdlf. which is false by the way :<< and an annoying misuse of ao3 as a free creative archive :<<

but ultimately i hope the rezero character designer's alright (and honestly theyve done super super great work - like the anime Did Not need to give emilia a bajillion outfits and go above and beyond with improving liliana, capella, giving the suwens and their hometown a whole unique aesthetic, etc). and also while i have stuff to criticize with otsuka and tappei... and the toxic parts of the fandom hah... i still enjoy rezero apart from that and the uproar with the designs has not chipped away at me too much!! ive been in this fandom long enough i guess lmao i just roll with punches at this point T^T but i also just try to look on the bright side a lot in general so ;-;;;

these are the sorts of things i like to be aware about but i dont like to get myself super involved with it (since itll probably make it worse and/or make me stressed for no good reason lmfaoo) and i wont let it enjoy the parts of rezero that i do enjoy a lot (which is to say like. the other 98% of rezero hah). so. getting off twitter is the biggest godsend i promise lajdlsfj.

but anyway!! yeah i dont have much organized thoughts on all of this, this is just me rambling my feelings on it. hope this all makes sense anon <3
