“No, we have not,” Caligula replied, looking the other servant over for a moment.
He did not look dangerous at least although that could all change once they knew of each other. Many people had been terrified of Caligula in life; they hadn’t understood why he had apparently gone mad.
“I am Emperor Caligula, third ruler of Rome,” he said, “… Who are you?”
“A Roman, hm?” Eyebrow raised -- stubborn, the lot of them, uncouth and headstrong, if Nero is any indication. (He’s still a little bitter about the inconveniences the Romans have brought him, from life to afterwards.)
Tumblr media
But Caligula was after Archimedes’ time, and his knowledge of the emperor is thus limited, he’ll hope that Caligula proves more reasonable... even if his class doesn’t give Archimedes much cause for optimism. “I am Archimedes of Syracuse, mathematician and administrator of the Moon Cell. If you are Roman, perhaps you’ve heard of my inventions.” Just a maybe, if his harpage stuck around.

“You are blind and have no appreciation for the finer arts, I see.” Replying back in a similar tone, she paid no heed to the man. Unfortunately she was already used to the endless amount of complaints he always let out - there truly was joy lacking from the man’s life. “Fret not for I shall take time out of my day to help you heal.”
Tumblr media
“I’d prefer it if I were blind and deaf around you,” he mutters under his breath, a petulant brat. “Heal from what? If anything, you are the source of my ills, as I was doing just fine before your Master and her troupe dragged me out of my cave.” On second thought, saying that aloud makes his life sound... just a little depressing. It’s fine. “I appreciate arts just fine. Decent arts, like mathematical architecture and formulae. Perhaps you should learn the fineries of those.”

“Yes, among other things,” he replied calmly, “In this form I am a Berserker class, which is strong against most but also weak against most. I am fast though so am more likely to deal the first strike. It is all I need really.”
It might have sounded like he was bragging but everything he said was fact. A god told no lies.
“Please, I do know how the class system works.” A little bit of a huff in his tone, the shift from being praised to someone explaining basics too him was fast enough that Archimedes doesn’t have time to cover up his irritation at the latter. “Don’t underestimate my experience too much.”
Tumblr media
“Though you are more articulate than most Berserkers I worked for while I was running the Moon Cell. I wouldn’t have guessed it were your class off the bat. Well, I’ll keep your particular propensities in mind, should I ever need to monitor your fighting and inform Master of strategies befitting a first-hit fighter.”

A lying existence, she lived as a Ruler when she was supposed to be dead. An irony, someone who God supposed to hate was still walking these halls like the world did not end because of her. “Why would you want to become a Ruler? It’s not… it’s not only to maintain the balance, Caster.”  However, it wasn’t the ‘I want to’ that turned Legendary Souls into Servants, it was their quality. “You must exceptional in your own class. So many geniuses gathered under the flexible and mesmerizing class of Casters.”
Tumblr media
He laughs softly, admonished but feeling no shame. “Oh? It is on the Moon Cell, more or less. Maintain balance and stay very difficult to summon. What other criteria do you have? But, it’s probably my own selfishness that keeps me from being that class.” It would make sense. Rulers are... holy, or some such? He smiles at her, mollified but attempting to keep his ego unshown. (As subtle as his ego gets, anyways.) “I am something along those lines -- a genius, yes, but as far as Casters go, I’m an oddity who can’t perform proper spellcasting.”

“It is important work, same as on the battlefield,” he agreed calmly, “Our Master’s life is in your hands while they are in that… container, as well as their safe travel. If no one has ever told you this; thank you, for what you do.”
For without that support the master could die and with them the Servants and the world. They each had their part to play in this and if one piece failed they all would.
Archimedes’ expression quirks up in a wry half-smile. Of course, he’s been praised often, because he nigh about demands it, rambles at people until they give up, say ‘thanks for your help’ and leave him be to modify what he wants. But he won’t turn down further appreciation, especially from someone like this. He’ll play the humility role, though. “I appreciate your thanks.”
Tumblr media
“And what is it you do? A battling type of role, I assume? I haven’t had the time to go through every Servant’s dossiers and memorize them quite yet.”

“No, but it may resurface. The moon is nostalgic…” Indeed, she was a keen eye, a benevolent goddess who kept her watchful eye on them each night. Maybe somewhere, filed away in the various wars, battle & scars he has – it is there, too. “Memories are strange things. They are like a cup that never stops filling.”
Tumblr media
“I see. Nostalgia, the recollections of a future self.” What must manifest as more or less deja vu. But it’s beneficial for Archimedes to know. He inclines his head in a polite nod, a small smile adorning his expression. For all appearances, the satisfaction of a curiosity being resolved. “But a cup that never stops filling is one quick to overflow, no? Don’t tell me you’re getting overwhelmed by recollections already.”

“Shouldn’t a top-tier Heroic Spirit be able to work with allies of all attitudes without whining?” Archimedes quips back, tone light and laced with the same over-perfect (over-practiced) friendly ambivalence that decorates his person. The warlike ones are always those who see through his affectations, those who spent their lives and afterlives mired in humanity at its peaks (in both best and worst) to know what’s real. Archimedes may be a genius, but his knowledge of humans is limited.
(Underneath the placid smile: star-rotted, with intelligence and ego enough to bring the world crashing down, if he felt like finding a time and place to pull the trigger. Danger and not enough empathy to temper it. It sneaks out as mold on the edges of his veneer.)
Tumblr media
Ashwatthama’s voice is one of war, threat implicit in the tone alone, a voice that’s ordered death. Archimedes has no interest in seeing if that bladed attitude would ever get turned upon him. (But unfortunately, the hardest thing to control is his own attitude.) “If you insist, I suppose I can stop keeping an eye on people I’ve been tasked to work with.” Asshole.
He turns his gaze to the field at hand, evaluating. “I touched up the sensors before I left, so they should be more fine-tuned. The most notable magic response came from the southeast. The logical assumption is that any Servant of human-level intelligence would likely look for shelter from the rain, so anything of similar qualities would be the best place to look.” Archimedes waves a hand (perhaps a little too condescendingly, he forgets who he speaks to, forgets that he shouldn’t treat everyone as automatically beneath him), a gesture to get moving, before he steps forward into thin air. He floats an inch or so off the ground, not motivated enough to actually walk, and starts off. “Let’s go, then. You’ll have less time to complain about my appearance.”
Tumblr media
❝ Lookin’ at ya gives me a headache. Ya don’t even act like a fuckin’ person. Ever try loosening up your shoulders a bit? ‘S like I’m lookin’ at a damn machine. Seriously, quit starin’ at me with your eyes–you’re givin’ me chills! ❞ Ashwatthama’s tone sounded aggressive, the sort of cadence that carried with it notions of war and greater violence. This was not the entirety of his character, nor the most sincere demonstration of his sentiments. In truth, Archimedes unsettled him terribly. Ashwatthama was a man dominated by his passions–leonine and violent, sleeping beneath the heated sun of war and coming to rip out the moon’s throat in the night. Ah, but Archimedes was a man of the cosmos, was he not? Imbibing stardust and technology like an electronic tonic where starlight pooled.
Regardless, Ashwatthama could not bring himself to be settled by Archimedes and even working with the man was its own exquisite migraine. ❝ Look, let’s just get this job over with, yeah? ❞ They stood beneath the shade of several trees, a storm brewing on the horizon, clouds heavy with a flood it wished to spill. Ashwatthama hardly wished to be rained on, and was already attempting to determine how one might find a rogue Servant–that was why they were out and about, after all–and the sooner Ashwatthama could bash the bastard’s head in: the better.

✱ IN REGARDS TO RELATIONSHIPS !
repost and tag
Tagged by: @adelha-mathilde thank u
Tagging: uuh whoever got thru reading this mess of a man’s romance failures in this post lmao
Tumblr media
Name: Archimedes of Syracuse (human ver: Symeon Archimedes)
Gender: trans male
Romantic orientation: Confused
Sexual orientation:  Bewildered by the idea of finding out ever coming up
Preferred pet names: “You’re telling me people have preferences and get to choose that?”
Relationship status: barely even acknowledges he has any positive emotions at all, much less any positive emotions for anyone.
Opinion on true love: The business of more emotive people.
Opinion on love at first sight: Definitely the business of impulsive people.
How ‘romantic’ are they?: Has absolutely no familiarity with romance or romantic relations, and actively balks at the thought of calling someone a friend, let alone a significant other. The idea that people could become close to him puts him on edge (especially Servant Archimedes instead of human Archi). If ever given reason to learn romance, he would still be quite reserved and awkward about it, prefer to keep romantic gestures to private arenas.
Ideal physical traits: b...breath in g..? (he has no preference bc he doesnt know enough about himself to think of one)
Ideal personality traits: thoughtful, or at least capable of giving reasons why they do things. not so rational as archimedes, as he needs to have something to balance him. inquisitive and intelligent enough to hold conversation, even if they’re not into engineering. just intelligent enough to talk about something without archi feeling like he’s talking to a child.
Unattractive physical traits: he barely knows. he tends not to find busty women attractive tho. sorry drake.
Unattractive personality traits: overly emotional, impulsive, selfish. while people who can acknowledge and choose to act based on emotion are necessary to balance out archimedes’ overrationality and remind him to acknowledge emotion, an excessive reliance on it or refusal to acknowledge logic frustrates him endlessly. impulsiveness has the same base. people who act dumb for a joke also piss him off.
Ideal date: something very low-key ahah like going for a walk, or making something, or just. hangin out. chill low maintenance dates.
Do they have a type?: insofar as he knows, no. insofar as i know, also no.
Average relationship length: Archimedes has never really had any romantic relationships.
Commitment level: who knows. see above. generally like “its not logical for someone to want to spent long periods of time committed to me, so whatever”
Opinion of public affection: very easily embarrassed by it so he tends not to be a fan. other peoples’ pda tends to get in his way so he’s also annoyed by that. generally the idea that someone else might see him Liking A Person is just ‘no we cant have that we cant have people knowing i have a feeling’.

"The master is dying because of you, now help me repair his circuits or get out of my way."....(Asclepius (God of Greek medicine) has just arrived at my Chaldea. Archimedes indirectly gives strategies to the enemy, things go wrong and Asclepius gets angry.) Iloveyousomuchbtw
honestly id say more likely, master is the inadvertent victim/gets in the way of one of archimedes’ machines, rifp so im goin w tha t,  im glad u like me uvu
Asclepius is correct, objectively -- it is Archimedes’ fault that they’ve all gotten here. He’s not used to a human working alongside him, the differences in planning when a master is nearby rather than half a battlefield away. He can adapt, he just needs to remember--
It’s a moot point now, when the Master’s gotten knocked back, an unfortunate result of getting clipped by the Syracusian method invocation, reddened from heated water and the metallic piston hitting his side when Archimedes dismissed the spell. It is Archimedes’ fault entirely, and now Ascelpius is the best option to undo the damage.
Archimedes steps aside with only a cursory annoyed glance at the doctor. Of course, it’s well-deserved criticism, but that doesn’t mean Archimedes will admit it.
Tumblr media
“Don’t ask me for help. I work with machinery. His circuits aren’t actual wiring, I’m barely above useless with flesh.” He’s a mathematician, not a physical therapist, for goodness’ sake. Circuits can’t be fixed with a soldering gun, and this isn’t the Moon Cell where Master’s hosted on a cyber frame, so Archimedes has no idea what Asclepius wants from him. “If you need tools to do your work, I’ll create them for you.”
He is obligated to do that much, since he did cause this and it would be deeply inconvenient if the Master died here.

“Sing, O muse--” He cuts himself off, waving his hand lazily as if conducting something. “I’m not exactly one for the arts, even if I’ve ended up in a story or two, much less the humanities. So why seek me out, unless you were simply missing a fellow Greek?”

“Ruler, isn’t it? I’ve sometimes wished to be summoned in your class. An existence with the only obligation to maintain balance. My specialty, yet I can’t help but be envious that the Throne never chose me as such.” There’s a reason for that; his idea of balance isn’t exactly optimal for humanity.

it’s such an unexpected turn of fate that when he’s come to realize archimedes is holding his hand, he   JUMPS   —   and it takes near half a minute before he finally curls his fingers around the caster’s own, a large, swelling warmth covering his whole body as a result.   ❝   i bet none of this even affects ya’   …   ❞   but sadly, it does for him, and he refuses to look at archimedes to let him now   HOW   it does.
Alex’s startle is almost enough impetus for Archimedes to retract his hand (partially out of his own, reflexive, alarm, partially out of the assumption that if Alex is surprised then he must not have read the cue properly.) But, if Alex grabs him, Archimedes supposes he can entertain the practice for another moment or two. “...Is it supposed to?” How is it meant to affect him -- while Archimedes may not be used to much in the way of physical contact, it’s theories aren’t entirely alien to him. There’s nothing he’s aware of that’s meant to be particularly affecting about hands.
Tumblr media
“You seemed to be offering an invitation. Is there not a step two?” In short: is he supposed to be doing or expecting something? Or perhaps this is all Alex wanted.

“If you want an inventor father, go talk to Edison.” If not more likely to oblige, he’ll at least distract her. Archimedes is fine being looked up to as an inventor, but why that immediately means father is... incomprehensible. “I don’t want the responsibility of being a father. Too bad.”
The bar is on the floor and he refuses to step over it.

Gently hands Archimedes a #2 Dad mug. Sorry, Archi, but Emialter is #1 Dad.
He looks at the words written on the mug with clear skepticism, then hands the mug back to her. If she won’t take it, it will be balanced on her head (her won problem if it falls and she doesn’t catch it in time.) “I am not anyone’s father, mage, much less your own.”
Tumblr media
Because of course it’s taken literally, why would he expect anything else? He’s not done anything for this girl to warrant a gift anyways (especially one so strange). Nor has he done anything to actively warrant a prank, if that’s what this is (albeit a rather boring one)...? “The joke is wasted on me.” Try again, he missed the punchline (?).
