Good morningggggg I don't wanna get ready for work so I'm here making Post instead, but I have been kinda struggling on how to approach a PPG self-insert 🤔 I don't rly wanna make them a villain cuz I just love the girls so much and no matter how close to OC they may venture, my s/is are still extensions of me and I could never make them hate the girls 🥺 (Also these preschoolers are fucking brutal. Do you SEE what they do to their villains 0-0) So I was thinking I make my s/i a plain ol civilian who works in robotics or programming! So I decided to check out the 2016 Powerpuff Girls reboot for some ungodly reason (jk the reason is I am deadly curious) and yeah. Yeah its really badly written and the art style irks me incredibly so and the girls hardly ever actually fight crime and its so awkward and strange and badly written.........

But mannnn. There are some pretty fuckin good Mojo moments in the episodes I watched

5) Does your f/o have their own song or any singing roles?

While no song per se (not that I've seen, we've only watched to season 4 so far), one thing that is so so awesome abt PPG is that every character has a theme and motif associated with them, and Mojo is no exception!! He has this lil five-note motif thats usually played on a guitar and tbh even before this rewatch I could have hummed it at any time if asked, its so iconic, as much as a bunch of music in this show is 💖💖💖

I guess since the ask mentions it, I thiiiiink he sings like one line in the banned musical episode See Me Feel Me Gnomey, but tbh I watched that at the end of a long night of drinking so I don't remember it too extremely vividly 😅

7) Does your f/o’s color palette mean anything to their character? 

Ohohohoho lets fucking goooo I actually noticed and have been thinking about this recently >:3 💖💖 So. One thing that usually has a factor in drawing me to characters is being able to appreciate their design (when it applies) and good god I LOVE Craig McCracken so much cuz all the designs in PPG fuckin SLAP, and Mojo is no exception 💖💖 I wont go too crazy into it here cuz this ask is JUST asking abt the colors used (and also I'm too tired to get into all that) but let's look at the colors used in his design and have a lil discussion on it uwu (also i have very few screenshots on hand forgive me this is what i got aAUH)

ehehehehehe 💖💖💖 ANYWAY, there is one thing that I'm surprised took me as long as it did to notice, and for anyone who knows abt color theory and the color wheel, I'll give you a second to try to think of what.... ok time's up. What I noticed that I thought was very clever in his design is that they ONLY used the "cool colors" side of the color wheel for his palette!

For those that don't know, red, orange and yellow are "warm" colors and green, blue, and purple are "cool" colors, and I think that its so smart that not only did they use only cool colors but they used ONE shade of each color, instead of different tones of each. I am a huge believer in less being more in design and I have such admiration for GOOD character designs that have an extremely limited palette, and other than anything on the grayscale, Mojo's palette consists of only 4 colors. I also do adore the fact that the one and only spot they used a warm color was the reddish-pink of his eyes, which is genius because red is on the opposite end of the color wheel to green so it complements the green of his skin so nicely and adds to his mutated look, plus it feels symbolic of how quick he is to "see red" when his plans go awry 😅💖💖

Ok last thing cuz this has gone long enough but one thing I rly wanna point out and praise is the use of white in his design! It's practically a universal rule in color design that white=good and dark=evil, so I find the use of so much white on a villain character to be so interesting, but it looks so striking and especially stands out against his black fur and the darker colors of his palette.

1) Show me some concept art!! How different do they look in comparison? 

Ooooh I'll do you one BETTER, here's 3 original pencil test animatics for the Powerpuff Girls back when they were still called the "Whoop-Ass Girls" 😅 Two of these eventually went on to be real episodes, the middle pencil test being a very short, very early version of "Monkey See, Doggy Do", the first episode of the series!! It also has Rob Renzetti, the creator of My Life as a Teenage Robot, doing the voice for Mojo since its just a lil test thing

This is... honestly strange. I am definitely a much much bigger fan of Mojo's design and voice in the finished show (angry lil evil geniuses with voices way too deep for their size my beloved) but its of course so fascinating to see where it all began!! Also very noteworthy that he has the title of "Dr." here. Who gave that chimp a PhD 😂 (side note very funny that the uploader of this has a Cortex profile pic. Can I ever escape 💀)

3) Which medium is your f/o animated in? 2D, 3D? Do you think they’d look better in a different one? 

The show is of course in that lovely old cel-animation 2D (up until they went digital in the last 2 seasons but I like the pre-digital look a bit more), and tbh I want it to stay JUST like that 😭 The only way a 3D style would work for me is if is was extremely stylized, like that newest TMNT movie where you can picture the characters in 2D perfectly.

That being said! I have not yet seen that one CG special they made in 2014 and I actually don't even know if Mojo Jojo's in that or not anyway, so if he is, when I eventually watch that then I'll know how I feel abt him in 3D! :3

4) Which “era” of animation is your f/o from? 

The beautiful cartoon wra of the late 90s, when everything was still 2D cel animated, episodic, and very, VERY zany 💖💖💖💖 Listen I adore cartoons nowadays I will not complain about the current state of story driven series, but there is something so nostalgic and fun about the old format of going back to the status quo every episode 💖 That aside! I adore how the "UPA style" of simple shapes was all over the goddamn place at this point in time, and I'd say Powerpuff Girls is the most iconic example of this style!!

11) What role would your s/i play in your f/o’s arc? 

Hmmmmm well idk abt "arc" cuz this show is as episodic as it can be and not much changes with the status quo, but maaaaybe after catching feels for me, some of Mojo's schemes wouldn't be as completely devastating to Townsville (it's not very original but one example I thought of is making giant mutated versions of my favorite flower and covering the town in them, idk 💖💖💖)

YESSSS And this is something I adore so so so much, I've been wanting to mention it for a while now 0w0 So if we're talking abt little quirks SPECIFICALLY in the animation, one that I absolutely adore is that, about uhhhh.. let's say 80% of the time, Mojo Jojo's cape is dramatically blowing to the side behind him even if there's definitely no possible wind source. It is just never stationary and it rly adds SO much to his presence on-screen, I love that they decided to do that 😭💖😭💖😭💖

9) Do your recognize your f/o’s voice from other productions?

NO AND I TRIED, I actually went on Roger L. Jackson's wikipedia to see what else he was in and learned that he's done ALL the voices on the phone calls in every Scream movie??? INCLUDING RECENT ONES??? I went back and rewatched the start of the first Scream movie (which is an amazing movie btw go watch it) after reading that, and there is not a single moment where I think to myself "oh yeah this is the guy who voices Mojo Jojo" not ONCE. VOICE ACTORS ARE SUCH WIZARDS
